How to get into the 13s?

Again, I know its not the same...BUT with a gen1 DOHC, 4.10s, tune, Kooks headers with 2.5" exhaust, MarkVIII lcas and diff, with 26" drag radials...I only ran a 14.39 with 2.2-2.3 60ft times. Just my .02!

Matt went a 13.82 at 101.49 on motor then a 12.81 @105.86 on a 100 shot.
Which is tiotally consistent with a 100 shot meaning a 100 shot is typically 1 second better.

Ill have Matt chime in and scan his slips if you guys want.

Don't know what to tell you there? It's all in the RIGHT parts and tune too, launching is a HUGE factor, flashing the converter is the WAY TO GO not stalling it, traction is a factor, fuel delivery too, manual vs auto shifting. You have to have 40 psi fuel pressure or better under a load above 4k rpm's, a clean new fuel filter is a must too.
You have to experiment and practice.
MANY MANY variables play here.

Well looks like I'm most of the way there. Have the Xcal and a converter. 410s and a trac lok are here just waiting to go in. To bad the track is over 100 miles away.

I did have a LMS chip,MAF and 4:10's.

Beat me to it!! LOL!! Thanks Matt.

For an accurate list of mods on the 12.81 nos pass here it is.

LMS Maf kit, LMS chip, MSD 8.5 Superconductor wires and 2 step colder plugs,4.10 gears and a posi with drag radials and thats it.

Other then that the car had STOCK exhaust, STOCK trans, STOCK converter...etc.

Do it up man!! Make sure your pump and filter is up to par. You would never believe in a million years how a pump that could be just 10% off will do to your times.

OK THANKS... I just read something that said to leave about 20% below the stall speed, that way it will "flash" past the stall speed.

Ive had the best results with a stock converter by dead idle flashing and with my current 3500 9.5 inch stall it seems to like launching around 1200 rpm's.

You could always call up 'DRILLER' on the board here and talk to him.

He is running mid to low 13's all motor and hasn't touched the long block or intake.

Gears, chip, converter, exhaust, headers..... he has done a bunch but most of the parts on his list are not really go faster parts.

With DR's and 2.2/3 for 60' that suggests that there may be a driver issue. Get the 60' down to 1.8 and you will see a huge improvement. One of the best mod's you can do is practice, practice, practice.

Any suggestions...Im not all sure what to different with an automatic. I dont get any wheel spin and it seems to launch hard enough to slide back the sunroof shade.

Thats the key.....too many variables.
There is no magic bullet...spend money and learn as you go.
Take the advice from those who have done it.
Thats whats funny...the simple answer to getting into the 13s is spend money until your there :p

I just dont understand your overall goal.....is it just to say you have a 13 sec. car... or are you going to bracket race ?

If your going racing it dosent matter what your ET is, all that matters is its the same ET all day long.

I'd like to get into the low 13s on motor but I doubt that will happen any time soon. Realistically mid 13s would keep me content.

The track is 100 miles away so no bracket racing for me. If I make it once this year I'll be happy.

on the juice im only running 1 step colder plugs and they look textbook? lets see some freakin video tree to tree... like i said - its easy to say i ran this i did this but proof is proof

My user name is 14.6@97MPH and I did that in my STOCK 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII at Englistown NJ Raceway Park. I did it during the early spring, so a sea-level track and low temperatures definitely helped.

With only the LMS cat-back exhaust (and a K&N panel filter) I was able to run 14.3. Again at a sea-level track with colder temperatures.

I have a ton of time slips between 14.3 - 14.8. I probably made 100-passes in the car in the 11 1/2 years I owed it.

I'm sure with gears that car would have gone under 14.

Ken

Yeah Matt and I are making it all up I guess? Call him up read the article in MM&FF.

BTW that was with well over 100k on the motor,
With my fresh motor, built tranny and new exaust with no 3rd cat I expect at LEAST a 12.5

LOL, yeah, a lot of the mods just added weight! :D

To be fair, most of my track runs now are 13.7-13.9 at less than optimum tracks with less than desirable conditions. But at a good track on a good day...

I'd love to have a chance to run at Englishtown on a nice spring/autumn morning! :D
