wtf???????? few weeks ago, our navigator started running like it had a weak or dead cylinder, then it fixed itself. little while later it started doing it again, then the sevice engine light came on. pete had autojoke scan it, said #2 misifre, so last night i changed it, didnt fix it. last week the truck had what i thought was a lifter tick, a low oil sound, but that went away too, well i was getting pissed so i pulled the coil cover off the pass side valve cover. if you havent worked on a 5.4 dohc in a navigator do not try it. holy :q:q:q:q what an engineering marvel. so, i got the coil cover off and instantly i see what appears to be 3/4's of a coil boot on top of the coil, wtf? i pull the #4 cylinder coil out and omfg lolololololol this is what was waiting for me inside the hole.

so i went and grabbed a new plug, luckily the plug failed , but the threads didnt rip out of the head, the bottom of the plug was still threaded in. i put a new plug in and new coil and the truck is running way better, but it still has a sputter, i'm thinking i should have checked all 4 coils on that side, i think it might have another dead coil, it does have 218k on it and all the coils were original. what a piece this truck is, i hate the thing.
all this happened after we spent about 260 bucks and allllllllllllllllllllllllll day yesterday chaning the idler arm, both lower ball joints and upper control arms, the whole front end was ready to drop out of it!

AHAHAHAHA...
Like KK always said... the more you beat on em the better they run...

LOL!

You are complaining because you bought a truck that new cost $50k and you paid $3k for it and had an ass load of miles, and then you have to fix a few minor problems??

I was just about to say the same,
Damn, i take that so called pile of crap off your hands for ya.

sounds like a diamond to me.

Ummm.... kinda sounds like the Marks that we all drive... 40k vehicle that we now pay like 2k for?

i had t he same thing happen to my 97 lsc i had diamond fire e3s in and about 4 months later the wife was in des moines when the car acted up, she took it to a service station and the number 5 cylinder was missfiring they pulled cover off and sure enough it had blown plug out of hole and shattered coil pack and spark plug lucky nothing got in hole or stripped it out i ended up changing out all the e3s and put it autolites becuase 4 out of 8 were loose and i tightened them checked them a couple months later AND the same ones were loose again , i think the e3s are great when then were first put in but i would never put them in my Lincoln again !!!!

I love the E3's. They work great. The problem is with the COPs themselves. The need to be changed out along with the plugs. If the COP's don't have a nice tight grip on the top of the plugs. In my last Mark, (Gen II) cylinder 7 blew out like a ballistic missle. The COP was obliterated, and I needed to sleeve the cylinder. My mechanic told me I needed new COPs. So a phone call to Max was placed. Definatel worth replacing when buying these cars used.

KK what you dont understand is the navi is my father in laws, and because i married his daughter, and can fix cars, i have to fix his pile of :q:q:q:q for free, but i told him i was not doing the front end, i was too busy to work for free, i have paying jobs in the shop. i let my buddy jake do it, and told pete he had to pay jake. and chicken that blown plug is an motorcraft, looked original, i cant be sure but it looked it. the number 2 coil is still coming up as a misfire, i changed the coil next to it, the one that broke, so tomorrow i have to turn into gumby again and get back in there and take off the #2 coil and see if its dead, it better fix this thing because all it took was a few hours on this thing and my hands are all cut and ripped up, i can work on marks all day long and not get even a scratch. and for ever said you'll take it off our hands, we'll gladly sell it to you, thats why he wanted it all fixed he wants to sell it.

How much is he looking to get?

Shame he wasn't selling a few months back, I would have bought it instead of using insurance money to fix up the wife's Montero.

Plus, if it's original then it was in there for far, far too long!

<---- Really wishes that truck had been for sale when our Montero got rear-ended! I sooo would have come down and bought it!

IF I may add, what people with cop cars need to do is monitor the cop boots, for condition. This is what causes the misfire, and will eventually lead to coil pack failure. You can buy them individually from any autoparts store. Even comes with a new spring to boot.

never seen a motorcraft blow out, if its original it will have a paint dot on the top of the plug

LOL, not true, i have a whole box of ford parts with paint dots on them :) they were saved from the parts bin at the factory, lol.
paint dots rock, one way to tell wahts been replaced under the hood. I really like it for plugs, coils, and front body panels, that way you know if your getting lied to. Then again my dad fixed engines at romeo ford forever, so every part he has changed on my car has paint dots on it, even my ebc's have paint dots, and every bolt that come out of the car.... and so on, i caught him trying to put a paint dot on my wood grain wheel when i changed it, just can't leave pops alone with lose parts and paint sticks
