Alright so, here is the deal. I have a chance to score a 96 gt (yes I know) for a grand. Now, it's an auto sadly, and has about 125-140k, but I can't remember. I will have to find my own wheels for it, if I want to sell it, but for now my brother has a pair of 99+ gt rims he will loan me. The car is decent, has your hail damage here and there, but other then that' it's pretty much stock, and the stuck on stickers, that are almost in every place on the car, didn't sit to well with the sun. It has a painted drivers fender, as somebody didn't think about how the new paint would shine, over the old, and how to paint the whole inside of the fender. Also, the turn signal lamp, is way more new and clearer then the other side. Interior is in alright shape also. The problem with the car, is the guy said, it will run and idle, but when put into gear, will die. He said he already installed new fuel pump, filter, spark plugs, and egr valve. Also, the check engine light is one for cylinder one being too rich. Also, has a power steering leak somewhere. Now, worst case scenario, buy rack and pinion for 189 or so reman, and try and figure out the stalling issue, let's say 150-200 max on figuring it out, then the cost of some junky used tires and rims. So a possible 700 dollars in fixing her up or less. Would this be worth the flip? I am think I could get at least a grand out of it. What do you guys think? Sorry, no pictures. A good cleanup on the inside and a buffing, should make the car shine. Hell, might even race the GT against and VIII and see what happens. :D I could also always keep it, just in case I need a backup car.
 
Still having the itch for nitrous also. Just torn between what I want to do, try and make profit, or just go ahead and spend some money on the VIII.

I say if you get it at $700- $750 its a good flip
If you can do paint work yourself along with the mechanical.
But if you don't have a spare car its always nice to have one.
 
It's actually not that bad of a car, granted it doesn't have the fine interior of the Lincoln, nor the 4v, it's a decent car. The body is actually in better shape then my Lincoln, and the clear coat isn't peeling at all. Just the stupid residue left from stickers being on the car in the hot son, pretty much makes me kind of iffy about it. Will be going to look at it again tomorrow, with some adhesive remover to try and remove them, and to hear it run and idle hopefully. Plus, the 2v is way more simpler to work on then the 4v, and cheaper, so my mechanical ability is on par, along with body work, as I work at a body shop, as a helper, but, being there over a year, I have learned to paint, prime sand, etc. Just not the body work part. Laser Read Pearl in color, and it would be nice to have a spare car on the side. Don't think I will be venturing to the dark side anytime soon though.
 
If you can get the car for $500-$600 then maybe but at $1k I wouldn't go near it. It's high mileage for a Mustang & too much to fix. Nah, I'd pass. Plus, you can find a Mustang on every corner. It's not like it's rare.
 
I wouldn't go any higher than $600 on it in the condition described. The car just isn't worth much, even with all of its issues fixed.
 
Well, today I am going to go scan it, and see what's wrong with it. I will take a picture of the car while I am there. I myself, do see a profit. Given everybody has a Mustang, everybody wants one. Especially a GT, because they want to "go fast", especially the younger crowd. I see Mustangs all the time here and there on Craigslist, they are in way worst condition and people think they are made of gold, so sell them for a lot more.
 
That car cant read individual lean/rich per cylinder, only the full bank. The stall issue is one of two things. IAC or a cracked plenum. Plenums crack on them quite easily but are available at any parts store for under $200. IAC is cake on that car. Lenses are also dirt cheap, you can get all the nose lenses for under $70 new. I would bet the power steering leak is the Teflon bushing on the pressure line. Very common. You can platidip the car for cheap and on crap paint cars it really makes them look WAY better. I would say for $800-$900 its a good buy. Another $100-$300 in parts (depending if the plenum is cracked) and you have a $2200 car.... well at least in these parts.
 
Well, went to go look at it again, sticker residue comes of easily with adhesive remover, oil looks good, coolant does also. Slow power steering leak, not an immediate loss in fluid. Tried to crank it, but it never wanted to start, it tried, but it just couldn't. It's like it started real quick, then just died, not even enough to idle. Fuel pump primes, getting fuel to the fuel rail. Since it just "quit" running one day, I want to say a bad crank or cam sensor? Who knows, either way without it running, I could not scan for codes. Things are so cheap for this car it's ridiculous, but the 2v will never compare to the 4, only in pricing, well and I guess in aftermarket support, but if you have a cobra, then your fine. All in all, I would like to have a spare car, but wouldn't mind selling it to gain some profit, and put it towards the Mark VIII, high risk, high reward (hopefully).

yep. my mark would kinda jump but never start. let it sit 5 minutes, started right up. needed a crank sensor. this one sounds just dead though.
