I was contemplating selling the Mark VIII and getting a Z28, a Mustang or even a new truck. I came very close a few days ago to trading it in on a new Nissan Frontier King cab 4X4 that was loaded and about 8 grand off sticker. With that in mind I went out yesterday and fixed a few things that had been bugging me for a while on the Mark just in case. As I was putting things back together I started to reflect on all of the issues I have fixed on the car and how I have barely driven it 2,000 miles since I got it last July. I took it to the car wash and after the bath took a ride around town. There were plenty of trucks, Mustangs and ricers, but not a single Mark VIII. In fact, I have only seen 3 other Gen II's since I bought my car, and I really look.
I started to ask if I really wanted to go through all of this effort to get this car right only to let someone else enjoy the hard work I put into it. The more I think about it, the more the answer becomes no. Almost all of the mechanical issues have been taken care of, all that is really left is to take care of some areas of minor rust from being a northern car. Luckily, my wife is really receptive to the idea of me putting a few grand into new paint because even though she has a new car, she likes driving the Mark and misses her old one.
I went with the feeling and ordered some 4.10 gears from MPS in Georgia to replace the ones I never got the last time I tried. I am going to set up an appointment to get an estimate from Excessive Motorsports (http://excmotorsport.com/) to get the gears, T-LOK, driveshaft and fuel pump all done at one time.
I guess it really took a little soul searching and looking at boring transportation devices to realize that I still have a thing for Lincoln's version of the ultimate luxury muscle coupe.
