I just saw there commercial for next weeks show. They build a super truck that loads like a truck and goes like a cop car. Guess what engine they drop in??? From the 1 second clip I sure think it is a.............

a diesel 4 cylinder from a 1983 VW rabbit? ohhhh, the suspense is killing me, ...:shifty:

I saw the commercial and I immediately thought "Is that a gen 1 DOHC?"

Last night they also had a 70 Mark III on there that the lowered and put air suspension on it. I didn't care for the wheels but other than that the car looked sicked.

A couple friends tell me I remind them of Richard. I only wish I had such killer hair/beard. Lol

I'd never buy a car from them. They do their cars up like that "Desert valley auto parts' show that fixed up old cars @ a junkyard that ended up looking like crap/poorly done.

I know it's just a show but come on. They just keep getting worse and worse..

That's a pretty cool show, I like that early 50s Buick they did..I don't like the owner of gas monkey though he seems like a douche who just wants to take the cheap easy way out when the actual builders usually disagree with him..but it is just a show of course so ya never know whats staged and what's not..I saw the preview for the lincoln though..seems like it would be cool, didn't see the wheels they put on it, hopefully they weren't some hideous 20s or something..

i thought i was the only one to see it. i was switching channels and watched them widen the fenders, i was actually going to post it, but those shows are popping up everywhere ripping off the originals this being the newest and the cheeziest

It looks like a gen 1 motor to me. I love that show, but I have a feeling its going to have the affect on car prices like barrett jackson did and guys like me cant afford even remotely cool cars :(

It's a cool show but they do some crappy stuff at times just to move a car to pay the bills. I'm sure a lot is staged for the camera but there's likely a lot of truth behind it as well.

Personally I think the show is a total sham. While Richard Rawlins does have some talent as a TV host, in reality he doesn't know jack about cars.

Come'on, Rawlins thought a vintage track roadster was an old indy car and his buddy Aaron had no clue what it was.

Heck, Aaron can not even measure wheel spacing. Good grief just order the biggest ugliest wheels from Tire Rack then pay a real car guy 6 grand to make the error work - "eye roll". And that is just one episode.

If any one actually believes you can get 25 grand by turning a 64 Galaxie into a "low rider" here is free money http://memphis.craigslist.org/cto/3134396711.html

BTW have you guys seen their promo pic from 2006? It's hilarious, think Zoolander in a thong!

Wow. Thats a bit critical dont you think? It is a TV show you know. Its meant for entertainment only.

Guys its just a show. There are alot of times where I almost change channel because its so wacked. But the saving grace is its still a car show and better then "dancing with stars" or BS the wife wants to watch!;)

Critical? Nah, not really. Just an honest assessment.

But if I do sound critical I believe my critique has merit.

If we just stick with this week's show & the Mark III, I'd start with pointing out that this car was THE car that was pivotal in bring about the radial tire revolution. http://web.archive.org/web/20071226...m/articles/magazine/it/2001/4/2001_4_28.shtml - "In 1968 the top executives of Ford and Michelin met to arrange a groundbreaking event: Ford would launch its 1970 Lincoln Continental Mark III with radial tires as standard equipment, .... The deal was sealed. A leading American car would ride from the factory on radials."

The OEM tire for the Mark III was a Michelin BSW 225-15, which would be the equivalent of a 225/82/15 giving it a 29.5" tire height about a 9.25" section width. That's alot of tire with alot of wheel well & wheel opening to fill. One could have easily installed a 20 inch wheel with enough side wall for a safe & compliant ride. The 245/45/20 is now a very commonly installed OEM tire, it's 29" tall with a 10" section width. With proper backspacing this tire/wheel combination could have easily fit accomplishing the big wheel goal with out having to spend huge money butchering the body to make a poor tire/wheel choice fit after the fact. With this tire/wheel combo rolling the inner fender lip would have been all that would be needed for cautions sake to prevent cutting the front tire while turning when slammed.

Now what really blew me away when they bagged the front of the Mark was when I watched them torch off the upper spring perches by cutting them off & weakening the frame. All safe & professional bag installs I'm familiar with uses an "industry standard" perch adapter of varying lengths that mounts to the bag and bolts to the factory spring perch.

If any modification is needed for the factory upper spring perch, reinforce with plate steel for added strength & safety.

I've been modifying & hotrodding cars for decades. One of my greatest concerns, especially with suspension mods is safety. What I saw definitely raised the safety red flag.

I've never built or sold a hotrod that I felt was unsafe and that did not meet or exceed OEM safety.

My point, while the show may be entertaining it gives professional "hotrodding" a poor image by portraying the industry as a willing to do anything for quick profits.

I'll stick with Top Gear.

yes please.

yes, its just ANOTHER copy tv show which is why the channel changer was invented. the problem is people watch these hackers and think thats how to build a car when its like the other show desert car whatever where they go out to the 'ol junkyard and piece together something that may run, it may come apart on you going down the road and are completely frankensteined especially these guys and the skinny guy with beard with the wrench in his hand who's like 95lbs soaking wet trying to pass himself off as some kind of tough guy, but its tv, as for top gear still the best, but a completely different kind of show. its just a copycat world out there everybody has three or more reality shows on their channels now because some jackwagon tv ceo thinks thats what everyone wants to see.we should make a LVC show thats nothing but screen typing before someone does that.

I was just watching the commercial for Fast and Loud and noticed the Gen 1 engine being installed in the truck. So I shot over to here to post but was beat to the punch obviously :roll eyes:

Show is pretty clueless on the cars and trying to flip em with no reserve auctions :shifty:
