So I start my car for a normal drive to work this morning and half way there it starts misfiring

WTH? I mean I just moved up to a 2nd Gen 98' so I no longer have to worry about plug wires like my old one. The car is at 91k on the clock so the chances of the original plugs being in it are pretty good so I hope I don't have to worry about if someone had put in plugs without anti seizing them?

However with my luck it will be a dead coil or something like that

Anybody out there have plugs wet the bed on em around 100k cause this is pissing me off! Mainly cause I can't do a plug swap as my engine is hot now and I have to be at my work by 7:30am tomorrow so I can't do it with a cold engine till this weekend...

Probably a bad boot or two and they are cheap. Which cylinders are misfiring?

atleast you know it's "not the wires"..lol

and I agree it's probably the coil boots rather than plugs or coils.

Good thing is.. for about 30 bucks you can replace them all...and you dont have to pull the spark plugs to change the boots...and.. now you dont have the "my engine is hot" excuse.

So load up, go get 8 coil boots and put em in.

SO easy a caveman or rippedcamel could do it.

OK now I get to learn the tricks of 2nd Gen Mark fixes :shifty:

Now for the fun part...would Autozone have said boots

Autozone might, I got some at Oreilly's and at Advance Auto Parts
if I remember correctly advance has then for 4 dollars each.

You'll be lucky if its only a boot. Now when you find all that oil in the wells that will suck!!!

Well I just went and scanned it. Got 0303 that came up as cyl num 3 misfire.

I'm off to Autozone to get some boots but just gotta see if I can remember what side and position 3 is on a Mod engine :p

how cold was it. My marks always act funny in the 0 to -20 temp, but then smooth out once it warms up.

Was about 22 out but around 5 or 6 miles into my trip it started with the running ruff deal. Then when I pressed on for the last 2 miles to work it did the flashing cel and when I started it cold to go home it had the miss the entire way. I just kept it low rpm and made it home.

Also Autozone SUX!!!

Yeah it says we have them in stock but it means we have them in one store in NJ...WTF :bash:

I had a similar problem on my Mark, and it was a bad coil. My misfire was so intermittent though that it wouldn't set a code, so I just ordered 8 new coils to be done with it, and haven't had a problem since. Since yours sets the code, what I would do is swap the #3 coil with #4, and the #3 plug with #2, clear the code, and see if the misfire moves. If it goes to 2, its a bad plug. If it goes to 4, its a bad coil. If it stays on 3, it could be the injector sticking or an internal engine problem, but with that low miles that isn't likely.

Anyway the only place that had the plug boots was Pep Boys so I had to go all the way over to Bound Brook almost to get em!

F' Autozone and Advanced!

I used to deal with customers like you all the time when I worked at autozone. Don't worry though because I used to be like that until I realized what went on behind the counter.

rockauto.com has the boots for $3.61 each if four or more is bought but then you have shipping. I also have a 5% discount code. I'm sure you needed these yesterday though and no time to be waiting.

They have PRESTOLITE Part # 128042 boots but only 4 remaining for $4.08 each.

NGK Part # 58908 {#CPBFD002}@ $4.60 each

BOSCH Part # 02500 {Coil On Plug Connector} @ $5.66 each

The 5% off code can be used by anyone on here for anything you want. It must be placed in the blank spot that asks how you heard about them. All you put is the code only and nothing else.

This discount code expires on March 7, 2010

Yeah sorry but I tried twice for some reason to get a job there and was refused by corperate both times even tho the managers wanted me at the 2 stores. I have no record for anything illegal but I did go Bankrupt in 04' so

Anyway both stores online web pages claim that they have them at said store and upon going to Autozone and calling Advanced neither had them. Called Pep Boys 8 in the store right now $5.99 a pop!

At the autozone I worked at we had $110K dollars of inventory missing!!!!! Inventory happened the 3rd day I worked there! Guess what they did about it, pretended to take correct inventory. Management at autozone sucks, not the people who are in the store, the people above the store managers.

Well trust me cause the guy I was dealing with is that stores manager and he wanted me to work there but the word came from above not to take me. Diff store diff manager who originally told me to aply also couldn't get me in. I ain't a dick to the guys behind the counter unless they really don't belong behind it...

No biggie as it is not the job I wanted but any port in a storm was the reasoning I applied...now I'm stuck at a Hyundai parts department :shifty:

Well if you want to come down to Tinton Falls I have I think 16 coil packs we can try out. I know at least one of them has to be good.

Thanks for the offer but it's a hour and 44 minutes from my town so I don't think I want to drive that far the way it's running today.

I got two plug boots last night but it was to dark and cold outside to put the one on. So I'm gonna have them order one coil at work today and I will put it in during lunch. Just sucks that it has to be under the intake tube
