You can remove whatever you'd like.
I've heard the windows and doors weigh a lot, too.
 
I'm also sure all the computers and wiring weigh alot probably ditch all that and really save some weight....not to mention what you have removed so far would about equal the weight of the stock mufflers

I don't understand why someone would wanna remove weight from there mark viii to me this is not the kind of car that you would strip down to save weight to go faster But that's just me....if you wanna strip something down to save weight do us all a favour and buy a 1979-1993 mustang
 
I heard that losing the engine saves a lot of weight. It worked for Fred Flintstone.
 
lol, you can take out the cigarette lighters, the rear seat belts, the molding on the out side of the car, the radio and antenna, cd changer, carpet, ABS unit, Air suspension can be replaced with Springs.

or buy a fox body mustang... there already half the weight of the mk.
 
the front seats weigh too much, pull those for sure, spair tire, airbags, all of the audio, hell if you really need to make it lighter, you could chop the top off.

also if you have the stock chrome wheels, those are heavy as hell, i would get some super lightweight aftermarket wheels and fill them with helium.




i'm with the other guys, why bother to try to slim down a two ton car? no matter how much weight you manage to trim, she is still going to be a heavy girl.
 
Practical things to do: Take out the spare tire, cut off the mufflers and race on a near empty tank of gas. Anything else is just pointless. You'll still lose against most mustangs and you'll just look stupid doing it.

I could go for that comment. Spare tire, stock mufflers and 1/4 to 1/2 tank of gas. I haven't had the experience with losing against a Mustang yet. Well, not a stock one.

BTW how much weight did you save by pulling out all the cardboard and plastic tray? about two pounds? sounds worth it.

how about this, what are your goals? (like why are you removing weight in the first place)
 
I lightened mine up a great deal by finally getting the dead hookers outta the trunk. Was starting to smell anyway... sec, someone's at the door...
 
p/s pump, all abs gear, a/c compressor, door handles/panels, window switches and winshield wipers. Just use some rain x.
 
the most weight you could save is taking the entire car to the crusher, thats what it will be worth doing to once you finish destroying it. come on seriously?? lets gut a mark VIII so it weighs 3500 lbs instead of 3800, it will be so much faster yet looks like a total pile of :q:q:q:q at the same time, i'm going out to the garage to rip everything off my 97!
 
Step 1: Remove the body. The body weighs a LOT.

Step 2: Fabricate an accurate replica of the Mark VIII body using a lightweight material, like fiberglass or lego blocks. The lego blocks have the advantage of allowing you to do on the fly customizations in both design and color. Use your imagination, go wild.
And if you ever got hit in an intersection, it would look like a Skittles commercial.
 
I think the op wanted a Cobra but bought a mark because it was cheaper and doesn't get what a Mark is
 
What are you trying to accomplish? If it's to make your car faster or get better fuel economy, making it lighter would help.

Here's some ideas.
Remove all the sound deadening material, headliner, carpet and door panels. Replace all the glass with plexiglass. Replace the front seats with a set of aluminum framed lawn chairs. Also, get rid of the bumpers but leave the bumper covers on. Get rid of the front air bags and replace the column with a standard non tilt version.

Credit where credit's due. I like his lawnchair idea, with the drinkholders in the armrests and stuff. That would let him tear out both the heavy stock seats AND the center console, saving quite a bit of weight.
Is it possible to wire lawnchairs to the stock seat controls, and would seat memory still work?

Then add a trailor hitch and tow 6000 lbs. Before doing that make sure to fill up the air ride with slime. Dont forget to run super narrow tires that are overinflated.

Fuggin douche nozzel.
 
^ dont forget to add more after 4 months... i hear it helps with ride quality :shifty:
