Picked up a set of mint Halogen housings for my car at the JY today for 18 bux. I hit them with some rubbing compound and decided to throw them on the car to see what I thought... I love my HID housings, but atm the clearcoat I put on them yellowed up a little bit, so they need refinished again, without clear coat. The only thing I like about these is that they look like they go with the car better, if they made clear corner lenses, that wouldnt be the case, anywho...

I'm on the fence... The HID housings are just really old and the plastic isnt perfect, but don't get me wrong, they look mint on the car. Whichever I decide to keep, I will probably sell the other set.

you gotta ditch those hid lenses man. no good. i'll give you $50 just to get them off your car. :shifty: :D

but really, i love the hid lenses. wish i could afford a set for my car. but i do agree about the clear corner lenses. that would be awesome, an look better overall.

when you take aftermarket hid's and put them in the hid housings , then take aftermarket hid's and put them in good halogen housings, the light output in the halgoen housings is 5 times better then the light output from the hid housings. i never understood the hype over the 1st gen hid's i think the light output sucks and they are way over rated. the hid housings cant even come close to what you get with a set of new or restored halogens with hid bulbs inside them. i agree with you dan, halogens look more at home on a gen one, if they made clear markers the hid;s would look much better.

Now that's total BS from a gen 2 owner. all your going to do with HID's in halogen housings is blind oncoming traffic and it's illegal too.

HIDS hands down.

no comparison!

i dont care if halogen lens withs hids give better light, i see great with my hids lens and hid bulbs and in the daytime love the hids. lens look.

the Mark Viii still can pass for modern a car even after 18 years (93) but the halogen lenses look like 12 year old car lenses,HiD lenses actually look modern.

Daytime look of the HID housings does look better, depending on color of the car but mine are new halogen housings and I have never been flashed at one time. Cops around here don't really care about headlights unless they're purple. As long as they have a white or whit/blue look, they could care less. Now, I'm speaking for my state or area I live in. They may be illegal but what catches you is being a stupid ass and aiming them up too high. According to the pic below, mine have a fairly good cut off on the low beams and I see very good at night. The pattern is spread out and not beamed.

LOW BEAMS WITH PRIVACY FENCE UP AHEAD

SAME PIC, SAME DISTANCE BUT WITH HIGH BEAMS ON. DRIVING OUT ON A COUNTRY ROAD, I DON'T MISS ANYTHING.

In both pics, the lights haven't had their final aiming. I did lower the the beam just a little. Like mentioned above, the halogen housings go with the corner lenses better but with a straight on look, I do like the HID housings. I'm happy with my light output and not having to worry about cops pulling me over. The argument about which looks better and which puts out the best light could go on forever.

from a gen 2 owner? little do you know i have owned more gen 1's than you have seen, and have been around the block with mark VIII's probably long before you even had a learners permit. what the hell does me owning a gen 2 have to do with this topic, and since you want to talk legality, your car was not equipped with hid lighting, even if they were made for a mark VIII, they did not come as standard equipment on your car, the only way you will blind someone by putting hid's in a halogen housing is by leaving the low beam refractor out of the housing, which i have never done, there is a reason why the low beam side has it, and the high beam doesnt. i have no smog related items on my car anymore, i dont have factory cats anymore, i have exsessive loud exhaust, i have an extremely loud stereo system, i have majorly illegal tinted windows with an even more illegally tinted windshield, i have police wig wags and police strobe lights in my car, the whole thing is illegal so whats your point about illegal hid's in halogen housings, its 2011 dude, everyone and their mother has illegal hid's in cars that didnt come with them, where i am from, the cops have way more important things to worry about than a light bulb lol.

the hid's look ricey...the oem halogens look much more at home on the car

FYI bro I'm 47 and have owned 3 gen 1's so much for your learners permit theory. And I'm glad your happy with all your illegal activities with your ride. to each his own.

well you dont seem too smart then for 47 BRO, basically saying i dont know anything about your headlights because i own a gen 2 lol. and like i said, your car didnt come from detroit with hid's in it so you arent technically legal either batman.

you still dont get it, i have owned 7 gen 1's in the last 8 years and 5 gen 2's, i have restored and retro fitted over 100 pairs of halogen housings , some for myself and most for customers, a bunch of them who are right here on lvc, so i cant understand why my post is a bs post, you are a dip:q:q:q:q for even saying it.

And by the way they are legal for my car because they are OEM. I checked it out with the Kansas Highway Patrol before I installed them.

NOW THIS STATEMENT I WOULD SAY IS BS LOL. my halogen housings i restore are oem too, no cop in the world is going to know if the bulb inside the housing is factory or illegal jesus christ just shut up already dan its your car, do what you feel is best, and please dont make this guys vagina break out in a heat rash do the legal thing please.
