I’m experiencing a shaky steering wheel on my 1997 Lincoln LSC with 66k on the clock. It’s most pronounced at about 50 mph and as I increase in speed, the issue seems to dissipate. The shake does not feel like an out of balance tire. I don’t feel the shake in the car; the steering wheel just oscillates quickly back and forth. While I was adding more tire sealant to the air bags the other day, I grabbed a hold of each tire in different directions to see if there was any play in the front end components. I did not notice any play. It all seemed to be tight which is to be expected on a car with only 66k miles on the clock. Could a front end that is out of alignment be causing this problem? I notice that the front tires have significant wear on both edges. I attributed the wear to the car being driven with the front end slammed before I bought it. But I guess I should check the alignment.
