For those with 3.73, and 4.10's, what's the best gas mileage you get when you stomp on it? What's your best gas mileage when you don't stomp on it. Also, anyboody with these lower gears, what's the longest distance that you've driven, and what kind of mileage did you get?

3.73's

Getting 16.4 average now with the blower but close to 20 without it. When I stomp on it then its about 2mpg.

Not to high jack this thread but with those two gears (3.73 and 4.10), mpg's aside. What gear would be good for someone who divides there time between the highway and the city. I drive about the same amount of time on both.

My 4.10's are very liveable on the highway. Here is a little more about 3.73's vs. 4.10's:

I'm not sure what it is now with the heads/cams, but before with 4.30s I could drive 2 hours + across the mountains to the track, run all day at the track and drive back and average 19 mpg. On the highway I would get 21-23 depending upon terrain. :)

lol i love what bill said about with the blower 2mpg lmao!!
i have 3:73's in my 97 i average about 16 ish around town back and fourth to work, when i went to the keys a few weekends ago it was right at 23.8 for 300 miles or so at 85 mph with the cruise on. but florida is flat, different road conditions would have made it much different. i also have under drive pulleys too so a stock mark VIII at 85 mph will be turning alot less rpm that me at 85 mph. my car at 85 mph almost sounds like it needs to shift into one more gear!

Another good thing to ask with which gear is tire size too. Anyone using a bigger stall. I miss my 4.10

Last time I was at the strip with the 4.10s and 275/40/17s including the shutdown and return road I averaged 8mpg. City hasn't changed, highway it's down about 3mpg.

Mine was lower than it was, but not bad enough to worry about much. I could still take the car anywhere ;)

1st gens 93-95 always blow the second gens away for mpg, dont ask me why, but i can say it for a fact in all 9 of my mark VIII's. all 3 of my second gens got crap mpg around town, and never as high on the highway as any of my first gens. even my current 93 averages 18 around town, and i dont know on the highway never took it on the highway!

4.10 or 4.30 ? It will be a daily driver but just a dragstrip and grocery getter for the wife. [ shhhhh the red one is in process].

I really don't care about mileage but I wonder. sometimes.

What's with this 3.73 :q:q:q:q. It used to be 4.10 all the way! Oh yeah all motor BTW.

I suppose I could've worded it better, I reset my ave economy in line waiting to make a pass at the track. I went through the line, down the strip and shutdown, back up the return road and back in line, and averaged 8mpg from when I started in line.

Separately, during normal driving, my average city economy is the same as it was before the gears (around 20-21,) and my highway mileage is down by around 3mpg from 28-29 to about 25-26. My normal driving MPG is not the same in the city or highway as it is when I'm making passes at the drag strip. :)

Love my C-head turned 3.07's right now.

Pulling well above 28 with the HEAVY 18' wheels. Ill only have to stop for fuel once on my trip back from colorado.

Eh? If you mean sig, I'll go ahead and change it tomorrow. My avatar's been the same for years... The sig is just a .gif file, is it making the page load slow due to a slow internet connection or is it actually making the computer slow?
