Just ordered a chip from Dennis at Reinhart Automotive. I probably won't have it until the end of the week he said, but it was a pleasure talking to him. Seems like a really nice guy, can't wait to get the chip.

I sent Lonnie at BOC an email last week, but never heard back from him.

expect to take your pcm out, disconnect the battery

remove the brown plug on the back of the pcm
(opposite of the wire harness end)
take out the 4 screws (one on each corner)
take the panel off the side of the pcm(split the case)

clean off any grease that is on the Jport connector (under the plug you removed)

then use the included scotch brite pad to remove the clear laquer from the Jport connector

put the pcm housing back together

install the chip, tape it securely to the pcm housing
reconnect battery
wave good bye to your rear tire tread

be forwarned, that if your car "does something stupid"

it is 8 out of 10 times a problem with a poorly cleaned connector and..
it is 2 out of 10 times a problem with a dirty/bad maf or a weak fuel pump

it wont be a problem with the tune itself...

I appreciate the info on how to install the chip. I was just basically wondering how noticeable the increase in performance will be. The car is very healthy, I don't currently have any driveability problems at the moment. Just anxious to see what it will do. Figured it was important as my first real engine mod, kindof as a foundation for my other mods. Also wanted to get the shift sheduling right for my 3.73s.

i wasnt suggesting that you did.

but the factory has so much "overhead" programmed in that "sometimes" installing a chip will exploit a weak link..."I'm jus sayin"

if you've been running 373's without a tune ( i did that for several years)
your gonna instantly notice the car doesnt upshift as soon as it currently does.

tip in throttle response will be greatly improved
engine braking will be greatly improved
seat of the pants feel will be greatly improved

Sounds Great, can't wait. I read a bunch on the Reinhart topic over on m8.org, that he is extremely quick at getting the chip to you, so i'm pretty excited.

All the topics that talk about Reinhart being a prick and owing me money have been deleted there. He still owes me over $120++ from an order he screwed up, then shorted the refund on, and to top it off then bounced the shorted refund! The only niceness I got out of him was him screaming at me like a 5yr old on the phone for his screw ups... :eyeroll:

Well I had an issue with my tune and he worked tirelessly to fix it. I finally told him that I'm going to take it to him when I go to Daytona next and have him toy with it there. He definitely didn't give me any problems, and was non-stop working on it for me. I was the one that finally said to wait till I come there because I felt bad on how much time he was spending on a car that isn't in front of him.

I think Jamie can attest to how much of a pita my car is.

Honestly I feel he was very attentive to my needs as a consumer. I would buy from him again.

Sorry for this rant about to follow but it needs to be said what he did and how he acted so others can make the choice:

I know he knows these cars decently, but I will not stand for being treated like he did with me for the problems HE created though by anyone.

He was totally unprofessional, and it is not the first time I've read about someone having problems with him, he is not good to deal with (heck, there used to be a website up about his bad dealings, and he's been kicked from a few Marauder sites, lol...)

I would never buy from him again nor recommend him to anyone ever after that. He is not a stand up guy in the least and didn't do the right thing after HE screwed up my order then tried to get out of it.

He sent me stuff that was not what I ordered and it went downhill from there! I sent it back on my own $ without issue and he was fine for a while, but after months of delay I finally asked for a full refund minus the shipping (which is way more than fair for an order he got wrong in the first place, and I paid to ship back!) He then bounced only a partial refund because he didn't have the money and the bounced cheque goes on my credit record! He told me he'd fix that with a letter to my bank which I never saw, and finally another month+ later after telling me he had 'next day' mailed it, sent still only a partial refund. Through-out this (6 months+ and over 100 emails and $40 or so in long distance calls, all of which I still have,) he was belligerent and rude after I asked for my money back. He literally screamed at me on the phone blaming the bank, me and anyone else he could but himself for his mistake... I've seen 5 yr olds that couldn't pull hissy fits off as good as he did!...

It should have been real simple but he made it so dang hard.
It is a good thing he is in a different country after all he put me through for over 6 months+ (even typing this and thinking about it makes my blood boil)...

Again sorry for the rant, but he is not a good person to deal with ultimately no matter how nice he treats you at the start...

Sounds like you need to get yourself down to Florida one of these days and make amends. ;)

No, it sounds like he should be coming up here for the amends, and he should never have gone off the deep end in the first place as it was his mistakes all along.
Sorry, but I still wouldn't waste my time on him now that I know what he is really like...

I was thinking more along the lines of teaching him the 'theory of electricity'. :shifty:

J/K I don't condone violence, really. :D

Sorry, but any tune bought over the net is generic best guess. One thing I've learned in ten years of fiddling with EFI tuning, is every setup is different.

yeah but killing almost 20 degrees of tip in retard isn't generic best guessing
there are several areas, including the transmission that can greatly benefit from even a "mail order cookie cutter t00n".

now are you going to extract ALL the HP you could with a dyno tune?.. obviously no.

but.. you cant simply "write off" mail order tunes.. ESPECIALLY in a mark 8.
there is AZZLOADS to gain, and buttloads of longevity to be had.

fixed

+1 to what XLR said.
A mail order tune, especially from someone that knows the particular vehicle well can be of good benefit. Dyno tuning is always the best way to go, but you still need to find someone that knows the workings and specifics of a particular car/make imho...

And most "dyno tunes" leave alot to be desired in the area of trans functions..IF they even touch the trans functions at all.

thats good info to know but who besides geno its going to touch this areas and put the info in it specially on a chip heck around here aint many people that knows this cars as well as geno in nj so now what .whos the best out there that we can really trust my wallet its burning a hole some people pull one way others pull the other way hell im in the middle boc ? or reinhart ? i would like a chip that will cover those areas specially the trans that reall sucks i keep reading but still not sure my self i do want a chip i want it yesterday so i guess ill leave to the experts.

i got tired of not knowing WHO to go to...as well so i started buying chips.

1k later i still wasnt happy.(three different vendors)

SO i plunked down ONE MORE thousand dollars and got the hardware and software to do it myself

what year car are you workin on?
93-95 use a chip
96-98 can use a flash tuner which is a better solution for various reasons

Granted a OTC tune may "correct" some areas where the OEM either deliberately or not, missed the "ahem" mark.

You seem to contradict yourself from earlier, and prove my point...

Spent years working with Bruce Plecan "Grumpy" with his GN, and with my twin supercharged TPI Malibu using a 7749 ECM and reworked SyTy code.

No way in hell, I would ever get a OTC tune that would even come close to my setup. Been from using UV EEPROMS to flashing changes on the fly using the MSII in the SVO.

I have yet to fiddle with the tune on my Mark.

how do you mean contradict myself?

i bought chips from ALL the known vendors, while each one had their benefits..each left "something" to be desired, in one area or another.

So I put my own destiny into my own hands, and haven't been happier since.

5 years later I still dont regret spending 1K on my tuning solution
