Laser, you don't know misery!

dude, you sig file kills me...

and I'm very glad no one other than yourself was hurt, you are correct.
it could have been far far worse...

Dont sweat being sued, as I can tell you aren't.
They cant squeeze blood out of a turnip.
Worst thing they can do is put a judgement against you...and that wont mean squat unless you win the lottery...then of course you'll have to pay the judgement..but.. I wouldn't sweat it.

count your blessings, hug your son and thank your lucky stars.

Every time I look at your sig now I want to actually hurt someone. This cannot be good.

Nolimit...you a doing everything perfect.
Hiding evidence and telling lies will never work out.
I am sure that's what you teach your son.

It is dam luck that is came out like it did, no one was hurt too bad "just you" :)
When you think about it......wow it could have been far worse.
I am very happy you found a replacement already, and everyone is safe.

I still am having a hard time trying to figure out what happened.
The only reason I would go down that road is to make sure no one else makes the same mistake.

The only thing I can think of is you are right, the fuel injector didn't seat.
That caused a leak that became a vapor.
Gas will light but not explode like that unless its air borne.
Then it was trapped in a confined space.
Spark from the engine lit it off.
Your stumble might have been a bad spark plug wire that was jumping spark, that would light up a vapor, causing the hood to pop off, then putting the fear of god into you.

The lesson I guess is to check your work, just don't close the hood.

Again I hope you don't take this in the wrong way.

Ya, and maybe work outside, if possible - in light of this, I'll be pushing my car outside before I start it again. (have fuel tank off ready for new pump/gasket and fuel lines disconnected etc.)

I'm also curious to know what the exact cause was - whether it was actually the fuel rail badly seated or a bad seal(s) that wouldn't re-seat after being disturbed etc.

thats some crazy s$&%, good thing youre ok

now we know what a black octastar would look like :D

lol, I always wondered too. Guess I could spray some gloss on it and get a better idea.

Looking out in the driveway is killing me. It almost looks like a meteorite came down and just squashed it or something.

Judgement? No, not sweatin that one. As a matter of fact, I wished the insurance person would hurry up and get here. I'm ready to explain what happened. I'll admit that I had some car problems and I changed 4 injectors and was going for a test drive and the damn thing exploded. I mean, what else can I say? Accidents happen and what happened was in no way intentional. Jumping out of a burning car, not knowing what's going to explode next isn't something I wake up everyday wondering when I'm going to do it next. I never want to be in that situation again. I rode in a car yesterday just to get out of the house. I'm not gonna lie, I was scared that it could blow at any time.

It makes you look at life differently, I can say that much.

Every time I look at your sig now I want to actually hurt someone. This cannot be good.

I'll call you if the insurance people try to sue me. :D

I'm not taking it in a bad way and yes, I agree all work should be checked. I checked what I had done, three times. The fuel rail is still bolted down in the same place I put it. I'm guessing that maybe one or two injectors were leaking while it was running roughly and then that gas was filling up in the upper part of the intake and finally it flooded over into the wrong place and caught the spark it needed to cause the explosion. I can set here and wish this and wish that but it's gone.

The main thing that I keep thinking is that I do wish I would have shut the car off after 3 attempted starts and then a rough idle. If I had stopped then, shut it off, none of this would have happened because I would have seen gas and then pushed the car out of the garage until it dried.

When all is said and done, I am going to loosen those bolts on the fuel rail and try to find out what happened because I really want to know. I have a very good idea but I still want to know and it annoys me because if the job had been done correctly, it may have fixed my stalling problem. I swapped out part after part after part and then when I finally swap the one thing that it could have been, it blows up. Just about my luck.

It was 18 degrees outside lol. Me working on a car out in the cold ain't happenin unless I'm stranded. I had it at about 65 to 70 inside the garage.

It was one of the injectors rubber seals that apparently was not seated and it had to of been in the rail. That's my best guess. All seals were good on the injectors that went in. It's this simple..... The car was about to be fixed with those 4 injectors going in because 2 of the 4 I took out didn't look very good but one especially. I put so much thought into that car and what it could have been and someone wanted to show me that there are other things to worry with besides that car. If I do get the 95 and I have the same problem, it will be parked until it is taken and fixed.

I just wonder if my transmission is still good. I really would like to have that out because it was unreal. I think it would still be ok but I would have to open it up and see.

Now what exactly are you doing with the car? Insurance Co. taking it?

I bet the buyback on the car would be dirt cheap, waaayy less than getting a new transmission. I would consider it if I were you. The buyback on my car was only $375.

I could still use some black interior parts...

The car isn't going anywhere because I only had liability on that car and I don't own the house that it burned in. Someone tries to take my car away and we're fighting out in the snow. First time I have seen snow here in years and years but I will get out there and scrap with someone if they try to remove my car. There is no buy back on my car. It's a loss completely except for what I can use in the next black on black that I buy. I will then have three of them and out of the three, I'm sure the running one will look damn good when I get done with it but I have to get it first and now I need another garage to work in lol.

Lol I know what you mean man... I own 6 cars and nobody better try and take em from me.

I am sure the trans is OK.

I have changed injectors before and know getting everything seated can be a PITA.
How did you check?
Did you get the fuel pump running and check for leaks or just check that they were seated by pushing down on them?

I sill can't for the life of me understand how a fuel leak got vaporized to the point of making a bomb.
Blows my mind.
From now on I will check for leaks after working on anything related with the fuel system.

I run a 5 axis cnc grinder that uses high pressure oil that drives it into a mist.
The night shift guy ran a steel arbor into a high speed drill he was making.
This caused a spark which caused a massive explosion.
The machine has a trap door on it in case something like this happens.
The damage from one bang was crazy...it knocked every thing off the wall, all my machine manuals everything, then caught on fire.

The night shift got the fire out, but the rookie on nights won't touch the machine anymore.

It was just a mistake, that's all.
I think he should get back on the horse.
He is scared to death of the thing.

My guess.. he had the garage door open that was allowing fumes to rise and harmlessy exit the garage.

he said this happened AS he was lowering the garage door...

Which leads to my speculation that he HAD a leak, but the fumes were getting evacuated...once he started lowering the door the fumes were trapped..

As the door lowered the fumes got low enough to be ignited from that space heater seen in the picture.

/speculation

Except fuel fumes fall, not rise. Fuel vapor is much heavier than air at almost any temperature. These can even be observed on YouTube vids where people put too much gas on wood piles to burn. They take to long to light it and it spreads out on the grass far from the origin leading to some rather scary (or funny) events.

omfg terry, i pulled a 28 hr shift for work in orlando so i just saw this now. you already know how i feel i cant type it. all i can say is im glad your ok and didnt blow yourself up too, specially with nicholas, he needs his pops! the last thing you said to me wednesday was you were gonna go mess with the injectors and when you signed off i said to myself why is he doing that? cant do nothing now but clean up and find a replacement! this is horrible man, totally horrible, i wish i had a car i could hook you up with. just clean up, take it slow and dont jump into the first thing you come across. wow man! you cheated death for sure.

No one has said this yet, but don't tell anyone else that you think you put injectors in wrong and it started the fire. You do not want the landlords insurance to hold you responsible for the damage that was caused by the car exploding.

Hey Terry you oughta powdercoat those Octostars in black chrome... I bet they'd look killer, with new chrome caps... or sell em to me and I'll do it, lol

I didn't even see this post.. Holy Smokes man glad your ok from that.. that makes me not even want to go out and look at my car right now... mine just sits out in the Garage, but I always keep the Battery disconnected when i don't drive it at all.. I am def going to def make sure my cruise control thing is checked out in the spring even thought you were not sure what it was.. Damn.. those pics were scary.. Well good luck with the New Car that you get.. later..

I hope I am WRONG, but I always expect the worst and hope for the best. I had a 15 year old girl hit me in 2000 causing a dislocated shoulder and rehab. My insurance sued and won a judgment against the owner of the car (insurance would not pay for unregistered driver not on policy). Last I heard her wages were garnished to the tune of $26,000. If the insurance company can find someone to blame, they always will. Like I said I hope I am wrong, he has been through enough the past few days.

Again, what I have said here was written by me in detail to the fire investigator. There is nothing that can be taken from me. Unless they can take my son, they will not get anything out of me. My statement was written out and told exactly what I done and how everything happened. It was an accident and insurance = accidents

There is nothing at all that they can do to me or take away from me. I lost my car, that was a lesson enough for me. That came out of my pocket. The home repairs isn't coming out of their pockets. When they can show me a law that states that I'm not allowed to work on my own car no matter what the work might be, then I'm not even worried about it, even if they could.

Yeah, you were the last one I talked to before it all happened. I started to give you a call and let you know but I didn't know if you were asleep or not. It happened at 11:23 my time. I would kinda like to have a 95 LSC black on black so if you see one within a decent range (price and drive), let me know and I'll check it out. I'm not worried about headlights and the grille shape. I'll send you the headlights I have from the 93 to be redone and I'll buy a new grille. My interior in the 94 is still good except for the dash and door panels but I have those in the attic from the 93 but you get the idea. I don't want a 96 at all. 95 this time is what I want.

Man sorry to hear about yur car. Like everyone else is sayin glad that u and yur son are ok. I have that recall on my car to but I just been putting I off. After seeing this I'm gonna make an appointment as soon as I get it ot of the garage in the spring.

Too bad you dont want a 96 lsc, there was a black on black with 86xxx miles posted here for 800.00 obo that needs a new battery and Alt, but the paint is shot.

terry want my white 95? if you want to talk about it, call me i'm serious i dont know what kind of money you have but i'll give you a hell of a deal, you could use your black interior in it, except the dash, but maybe you can two tone the interior? just a thought. i'm looking at another black on black gen 2 and i want it bad, my wife wants my gray 93 bad, she told me to sell hers and buy a gen 2.

Link me please. $800 for something like that and I would consider it.

Jamie, I still have a mint dash out back under cover in the 93. Thing is, I don't know what kind of money you're wanting for the white one. The deal up above sounds good for $800 and the other 95 LSC that I found black on black is $1000 and 4 to 5 hours away fro my house.
