Ok, one at a time, guys so I don't drive u crazy & yes, I did my "search" first but didn't find a therad directly related to this.

  • My "DOOR AJAR" message started popping up on my dash about a week ago, I'd open the passenger door, close it & it would be fine, then 2 days later, AGAIN, but wait... progressively it worstened, now it displays "DOOR AJAR" 95% of the time I drive the car. When I slam the door, it MAY go away for 20-30, maybe 50 seconds then VOILA, "DOOR AJAR". I checked the button that turns the interior lights on/off & it's perfectly fine. What device on the door feeds off to the info center?

  • As of about 3 weeks ago, this also started happening but not too frequent, i'm driving along the highway & all of a sudden my locks start locking themselves... 1,2,3 times then it stops. Then 15 minutes later it'll start again, 3,4,5 times. I purposely unlock the car while driving & it locks it again, sometimes it's done it 10 consecutive times where I'm like; "WTF" Then it'll go for days without an issue, then all of a sudden it starts again. For example, it had not done it in over 4 days, it did it yesterday twice yet it hasn't done it again all day today.

  • My last line item, my factory alarm. If I lock the car via the code panel outside or via the lock button inside, sometime after I have left & gone away from teh car, teh anti-theft alarm will start honking the horn. This must've been an ongoing issue with the previous owner because I found both horns disconnected when I purchased the car. This has been happening since I bought the car however I learned in the last 2 weeks or so, simply push the lock down manualy & the car never says a word, lol, what can this issue be?

Ok, I don't believe in Casper guys so don't come with the haunted stories. I know I have electrical issues but where do I begin?

Open up the glove box all the way so it drops down. Then look to the right hand side. There is a white module that is mounted horizontally. It has 2 white connectors plugged into it that are facing you. Unplug those two connectors and you're done. That's what I did to mine and keep your horns plugged in. The panic alarm will still work as it should but no more false alarms.

It's a classic fomoco problem. Spray a little WD-40 on the door latch and then open and close it a few times. It should fix all of those problems. It happened to me in a few of my cars. lol. I know it sounds funny that a little loosening up of the joints can fix all those problems, but it does most of the time.:D

Sunds simple... a little too simple. I'll be trying this tomorrow afternoon. Thanks.

I heard something about this on another forum but it wasnt clear. I'm definately going to do this. Thanks.

IMHO.. I would try the WD-40 trick first be liberal with it and after you do so I sugest using a lithium grease on the lock after... WD-40 will clean the contacts and then it will evaporate shortly after but the lithium will stay for a while... its white and messy but spray it in the locks and the door catch (make sure window is up)

The factory alarm is not much but its something you dont want to disable..
After that, check height of the Hood pin switch its on Passenger side of hood half way from bumper to windsheild... Found mine was dirty and cause a complete day of headaches at work..

Hope this helps..

Bill

 SWEET! Sounds like I have homework to do however it'll have to wait. I decided I'm dropping off the car today for a custom upholstered interior. I will post pics once completed. I should have the car back by Saturday afternoon or Monday morning. Thanks for the pointers guys.

Ok, I've attached some pics, I don't want to make things worst. Is this it there on the right?

This hasn't worked at all, tired of spraying WD-40 + lubricant, fiddled with the latch, open/closed the door over 30 times by now, lol... nothing. It's driving me up the wall. I can't access anything else in the info center because it thinks the darn door is open. Is there anyway to disconnect this door from the info center?

You could try removing and cleaning the door ajar switches - grime stops the small pin from springing back to 'off' when door is closed.

I just unplugged mine and don't get the message anymore. Not sure if that has any adverse affects on the OEM alarm system though?

What I'm telling you isn't going to stop the "door ajar" message, it will only stop the false alarms and stop annoying your neighbors. I have 2 pics here for you. It is on the far right hand side, not over at the blower motor.

OK, here is your problem. Your magnetic door light switch is old and sticking. Spray some WD-40 or PB Blast in the lock mechanism where it latches. Spray the hell out of it and open/close the door a few times.
You have your car set to automatically lock the doors when moving so when that switch starts to get its issue the car thinks the door was open and closed so it locks itself again. Same thing withthe alarm, switch does its thing and the car thinks someone opened that door and it sets the alarm off.
If the WD40 trick dont work then you need to get another switch cause if you just dissconect it you wont get a dome light when that door opens and it wont trigger the alarm if someone goes in through that door.

BTW you can turn off that auto lock feature. I forget if its "vehicle settings" or "drivers settings" but one of those menus have the ability to toggle the "Auto Lock" feature off and the car will stop locking its doors when you put it in gear.

Mine must have been deactivated before I bought the car because it has never locked the doors when put in gear. When I got in my dads 93 (before he wrecked it), I put in reverse and his doors locked. Made me wonder why his done this and my 94 doesn't. How do I activate it on mine?

The interior lights come on when a door is opened just fine without the door ajar switches - they are controlled by the switches at the other end, near the fenders.

Then the 1st gen is different from the second in that respect. The 2nd gen does not have door pin switches, I just double checked. Seems kinda dumb that Ford would make two switches for the car to know its door was open.

In any case the rest of my advise was sound, no?

Yeah, I wondered myself why Ford didn't just use those pins for both functions. I did consider wiring the door ajar to those pins but decided I couldn't be bothered.

I'm sure the rest of your advice is fine, although I'd try cleaning up those switches, rather than replace them. Mine are now clean and working fine, I just opted to not reinstall them.

Guys, as for the DOOR AJAR message? It's gone, it's happened slowly but it's been a good 3 days since it's stopped showing up. I guess it's happened through the course of openning/closing of the door. As for the locks? They're still giving me a headache. They are constantly locking themselfs, sometimes it will do it 20+ times in one minute. I can't find the anti-theft system box. It's no where around in my golve compartment. Are the 93's diferrent?

What I am showing you in that pic is still mounted in the 93 that is setting out here in the garage. Unless someone else took the entire module out, it should be in there. If not, you should see those two white plugs.

Try doing this while the car is off.

to deactivate the autolock system:

1. enter your 5 digit code

2. within 5 secs press and hold 7/8.

3. within 5 more secs press and release 3/4

4. release 7/8

do the same above to reactivate

Do u know my 5 digit code? lol... I have no idea dude! I wish I knew!

Same issue i have solved the Door ajar. That was easy but what i have is a problem with Phantom door locks. Mine unlock over and over and over. sometimes i can't lock the car lol. I pulled the door panel and resealed the keypad. one thing i have noticd is it is a moister or humidity related. such as after i wash the car or on humid or foggy days 98lsc IcedPheonix has the Same issue

On my 98 I spray the crap out of that cracker sized switch.... that has the roller on it.....that is located on the front of the door.......the crap that drains out of the switch when I do this looks like 50000 mile motor oil.
