lincoln's running rather warm

so i put the underdrive pulley set had to take the radiator hose off topped it back off and now it's running rather warm, is this normal what should id do

are you SURE all the air is burped out through the crossover cap?

Well, did you follow unity's advice and bleed the system fully? Have you bled, re-bled, drove around and bled some more? Kept coolant at correct level? Do that before coming to any conclusions.

I've never used an under drive set, but i would think there would be a slight increase in temps while idling, but normal once driving.

i think most just do the crank pulley just to avoid cooling and charging system concerns

Is there still air coming out, or is it ok now? All air needs to be gone and system topped up to correct level. All hose clamps tight? Expansion tank ok? Cap tight? Crossover cap tight? No leaks anywhere? Fans coming on ok? Hows the ambient temp - normal or higher than usual? Hot air coming through vents when set to hot? Oil filter adapter gasket ok? No leaks? Does Engine oil look ok? (not milky or super thin) and is it at correct level?

Thats cool - just keep a close eye on the temps on way there - under no circumstances let the car over heat!

Over heating can damage the engine - extent of damage depends on how badly over heated!

Simple answer: Don't let it happen - if in doubt, don't drive any long distance until you fix it. Change your own oil and filter if need be.

keep burping the car, and let it cool down atleast 4 hours before opening the crossover and topping off the coolant.
rinse..lather repeat.

I use a large funnel that fits into the Xtube, the funnel holds about a quart..
I keep the funnel about 3/4 full and that creates an expansion tank above the xtube, running the car at idle will remove alot of air.. as it will go up into the expansion area rather than circulating back thru the system.

using the above techique I usually can get all the air out of a cold motor in about 30 45 minutes.

pretty much. I didn't burp it properly and almost lost my engine. It ruined my mobil 1 synthetic with under 500 miles, was a little thicker than water when it came out.

Caution a 20% under drive will increase your temp by about 10 to 15 degrees, at idle, now if you have a Gen2 with 195 degree thermostat well you get the idea. Replace your thermostat with a 160 and she will stay cool as can be.

That's what I do.

Only caveat is with my electric pump I have to cycle it on and off to allow air to work itself out. The electric water pump is really moving the water.

Make sure when you burp the system the heater is on in the cabin full blast max heat. Make certain you have hot air blowing as that is a sign coolant is moving through the heater coil - a favorite place for trapped air.

the guy at NAPA said to put Royal Purple i think it's called "ice cold" or somthing like that. it seemed to keep the temp steady. i'll definatley run the heater thanks for the help
