WTHeck: Do you really need OEM COILS?

I had a miss about 2 months ago and replaced 2 coils with the cheap 43$ coils you can buy from oreilly. Then just last week I replaced 3 more coils because I had another miss. After toning out the coils I found 3 that toned out bad so I figured I'd replace all of them. They ran out of 43$ coils so I had to buy 2 that were the 50$.

Then 2 days ago I started getting a battery light in the dash coming on intermittently while I am driving. I had Orielly test out the battery and the alternator and they say the battery is good ( which isn't a surprise since it's 8 months old ) and the alternator is good as it's putting out 51 amps. My connectors are fairly new and everything is tight.

I"m wondering if it's the coils I put in there. The car is running a bit rough. Not exactly smooth... and the gas millage went down so I'm thinking either I grabbed a bad coil ( I did tone them out before putting them on and they toned out well ) or these coils are not working on this car.

Personally, I would go back with OEM when it comes to coils. A $43 coil will be having you replacing them quite often. On something like that, you need to go back with the real deal. Plugs, I would go with Autolite 764's gapped at .054

Not sure if that's your problem anyway. Kinda rare for coils to be going out.

I found some on ebay about 6 months ago for $18 each, shipped. They have a few thousand supercharged miles on them and still work great. The ad said OEM replacement but other then that there was no mention of brand name.

I am happy with them.

I bought a set of OEM take offs from a Cobra for $17.50 each. I got them from 95sc on the Corral and he has more sets. They are cheaper if you are in the States as I had to pay extra for them for the shipping. Look him up in the Modular motors parts section. These are Ford originals and brand new!!

Can't beat that price. I would have jumped on them too just to have extras.

Yep, I bought 2 sets from him and I'm super happy with them.

My friend who has a 97 LSC has had no problems so far with Autozone Duralast COPs, 2yrs and about 35k miles.
