Day 2 driving and it was bouncing off redline if I didn't screw with throttle up upshifts and down shifts. Asked a few mechanics what they thought and they weren't understanding off hand.

Leave this morning and same old wind up then shift. Message center says low on fuel and oil. Go to Autozone to get some Mobil1. Put it in and as I pull out of the lot it shifts normal

Huh, so drive up the road and do some traffic driving and passing. All is now normal and fine shifting :shifty:

I ask has anyone ever had a Mark go screwy from being 1 quart low

The engine oil was low?
Yeah the low oil light came on yesterday at work but I park my car backed up an incline. So the oil is forward in the pan and tricks the sensor somewhat before it is real low.

No. It was pure coincidence.
I really wish to think that but dead serious trans was doing everything it could to redline my engine when I left my house this morning. Go to Azone to get oil and as soon as I leave the lot it is shifting like nothing ever happened

Of course my lawn mower, weedwacker and cell phone also broke in the 2 days my trans was acting up. Fell like someone have put a curse on me or something :shifty:

Do you not check your oil before start up at least once a week or every two weeks? Maybe it's just habit for me but I doubt very seriously that your engine oil had anything to do with your transmission acting funny. There was no mention of checking the trans fluid level...

you shut it off and restarted it. that reset something. i don't know what. check for stored codes in your computer. no, i don't care if you didn't have a CEL. check anyway.

sounds like an intermittent electrical issue. mlps or vss or internal solenoid or tps or something being screwy and messing with line pressures and shift points.

Checked the trans as soon as it was acting up. Mentioned it in the other thread. Check the oil when it says oil level low. Change it every 10k and normally have to add 3 quarts over that length of miles.

However how coincidental is it that the trans was acting so strange and only thing wrong was engine oil is low  Add quart in engine and trans returns to normal :steering:slam

Sometimes things happen that just can't be explained but like Chris mentioned, I too believe you might have a failing solenoid or MLPS and it could be heat related and decides to work normally when a certain temp is reached or it could be "bump" related. The slam of the door or the slam of the hood, etc could have made whatever is failing, work again. Like he said, check for codes, even though you have had no CEL. I do agree, it is weird that the trans decided to work just fine after putting oil in but it's just one of those things that can't be explained.

Here is a shot in the dark for you man. Is it possible that there is oil contaminating the MLPS/VSS or electrical harnesses on the transmission?? I would take a looksie.

Also, Amsoil or not, I would change your oil a lot more often than every 10K miles.

Well now that I'm gonna do a shift improver while I do a ATF/Filter change I'll be checking it all out. Unfortunately it's pouring out now so it gonna have to wait.

yea even with the best synthetic 10,000 mi ias a long stretch. 5,000 with synthetic 6 tops especially if you drive hard and losing 3 qts? i got harassed on the board for bad maintennance being 2 qts low, and that was after i picked it up from the mechanic who i thought would have checked everything before i left, come to think of it it was tranny fluid i was low and after checking oil was too, but even losing 3 qts would raise an eyebrow, now you say its pouring out, where?

And you said it had low fuel? Cars tend to run weird when they run low on run fluid

Did a " Check Trans - mission" message appear on your message enter display? I recently had an issue with my trans on a day it was pouring. Maybe my engine oil fluid needs topping off. Still trying to figure out what needs to be checked.

3 quarts over the 10k of time, not all at once. My mark gets 3/4 of a quart low and the low oil message pops up. As for running the oil that length of time it still is opaque when i drain it. Yes it is dark and needs to be changed but it's not like Dyno Oil at 5k. Heck Mobil1 has oil they claim to be 15k before changes now! Mobil1 Extended Performance

I'm in NJ and it has been thunderstorm on and off for days.

No other low sept for Oil. My commute to work is 450 miles a week and then any around town stuff puts me way over 500 miles a week I'm putting on my Mark. So I wind up filling it 2 times a week pretty much but luckily I was able to get 93 at $3.67 this week and that wasn't even a cash deal :D

I get Low Fuel 2 times a week and have never had issues like it has given me with the trans

I had a strange shifting problem 2 years ago with my 93. tach would jump up then drop back to normal. Changed my MLPS hasn't happened since. Watching your video it looked very similar.

Gonna go get a MLPS as it seems that it may be the solution at this point. Of course being Sunday here in NJ no dealership parts departments are open and Autozone says it's a 2 day order :(

I had a similar issue in my 93, right before the fuel pump failed
