Okay. I took the '97 LSC to Advance Awful Parts to check the codes for my CEL. Found out that it was PRNDL range sensor malfunction. It's intermittent. I assume there is a sensor on the shifter that tells the computer what gear it's in that needs adjustment or replacement? Anyway, after I checked the codes, I cleared that code. No problems until I got home. I went back out to move the car, and when I started it up, I got this weird beeping that was not the regular door chime. The door chime was beeping and this other beeping sound was on top of that. And it kept beeping for several seconds after the door chime stopped. And my wife drove the car later and said the beeping started back up while she was driving down the road. Does anyone know what this is? And if so, what's causing it and how do I turn it off?

Could be your drivers side air bag, seems like they beep when the module or sensor goes bad.

Where is the module located? And wouldn't that have come up on the diagnostic? I have noticed that the air bag warning light blinks once in a while. I figured it was probably a short or something. But that beep just started. And it is irritating as heck. Still, no air bag codes though.

if your airbag light blinks once in a while thats your problem. the beep you are hearing is usually from a few things, could be a faulty grounded crash sensor in the front of the car, could be a faulty air bag module, its the blue one that is mounted to t a steel bracket behind your stereo, or the clock spring could be bad, broken wire to it, it can be a number of things, but the beep you are hearing, is SRS related, something is wrong with the safety restraint system and thats why you hear that beep, i know exactly which one you speak of!

supposedly the airbag module will beep if the airbag bulb is removed or burnt out, does the light come on when you first start the car for a second?

Aw crap. I pulled out that bulb because I got tired of it blinking. Dammit. I just went and put the bulb back in but the beeping continues. If that's the problem, shouldn't putting it back stop the beeping?

OMFG! that is a perfect example of why some people shouldn't be aloud to buy tools. i like how how made an informative youtube vid showing how much of a hack he is and then after he gets the cluster out instead of just pulling the bulb he ruins the cluster by cutting the strips that go to the light. and plugs it all in and hes all proud "look its all fixed all the lights are out" lolololol what a HACK

It's blinking because there's a problem, removing the "dummy light" doesn't fix the problem

Don't be this guy

:DPretty funny. I know there's a problem of some kind. The idiot light blinking was getting annoying so I decided to pull it out until I could fix whatever was wrong. However, no SRS codes came up when I checked it. So how does one determine exactly what's making the SRS light blink? And I put the light back in but it's still beeping. That's more irritating than the blinky light. How do I turn off that incessant, infuriating beeping? Do I need to disconnect the battery for a few minutes? Because no SRS codes came up, I assumed the light was probably shorting or something. So now I have a blinky light and that stupid beeping.

Thaywood, take your battery out, put in another battery. I think your battery is riding on reserve capacity and your alternator is on the verge of going bad. Either way, you have low voltage and when you get your voltage up to where it should be, the beeping will stop and so will the flashing light. Everyone can tell me how stupid this sounds when you have done this and come back saying it worked. Get you a 850/1000 battery and have the alternator checked. That's where your problem is.

Or

Have the alternator checked and if it's found to be bad, put a good charge on your current battery before letting the alternator take over. You know all this already.

So how does one determine exactly what's making the SRS light blink?

Count the blinks to translate to a code number, then look up the code. For instance, mine used to blink 3 times, pause, then blink 5 - that translated to a code 35 which was (supposedly) something to do with my passenger side air bag/it's connection.

List of codes and what they mean: http://tccoa.com/articles/misc/srs.html

He responded to you on there - sounds like he's a real stand up kinda' guy!

When the bulb is out the car will beep 5 times when started at random times going down the road. As said, the code will tell you where the airbag fault is. It will either be a bad clockspring or a bad ground under the drivers seat as these are the most common problems. Mine gave code 32 and I replaced the clockspring.

HAHAHA THAT :q:q:q:qING VIDEO IS GREAT!!!! i think that guy used to work for toyota, i think he designed there accelerator pedals!!! LMFAO

That's exactly what it's doing. And the bulb isn't flashing now so it must have gone out when I pulled it. I'll get a new bulb and replace it and see how often it flashes. That's what I get for fcuking with stuff without proper information. Well. Live and learn.:D

Wow. I hope that's not what it is. I'm going to try replacing the bulb first and if that doesn't work, I'll try the battery.

Thanks for all the help!

You will see that the low voltage is making it beep. I bet the light will flash again if the battery gets low again. I think the alternator is giving out. I don't think it's a clockspring. Personally, I would rather do an alternator and charge a battery than replace a clockspring. Is it 5 beep intervals for a total of 25 beeps? IF the light does flash again, look to see if your battery light is fading on. Also, turn everything on in the car. Max AC, stereo, push in the cigarette lighter, roll both windows up and down while the doors are open and turn the headlights on bright and wash your windshield. :D See if the battery light comes on. Seriously, I don't think it's the bulb. It's flashing Thaywood. The battery is low. If I'm wrong on this, I'm banning myself. :p

Sorry I disagree, I don't think it has anything to do with his alternator, especially since he stated that he pulled the bulb out which started the beeping. I had the exact same problem when I first got my Gen II. If his airbag light was flashing before, more than likely the clockspring is bad. He would be having other gremlins and he did not report any if the alternator or battery were going out. The clockspring on a Gen II is not that difficult to replace, you just have to be careful. I took my column out of the car when I replaced mine to make it easier. OP: Get the bulb back in and count the flashes for the code and let us know what it is.

(This was from his very first post) No problems until I got home. I went back out to move the car, and when I started it up, I got this weird beeping that was not the regular door chime. I'm only assuming here but I think he removed the bulb after the blinking and beeping started because both were annoying.

I just found a thread from 3 years ago and things are looking the same here too. I even found you in this very same thread lol. It could be the clockspring but I still feel like it's his reman alternator from AZ (that I think he has) and it's starting to go bad.

Actually, I removed the bulb right after I did the diagnostic but before I went back outside to move the car. I should have put 2 and 2 together then. But I was irritated with the blinking air bag light and then with the beeping. My wife told me that it beeped all the way to work this morning. Hopefully I can get a new bulb tomorrow morning and that will stop it. Some day I'll learn to ask questions before I do crazy stuff without thinking about it first.

Aaaaaaghhh! I just called three different Ford stealerships and none of them show a bulb for the message center display in their parts lists! That's crazy! I've never seen a bulb like this at Advance Awful Parts or any other parts store for that matter. Has anyone else had to replace one of these bulbs? And if so, where did you get it?
