I need someone in the Tampa area to help me (by doing most of the work ;) ) to do both motor mounts and the tranny mount. I'd also like to do the oil pan while we're in there doing the engine mounts. I've got $200 bucks I'll give to whomever can get this done the right way. Any takers?

you are about a 24hr straight drive from me and I dont have the cross support to hold up the motor sorry

he has, and needs it done sooner than i could do it, i am so booked with crap to do that i cant even think of doing a job like that right now.

Hire a few workers for minimum wage to help you out;)

Gotta be a home depot round there somewhere.... lol... You bring it to Texas and I'll do it

I'm seeing 3.8hrs book to do the oil pan, if that's right a shop would probably do everything for that $500... But personally I wouldn't wanna do it for much less than that either.

You guys make it seem so hard, yet months ago when I asked about how to do it you guys insinuated that it was really easy and I should be able to do it myself. I'm confused on how it goes from "It's not hard you can do it yourself" to "I wouldn't touch it for less than $500"?

I did mine, it wasn't too bad, replaced the Kmember and motor mounts....that's a 200-250.00 job.
Replacing the oil pan gasket drives the cost up quickly.

Doing it to someone elses car...yea.. 500.00 is closer to a real estimate.

Call a shop and get a real estimate then come back here and see that 500.00 IS A DEAL.

I'd guess they'd charge 500.00 to do JUST the oil pan.

You guys make it seem so hard,

it's not hard, it's time consuming.
Time=dollars....

Obviously it's not worth your time to do it, so you'll have to pay for someone elses time.

HOW much is an hour of YOUR labor worth?

He may just not feel confident enough to tackle the job solo, but I'll let him answer for that.

Around here, mechanics dont work for 25.00 an hour.
TRIPLE that figure and your in the ball park.

I quoted him a discounted rate, if he bought one of my bushings kits, now he's having fun.

I think mounts and a pan are probably an 8-10 hr. job, depending upon the condition of the car. I'd probably do it for around $400, but he's not local to me, so it really doesn't matter.

And as I said in my pm, I meant no disrespect.

If it was interpreted that way, then I sincerely apologize.

I view ripped's request as paying for assistance (I could be wrong) in order to get the job done correctly, not soliciting for a mechanic. Which is why the discussion devolving into mechanics rates seems silly to me.

My mechanic would have gotten 1500 for my suspension work, and that's with me paying for the parts. I'm sure we all understand that shops have overhead that a shade tree guy does not.

It's not that it's not worth my time to do it. My worry is a few things...

1. When my car was on jackstands last time the jackstand sunk 1 1/2" into the pavement!!! Good freaking thing I wasn't under it! So I guess the parking lot at my house is not sufficient to support jackstands. I've never seen anything like that happen btw.

2. I know how to do general things. I've changed my brakes did a valve cover gasket (well the easier passenger side ;) ) but I'm not exactly great at this. I figured I see many people on here that offer to help other mark owners when their ride is down on it's luck and usually ask for beer or food. I was trying to offer a decent amount of cash because I feel it's not exactly a job to sneeze at.

3. I do plan on helping whoever helps me. I just want them to do more of it because I'm very unsure of playing with certain car parts especially since my son is transported in this car.

4. If I screw up being without a car isn't an option. So I wanted to find someone that knew what they were doing.

I'd also like to mention I was told you have to drop the k member somewhat to get the motor mounts done. I was told the same for the oil pan. So if I need to drop the k memeber anyway to do the mounts why wouldn't I fix the leaking oil pan gasket?

Exactly!

That's right on the money too.

There's an old joke....

Labor Rates:

25/hr.

50/hr. (if you want to watch)

75/hr. (if you want to help)

Good idea to change the pan gasket while you're under there, I'd change the oil filter housing gasket as well.

And, I also agree, that it's a job better left to someone with the right tools, equipment, and experience.

Is the oil filter housing gasket easy to change? How much more labor is involved in that?
