Damn there are more things wrong with this Mark. The oil pan is leaking and until I can afford to get it fixed, what is a safe brand of oil leak stop that maybe used?

None. I really don't trust any type of stop leak stuff. Is it just the gasket?

My pan's rusty busty but hasn't started leaking yet at 140k.

I wouldn't use any osl though.

yeah. i agree.

oil pan gasket or pan replacement isn't to terrible expensive, its just time consuming because the k member is in the way. labor charge would be high.

Yes gasket, but I'm told it is a liquid tacky gasket goo material, so the engine will have to be pulled because of the K member, not a do it your self job and probably going to cost $1,000?

engine does NOT have to be pulled.
support the engine from the top. SECURELY. not just an engine hoist. unbolt and lower k member. remove oil pan. replace gasket.
i don't know if the k member has to come all the way out or not. mine was all the way out. had to unbolt more things like the steering rack and lower control arms and such.

installation is reverse of removal.

Dont use a stop leak. The best stop leak is a new gasket.

All those "stop-leaks" are BS! They are so much BS that they should be advertised by the "Sham-Wow" guy! I know it sucks & trust me, I know a couple guys that used to be on here that sold their Marks because of this issue. If you can't afford it try to do it yourself for a fraction of the price. Otherwise..... well.... look at the bright side, your car will always have fresh oil. :D

Yep. My Exploder has a terrible valve cover leak on the driver side. I need to fix it, but what a PITA. I'm not looking forward to doing it. But it has to be done. It's leaking so bad that the whole exhaust manifold and entire d/s of the engine block are drenched in oil. The bad thing is that I had a local shop (that I trust and used to work for that has done tons of work for me in the past) put a new set of vc gaskets on it just over a year ago. Now I'm wondering if they just tightened the bolts and charged me $150 clams. Hmmmmm...

Anyway, the point is, I had to drive it last week to take my trash off because I sold my old Ranger like an idiot, and I put a quart of Lucas stop leak in it because it was a quart low and I hate the smell of burning oil inside the car. It made no difference at all. I knew this would happen, but I was hoping it would at least help a little. So I've got to put a vc gasket on it. And since the whole upper intake has to come off anyway, I figure why not do both? It'll save me another headache in the future.

Okay, rant over. Live long and perspire!

if you dont want to drop the whole pan just drop it enough to wipe off the oil residueand put some super glue in between and be done with it. trust me it works

Crack heads come up with some good ideas sometimes, lol i tried that one on my 96 impala ss.... never leaked again, just plain old lazy back then

I normally would agree. But my Benz had a pretty bad power-steerring leak. It was already adjusted to full, so I need to replace the gear box anyways. So I got some of the power steering sealant. A month later and its still not leaking anymore. But I would still be hesitant to put anything into an engine.

if your gonna do it right get a reusable thick gasket, clean all surfaces with brake cleaner then tighten the middle bolts low torque then the outside bolts. go back and hand tighten again in the same order... no leaks

change the pump when it starts to leak again. ive had pretty good experiences with power steering stopleak, seen it last for a year then had to change the pump after that.

i replied to unity, i dont know how the subject got changed...... "but yeah like i was saying my rear end is leaky" lol

elbow and extensoin wont fit? how much clearance u got?

I have an elbows and crows feet, maybe that will work? I have not been under it yet but I have been told the K memebr has to come out or the engine to properly remove pan and put the RTF liquid gasket all the way around the pan to seal it properly.
