What did you do to your Mark VIII today?

After replacing diff bushings/transmission bushings I still have a clunk noise...I went by the Ford dealership today and talked to the first mechanic I had work on the car (new AC compressor) and later he replaced replaced front radial arm bushings with "Moog" blue bushings. He reminded that when he had looked at the drive shaft where it joins to the UJ...it appeared to have been rubbing or hitting the tunnel housing (frame of the car). Perhaps I don't have the jargon quite right but I was wondering if this might be the source of the clunk noise. Car accelerates smoothly with out clunking noise but it is quite noticeable on quick release of the gas pedal and then if I tap the accelerator again. U-joint perhaps? Why would the driveshaft be rubbing the tunell housing? Doesn't make sense to me. Ah well...mulling
 
That's good to know as I have 4 Goodyear GTX 245x50x16 sitting in the shed for years now. I always thought they would rub or something so I never mounted them and they have 90% life left.
So how tall would you have to go to keep the same stock height in the 50 series on 16" rims?

well that was a mistake. the Moog strut rod bushings suck. get OEM parts.

drivetrain slack. either in the u joints, or in the differential itself.
my differential was sloppy. it stopped clunking when i replaced the stock gearing with 4.10s.

245/50-16s fit just fine.

245/55-16 is stock height. and about as large as i would go on a stock wheel.
 
Was nice and cold 2 days ago. When I started my car I hit the outside temp button and it claimed 12 degrees. Noted the odometer and it took 3 to 4 miles before my heat was on and warming the car.

Just don't know how I deal without a block heater :p

First 12 isnt that cold second are you adverse to reducing wear and tear on your engine
being 90% of engine wear occurs at start up.
 
Um......Reglued the lower door carpet on both sides and tightened up the rest of the coolant hose clamps.
 
Topher, check the bags for cracks around the bottom edges ..where they ALL crack
 
intake came in today! it complete with throttle cable and bracket, imrc's are plastic and gutted? can i use them?

Sounds like they are deletes. You don't want to run those without the butterflies unless you have steeper gears and a stall converter. You will lose a bunch of low-end torque.
 
I did as everyone suggested and started the day with a trip to Autozone for some PB Blaster so the crossover tube wouldn't argue with me. Boy, that stuff is amazing!!! It took me less than five minutes to remove and the tubes in the engine looked better than the connections for the hoses by far. Huge day tomorrow as all the goodies are finished at the powder coaters. I spent all day today cleaning everything that was exposed by removing the hood and valve covers. Had the chance to put protectant on all the plastic and rubber, particularly that windshield cowl area that tends to leak. Also got to the rear heater hoses and covered the new ones with some new flex shield that I finished with heat shrink. Can't wait to have her back together and in her own garage again. I think it's going to be amazing!!!!! :D

received my '94 PBR Corvette calipers in the mail; time to clean then paint

started playing around to see if they will work; the vette bracket holes line up w/ the Mark spindle as forecast, also as forecast the bracket bolts are not a match

the vettes are 13/16 and the Marks are 15mm
--I'd rather NOT spend more money for Cobra brackets, since I paid for the vette brackets. But I guess it's either that, machine/bore out the spindle holes, or come up w/ a spacer so I can use the 15mm bolts in the 13/16 brackets?
-also as forecast by Superfyre, the banjos are not a match:

1/2'' for the vette, 10mm for the Mark
not sure what to do with the banjo bolt mismatch, open to suggestions
....this is the open end on the vette brake line

maybe splice into the Mark VIII line?
btw, I'll soon have two extra Mark VIII front rotors bored to 4.5'' lug pattern for free or trade
