What did you do to your LS today?

That's a poor place to be concerned with weight. Difference of maybe one pound. They need their heads examined. don-ohio :)^)

A spring clamp keeps constant pressure on the plastic. It doesn't get "tighter" or looser. A screw clamp on the other hand remains a constant size. As things heat up, it puts more and more pressure on the plastic (tighter). When it cools off, it get looser and looser.

Okay,I see your point,Joe. I just don't like those clamps, though. I deal with them grudgingly and they usually give me grief. don-ohio :)^)

Remember, very few on this board where willing to pay the new car $40K+ price for the LS. Just imagine how may fewer would have sold if it was a $60K+ price for the same thing.

They did sell them for $60K but they called them Jaguar S Types. [emoji12]

lol, I can't really believe what I'm hearing right now...

BTW, when I say this, I ain't saying that the 1st gen is garbage... largely they are the same car, but its all those little improvements here and there that just make the experence that much better!

Several things I'm more in love with on the 1st GEN then I am on the 2nd GEN, couple of nice things I like on the 2nd GEN.

Don't believe they should have lost the auto rain sensing wipe though or heated park wiper blade. I do like the 3 sprayers from directly under the hood as apposed to the two on the hood. The auto up window is messing with me, too used to holding it up until all the way up. I tend to let go when I want it up just a little but on the second GEN it keeps going unless you hit it again. Adjust foot peddles does nothing for me and I do like the shifter console and dash cluster more on my 1st GEN. The fact I can get LED's in the interior without issues in the 2nd GEN is a plus.

Other then that it's a little quicker on the get up and go. pretty near the same car as you mentioned. Wish my 04 LSE was as good a shape as my 01 ... is what it is, can't have cake every day!

EDIT - - - -

I enjoyed the adjustable auto lamps off timing on the 1st GEN, unless I'm missing something I can't find it on the 2nd GEN.

Says the man that promoted removal of the coolant degas cap gasket :)^) ??????

Quote BigRig: `Don't believe they should have lost the auto rain sensing wipe'.

I disagree since I just completed a 2500 mile drive and quite a bit of it was in light to very heavy rain. I like the wipers under my control.....not waiting for them to speed up(very frustrating) to the demand. What ever was wrong with the increasing timing of the old intermittents? I think they are great.
It says NOT to do it in the manual, but I'm gonna try RAIN-X on the windshield. I figure I can make them work at low and at high if the auto wipe mode doesn't like it. don-ohio (the man who loosens expansion tank caps the world around) LOL!

I'm sure you disagree but Aquapel lasts longer then RainX.

... My 01 the auto rain sensing wiper system works perfect but it doesn't see much rain.

Why would I disagree? I've never used AquaPel so I sure can't comment.I'd like to try it though. The thing about RainX is,you just buy the orange de-ice solution for your windshield washer tank and it keeps it going. Only time I've ever had to reapply RainX is when the car or truck has sat for a coupla months. Seems then it needs applied again,or at least the windshield washer fluid sprayed and worked onto it. don-ohio :)^)

The RainX washer fluid is fine by itself. I've never put RainX on mine, just use the washer fluid, and it works as well as the cars I've put RainX on. Never seen Aquapel in my area.

On the plastic coolant parts, my complaint with them isn't that they used plastic, it's the plastic they used which isn't suitable for use in coolant systems. Then there was the thermostat choice, they should have used a self-contained model instead of one that has to be assembled into the thermostat housing. People say Lincoln made its choices according to ease of assembly and cost, but this thermostat would have cost them more than the self-contained version.

On the subject of what I did with my LS, I cleaned the headlights with Wipe New. As you may or may not remember, a year or two ago I had a run-in with a tractor trailer where the tractor lost part of a leaf spring on its trailer, which went through the right front corner of my car. Took out the right front wheel and tire, the front fascia, the right front fender and the headlight. The end result of this was the car now has a new HID assembly on the passenger side, and the stock one on the driver side. There was of course an obvious difference between the two. I finally got around to dealing with it yesterday, and I was surprised at how well the stuff worked. You now can't tell the difference between the two headlights, the driver side looks to be identical to the passenger side. It was well worth doing. I did run the buffing pad over the passenger side as well as the driver side, and put the stuff on both headlights to try and make them look identical. No idea if I actually had to do that or not but no matter, it worked. Not to mention the stuff is supposed to help prevent UV damage to the headlights.

Hi

I'm installing a kenwood kac-5001ps amplifier(500W@2ohms) and a 12" pioneer ts-w311d4 subwoofer.

I did the recommended sealed box to test the amp, next I'll do a custom box.

best regards!

that is why 03 is the golden year baby! I love my auto wipers as they work near perfectly... and in the small instance they dont work perfectly, I can use the manual settings just like every other car out there.

agreed though... they shouldn't havve got rid of it in the later years

The auto up window is messing with me, too used to holding it up until all the way up. I tend to let go when I want it up just a little but on the second GEN it keeps going unless you hit it again.
its just cause your not used to it... when you want your windows down just a certian amount, its a quick press to start them and a follow up press to stop them exactly where you want them. its exactly the same amount of time required for each operation, and once you get use to it, you know by memory just how much time between presses and you do it with out even thinking about it.

I enjoyed the adjustable auto lamps off timing on the 1st GEN, unless I'm missing something I can't find it on the 2nd GEN.

RTFM... its in there

there is a process, I have mine set to exactly 2 minutes.

personally, I would have got a sub that closer matches up spec wise.

400w sub is a little light for a 500w amp, but at least its a kenwood so you wont have to worry about it making way more power than advertised...

I can't stand the auto wipers. They do their own thing. Sometimes they overwipe, sometimes they underwipe. I've resigned myself to just twisting them on for a single sweep when I need a wipe, unless it's raining enough to leave them in an on only situation.

On the auto up, that's one of the nice features of this car. I may be mixing this with my truck's auto down function but I think if you push the switch halfway down it doesn't auto-up, it only auto-ups if you push it all the way down. Try hitting it halfway to up and see how it works.

I love the auto-wipers; ESPECIALLY on the freeway or when a truck passes opposite direction and I get deluged! I missed then so much I installed a Raintracker on both our '06's.

Did not even notice, this would mean my wife's 03 has it then, I'll have a look. IMO it should have been left on all years. It's there as an option, can be operated without is so desired.

I can't stand the auto wipers ...

Lot of things you can't stand about the LS. Such an unhappy LS owner. Gotta make a change soon Bud. Next car don't get auto wipers.

I'll have a look and try it out. But yeah, I'm too used to no-auto-up in both my 97 Maxima, 01 LS V8 and the Peterbilt 579, all don't have that option and it stops when I release where I want it. Like Loud1 said, I'm just not used to it on this 04, keeps going up or down while I was hoping for it to stop somewhere. Double clicking is needed. Not used to it, no big deal.

What problems?

1st GEN tends to have problems with LED's, when off, they remain dimly lit until the vehicle goes into sleep mode. This just doesn't work for me. I have LED plate lights only on my 01, they stay on slightly for 30 min.

Same here, it's a nice option, I have seen others complain though that it has a mind of it's own and such ... don't know, mine work well, always have but then again the garage queen doesn't see much rain for that matter. If it did/does it's a panic moment alright. Gotta get back home into the garage and clean it again. Auto-self-clean would have been a much better option!

All years of the LS have heated wiper parks. Gen 2 just doesn't have a light for it.

Heh heh... working on it. I have a few minor repairs to make first. On that topic, I need to reinstall the passenger seat rear cover, does anyone have a picture or source for the lower clip? Been trying to find a pair for the last month and nobody seems to have one that will fit. I'm about ready to see if Lincoln has them, but my local Lincoln dealer can't seem to find that Lincoln ever had an LS.

Oh!?! thought I had already looked for the thin brown line underneath the blades, I'll put my readers on and have a second but much closer look.

Yup confirmed, it goes both up and down if you just don't press all the way to the switch clicking point. Hold it there until where one wants the window and let go, it stops. PERFECT!!! +1 thanks! I was starting to work on my last nerve as I'm to used to the non-auto-up but now I appreciate the halfway on the switch. All these little differences on the 2nd GEN. Might take me a while to find them all.

EDIT - - - -

Got a four wheel alignment done on the 04 LSE, all perfectly straight now including true center on the steering wheel.

Next week Tuesday = Exhaust work, went and saw the guy yesterday afternoon, talked options and $$$ (good deal) Not going SS on this one.

Dang. From Ford Parts Giant:

Hello, I would like to know if -W709782-S300 is the correct part number for my 2003 Lincoln LS. I need the plastic clips that slide into the bottom of the passenger side seat back to install the cover on the seat. If this is the correct part, do you have them in stock? If so please hold me two and I will get an immediate order in. Thanks.

Hello,
Thank you for contacting us today, per our parts specialist:

That is the part number for the pins that hold the cover on the back of the seat. They are obsolete and no longer available.

Regards,

Oh!?! thought I had already looked for the thin brown line underneath the blades, I'll put my readers on and have a second but much closer look.
...

The heater traces were very visible on the original windshields on my 04 and 06. It is not really noticeable on the replacement windshields once installed. (I did check before installation, and the connections were there.)

I don't need the wipers when I'm on the freeway unless it's really raining hard.

The auto lamp off is adjustable in the info center setup. I can set mine up to 2 minutes.

What did you do to your LS today?

Filled the tank with 92 octane for less than $25.

I'm pretty sure that was all years. And I remember seeing the solution is to attach a ~4kOhm resistor in parallel.

Alax posted about it here: http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/fo...sion-Completed&p=602909&viewfull=1#post602909

Hell, I'd modify a bulb for you for like $5 so you don't even worry about wiring or soldering if that's all that's stopping you.
