I was dropping to fuel tank in my 98 to change the fuel pump, and right where to fuel pump is there is this im guessing sensor where you have to push down and twist to pull it out of the gas tank. Well i did that but the top broke off of it. So my question is, what is it? Would it cause my car not to start cause its not starting now that i put the new fuel pump in and where can I order a new one?

I hope you guys know what im talking about here ha.

What type of fuel pump did you put in? Did you wire it properly and not reverse the wires? Pics would be helpful.

This isn't my picture, but that's what broke when i tried to take it off.

EDIT: I installed an Walbro Fuel Pump

I could be mistaken but your positive and neg wires have to be reversed with that pump or it won't work.

hmmm, well they gave you a wire kit where the positive will only fit on the positive side of the pump and I did notice that positive and negative were opposite of the stock fuel pump

I recognize that picture cause I am the one that took it!
Thats my old 97 tank. And if its the circle then thats a level sensor or evap, forget which but thats not your problem. BTW, you didnt need to remove that to drop the tank.

You have it wired wrong. You cut off the factory plug and run its positive to the black wire on the Walbro and run the factory ground to the red wire. Thats just how it is for our cars. I have a Walbro 255LPH in mine and had to wire it that way. Trust us on this. Jamie, Ripped, Sapperfire, NoLimit, SVO, MercuryLS, Chicken, Mespock etc etc etc will all tell you the same thing.

thats the fuel tank psi sensor, used to detect an evap leak, it will run without it but you will get a CEL and a leak with it broken. and dont glue it back together cuz that wont work

DLF will have a heart attack if anyone else says reverse the polarity! :D

You are supposed to hook red to black, and black to red. You are not reversing the polarity, it's just the power wire is color coded differently on the fuel pump as it is on the car.

Cliffs notes: Hook the wires to the opposite colors (red to black, black to red)

Thanks for the help guys but I reversed the wires and I can hear the pump working but still cant get my car to run and it was running before I did all of this. So I think im going to get another fuel pump and see if that helps. Another thing I noticed when I took the entire fuel pump assembly out is both these screw were at the bottom of the tank and the bottom filter was there with them.
