Actually it was not the shop that did the work that said that, but a different shop for a second opinion he was looking for, and instead of finding a second opinion, he met Wilbur, the manager, who happens to be related by mixed blood to the first shop's owner, who did the work. On Wilbur's name plate it said "DAH"

My only thought on this would be this, the flex plate behind the trans, is alluminum or some very flimsy metal, there is a possibility that it may be warped and now making contact to the TC or Flywheel somewhere, Again using the inspection plate as access. (While the car is off) check to see if there is any recently shinny areas in the TC/ Flywheel areas. If so that will indicate where its making contact.
As far as not seating the TC correctly, I would think it would have been extremely apparent that it was not seated.. It will screech and bang the very first time the engine was started. It sounds like after warm up the alluminum stretched enough to make contact. If there is you should be able to see definate signs of contact if you look in through the inspection port.

The only other Thing I can think of would be a faulty Pump. Did they attempt to crank this up Dry at all? Did you inspect the pan while it was out? anything in there that would have scared you prior to install? Did it get J-Modded?

Good Luck
Bill
