The infamous MPG question

30mpg is legit. My best was 31.5 on a 400mi trip, starting and ending at the same elevation*, running right around 70mph with cruise on and the AC off. Verified with the actual amount of gasoline added to fill the car up from full. In fact, I started the trip at the same Costco gas pump where I ended the trip.

*My elevation is about a mile over sea level, so there's less air, thus less fuel is burned.

There is no way in hell that a Mark VIII can get an average of close to 30 mpg. I know that people have claimed it & it's pure BS. These cars were rated somewhere near 17/24 when new. driving down the freeway & taking a pic of the message center doesn't count. What counts is when you fill your tank & average it out.

In my car the message center is DEAD NUTS accurate.
I've worked VERY VERY hard in the tune to "make it so".

Now.. I cannot net 30MPH over a tankful of gas because I cannot drive 400 miles of hiway travel.. in one sitting/tankful.

I have ran 3/4 of a tank of gas out on the hiway (some 300 miles) and the message center said I was at 29.8MPG when I refilled and "ran the numbers" my calculator said I got 30 MPG.

Again.. a "none tuned" car the message center may be fairly in accurate
MINE..isn't.

One of the many benefits of having the SCT pro racer package and being able to change my tune at will, rather than having to beg and plead a tuner to "bother with it".

FWIW: if a tuner was paid to adjust your message center display, be prepared to pay MORE than you would for a "canned performance tune".
I spent MANY many hours driving, datalogging and adjusting the tune" until it's SPOT ON ACCURATE.

If you have the PRP package I can show you how to fix this, it's very easy to adjust.. the hard part is "verifying the numbers" and readjusting it.

P.S. the picture above was taken and my car was sitting still....no BS...plain and simple.

I really enjoy being called out on something trivial........

who cares.

XLRVIII,
Yes maybe during a constant freeway trip. Never possible once you put highway & city driving combined. That's what I was saying, real world everyday driving. You have to remember that some of us live in small towns where there isn't that much stop & go driving while others are stuck at traffic lights just as much as we are driving.

NO what "I was saying" is "MY" car did this.
Did I say "every car will or can".. no.

I agree once you enter into a "combined city/hiway loop" your not gonna "AVERAGE" 30MPG.

My daily commute is sadly very short, I used to actually enjoy a 40ish minute ride to work.
Since my commute is very short, all surface streets below 50mph I wanted to get a good idea what my car would run unhindered by sitting still at a traffic light.. which IMHO bears little relevance to "MILES PER GALLONS".

Oddly enough I agree with most of what said, other than the "purely BS, message center inaccurate" stuff.

at the end of the week with zero hiway miles my car is in the 18-21 range.
Keeping in mind that there is a minimum of 2.5 hours of idling from my lunch breaks alone. that's 4 gallons of gas just sitting still.

Anyways, my message center on my mk8 would say 5 miles left until empty but that's when I'm dead out of gas and car dies...What does that means? I hope it's not anything BIG or my MARK is a MARK AZZ BIOCTH, oh wells, I paid $350 for it

Tommy, You're in Htown with me so they should know how fuccin' bad our traffic is everyday

yea.. Dixie Farm to downtown used to be 15 minute commute before hurricane Ike.
now it's like there's 30-40% more cars on the road and that's now a 40 minute commute.

it's total suckage!

i got 28.8 fromhouston to dallas next week i am driving from dallas to houston and then from houston to florida i log both trips and reset before each venture and post the numbers xlrviii can check in houston and sierra3 can check it in florida so there won't be any confusion on the reading. that was 28.8avmpg with the crusie at 70. but i do get 13 to 14 in the city

What rear end gears do you have? Since I put in my 4:10's I get between 15.8 to 16 on around town driving. Not granny driving either, just semi spirited

Any reason for the douche bag attitude?

nan didn't mean to come across as a douche but i will change my bag on the next post lol

Still stock 3.27 city driving habits are wot i go through a set of tires about every 4 months lol just got my third set haven't had this mark over a year yet

Nope sorry, It's not.

But that is fine. Ive noticed a marked increase in bad attitudes around here recently and as such, I've decided to quit participating around here. It's people like you that are gonna run this forum in to the ground.

Joey should send you a BIG thanks.

People like me? That's funny. How about people like you who sells a car to a poor guy with no title so he has to part it out. Need I say more?

lol, Last time I checked (about a month ago), The car was sitting in Rock Springs Wyoming. Nothing wrong with it, and trying to buy it back. I ended up NOT doing it because of the price.

Get your facts straight before you come at me.

I'm done with this.

Do you have any idea who the Reaper REALLY is? I am assuming that you don't and I'm gonna keep it that way. I still have the signature confirmation fromt he packaging envelope that sent the title.

Jeezus that thread is over a year and a half old.

The car is still whole, and still for sale.

What is the MPG of that title?
Since this IS a MPG thread...

Not that great, :D

I'm sorry for the tangent this thread went on XLRVIII. I just really dislike being called out on trivial B.S. like MPG. Next time I take the car on a road trip I'll take pictures of the fuel station pumps, give turn by turn directions, and post scans of the fuel reciepts.

The other crap that was brought up is just someone not knowing what the hell they are talking about.

Thanks guys.

Mike
