Last night when I start my 93 it rev'd up to 3,600rpms then slowly (very slowly) it came back down to idle speed. I left the house & noticed it would only kick 1st & 2nd gear. Just for sh!ts & giggles I put it into neutral & wham! 3,000 rpm's! IAC is stuck for good this time! Turned around, brought her back home! I started her up a couple hours ago, same thing, 3,000 rpm's & she ain't budging! I'm done, I put my 93 in the back yard & after my honeymoon I'll figure out what to do. Too many things to do to all 3 of my cars so it will simply have to wait!:mad::mad::mad: So needless to say! DAMN THAT IAC!!!

Sux bro hope she's not down for to long i think mine is going not sure....it doesn't have a bad idle but a CL comes up Evey 1k miles or so saying its over speed.....
 
honestly alex you have made such a big deal out of that :q:q:q:qing iac its an hour job to fix it you are such a procrastinator!!!! just fix it and shut your suckhole already.

An hour job on a 93???

SH!T I know it took me atleast 4 hours to get to mine.. and cross threaded the bolt going back in, Only when I got to DLF's house was I able to get to it easily as my trans was already out!.. made access super easy. other then that.. TB comes off, entire wiper assembly has to be removed.. I dont consider this a 1 hour job..

But then I have to DEFER to your experiance and Age... :eek:

yeah, this was me right before sending the message last night! Ahhhhh! Yes, gotta love LVC. I could do something.... but I choose to stay right here watching Family Guy!!!!

Oh, & Jamie, remember, I'm getting married dude + I get outta work @ 7pm daily otherwise I'd rip that sh!t apart! You know the Gen I IAC is a pain in the behind!

Can be done in an hour after you have changed a few and have just the right tool. I got mine down to less than an hour but it was that one certain tool that made it all possible. Very long flexible T-handle that takes the socket needed. I can come in behind the AC dryer and all that stuff and hit the two nuts and bolts with ease. My first one was a few hours but now it's nothing to it.

I would never let an IAC swap put me in the back yard. Get that damn thing changed and if the TPS is old too, knock it out along with the other while you're in there.

TPS, Never scared me. the IAC however, I took a short cut when I had the trans out. since the bolts are very long and when I changed it last time the bolt hit the firewall making the wrench hard to remove. I shortened the bolts by about 1/8th inch
 
I used shorter bolts on a few things when I swapped my motor. Makes changing things in the future alot easier ;-)

Brackets and things that don't really need 3 inch bolts...lol

Mine is like this and acts as a ratchet but with a T handle and my flexible extension is 18" long and takes bits and or a 1/4" adapter on the end which would hold the socket needed for the IAC. On the T, I can slide a little button down to reverse my turn or forward it. At the moment, mine is still out back under plastic, inside a toolbox that hasn't been brought into the garage since the fire. The below pics give an idea of what I'm talking about and it makes and IAC swap extremely easy.

Now, you would take the extension, which is flexible, put it onto the T handle along with your 8mm socket and come in from behind all that crap in the way and at the same time, you can use your right hand to hold onto the bolt that's being removed. I always go back with 2 of the same bolts and not the one with a nut in the middle of it. I also use some that are a little shorter because what they put in there are stupid long and not needed. When I put the new IAC back on, I first put a drop of elmers glue on each end of the gasket to hold it in place so that I can easily get the new bolts started.

When I get all this junk out back uncovered and cleaned up, I'll get a pic of exactly what I have but the above is basically it.

Exactly. I see no need in the long bolts they put into the IAC. When I put mine back in, they are nearly half the length but plenty of thread to go into the manifold and they don't back out.
 
its not that hard come on and you dont have to take the wiper assembly out either. alex i am only giving you a hard time, and dont give me the married :q:q:q:q excuse go outside and fix the god dam thing. i work fulltime and i still manage to pull motors and other crap after work so thats a gay excuse. all the time you have spent posting about it, and how much trouble it has been, if you spent that time outside and not on the computer you could have changed it 10 times!!! you are not at your wedding right now, so go outside and get them pretty little hands dirty you bitch.

Yeah I post while I'm @ work so that puts "going outside" outta the question! I'm actually still in the office as we speak/type! I have a feeling that my biggest issue then is that I DON'T HAVE THE PROPER TOOLS! That's it, no other way around it! I need the right tools to get in there. Nothing I have in my tool box can get that IAC outta there PERIOD! Granted, through the years I've loaned out too many tools & los them all so I'm @ bare minimum. I will go to my grandparents house this weekend to search through my late grandfather's tools to see if he had something I could use... That's if my dad hasn't taken it all by now.
 
all you need is a 1/4 inch drive ratchet, a shallow 8 mm socket, and an 8 mm open end wrench, you can get those at walmart in the candy isle my god
 
Knowing his luck he will replace the Idle Air Control Valve and he will still idle at 3000+.
 
he wont fix it, he isnt a hands on kind of guy. he'll just bitch about it until someone drives to miami and fixes it for him. maybe i'll come down and see rich for a day and i will be that close to you and wont even offer!

You are not a man until you take out the wiper assembly and replace it correctly on a Gen 1.
 
Alex if you dont have the flow just get to a local u-pick and get a used one...it shouldnt be more than 20 bucks for a used IAC...make sure you get a new gasket...and replace the bitch...20mins tops and your car will be back to normal...its not a put the car away b/c my stupid IAC is shot type of thing, its an IAC for crying out loud...its a simple fix. DO IT!!!!
 
marvin its a 1st gen it isnt a 20 minute tops job, second gen is right ontop the intake the 93-96 is burried off the back of the intake behind the pass head.
 
oh ok sorry Im thinking GenII since thats all ive owned but still it shouldnt be a park the car type of thing.
