Just picked up a 1993 mark viii which I used to own...sold last year and bought back for fraction of what I sold it to him for...car has 280,000kms (173,000 miles) with lsc exhaust 3rd cat delete and flowbastards man does this car boogey vs my 1998 lsc with 3rd cat delete and magnaflow mufflers and 190,000 kms (100,000miles)

Kind of a shame really usually next generation vehicles improve performance not tone it down...time for gears and a tune I guess

Ps I know they are slower just it's seriously night and day
 
Don't think so..no codes of any sort

New o2's, tuned up eveything fuel filter plugs 3 new oem coils...cleaned maf throttle body all sorts of stuff...Definetly atleast a full second slower

The 1993 has engine light on and off while cruising and a few other issues feels like TCC solenoid flicks on and off slightly while at high way speeds will verify issues once at work with a scanner also know it had lean bank 1-2 codes from before when I owned it previously

Also the restored headlights did not with stand the past year will need to pull apart passenger side and replace passenger side as the previous owner cracked it and the corner light...
 
I know what they say about road test times, but when I went shopping for my first and second Mark VIII in the late 90's I road tested many clean low miles Mark VIII's. And in general the 1st generation cars were noticeably faster. I'll soon be asking for suggestions soon on the most bang for the buck for my new 1998 Blk/Blk LSC. (no supercharger for this one)
 
Jeremys 93 was faster then my 98 LSC when I had mods and he didnt. My current 93 is quicker then his lightly modded 98 LSC now. :lol:

I hate to admit it but Gen 1's (at least 93's) are faster then second gen LSCs. :(
 
It's mostly the tune. The 93 computers command a lot more timing advance versus the gen 2's, plus the cars are a bit lighter and the gen 1 intake manifold has a flatter torque curve. I ran a 14.6-14.7 bone stock in my 93 and 14.6 in my 98 LSC with an SCT chip and Dynomax mufflers.
 
So the 3.73s and 10" converter going in my 1995 LSC should pick it up quite nicely?

I'm just asking cause I have little experience with these platforms.....

I wouldn't waste my time with the 3.73's, these cars need a lot more gear than that to make a real difference.

4.56 gears in Drive would put you at 113 in the 1/4 at 6500 rpm.
That does sound good for great times!

4.30 gears in DD would just about keep me working a 4th job to keep gas in it. I live in the middle of nowhere and it's 30 miles any direction to get to a SMALL town; cities are 70 and 90 miles away.

Shoot, the new Mustang 5.0's come with 3.55s and it's a general consensus from ppl I've talked to with 'Birds and Mark VIII's that 3.73s are a good compromise.

My boss has a '91 Mustang 5.0L with 3.73s in the back and it's bad ass (I know it's a lot lighter), but he doesn't drive it much cause of the gas it sucks down.
 
Gears

With 3.07s - 25" tire .70 od and 2000rpm you will be at 69.2 mph
With 3,73s that would get ya 56.99 at 2000 - a loss of little over 12 mph
2030 rpm = 70 mph with 3.07s
2160 rpm = 70 mph with 3.27s
2350 rpm = 70 mph with 3.55s
2470 rpm = 70 mph with 3.73s:steering
2570 rpm = 70 mph with 3.90s
2700 rpm = 70 mph with 4.10s:steering
2850 rpm = 70 mph with 4.30s
3000 rpm = 70 mph with 4.56s
3200 rpm = 70 mph with 4.88s
3400 rpm = 70 mph with 5.13s
3900 rpm = 70 mph with 5.88s
Looks like 373 will gain ya close to 500 rpm and 4.11 will gain ya close to 700.
Looks like either gear would be great - just lose 200 rpm with the 4.11s over the 3.73s so that ain't gonna kill ya and the 3.73s won't be too far off the mark<< couldn't resist the pun - especially if you already have them.
 
4.30s are the ultimate street gear IMO and the good thing about our cars is we have overdrive. :) I'm at about 2750rpms at 70 mph with 4.30s My buddy has a Regal Turbo-T with a 3 speed and that car is at 3000 rpms at 60 mph with 3.42 gears It could be A LOT worse. :D

We can cruise around all day with 'em, I wish I had kept mine :/
 
I had 373 in my 97 when I bought it, I liked it. Then I put 430's in and had instant boner. 430's = more fun.
