Just recieved my http://www.nophoto.com/ in the mail. Funded it as part of an indiegogo campaign (like kickstarter). No more stupid red light camera tickets for me... I hope!

what happens when a cop pulls up behind you and your car starts flashing too!!! lol

I'm as much against red light cameras as anyone (they are just a money grab, nothing at all about safety), but I don't think you will be as safe as you think.
Many traffic cameras have switched to infra-red cameras and flashes for various reasons. Those won't care at all about the extra visible light you are throwing at them.

I don't see what the big issue is with cameras. The only ones I have ever seen are ones in work zones, and red light cameras, both of which I feel if you activate you are a jerk.

looks good. here in texas they actually sued the company monitoring the red light cameras. bottom line of story is that the private company lost in court and they had to take all of the red light cameras down.well not all but those small suburbs with their own police could still retain the cameras if officers within the station were monitoring them.

The flash sensor works in both visible and infrared spectrums. The flash bulb in the camera is a normal xenon flash bulb just with an infrared filter. This thing uses the same xenon-style flash bulb as the RLCs do so it puts out both visible and infrared light. Also includes a no-ticket guarantee.

There's not a single RLC within a mile of any construction zone down here. They only put them at heavily traffic'd right on red intersections. They aren't even the intersections with the most traffic incidents, just the most heavily traffic'd. Some of them ONLY have them in one direction. Guess which direction is the one with the cameras? Yup, the one with all the cars on it. It is all about revenue, nothing to do with traffic safety or anything else. Hell, the ticket here is written as a non-moving violation... that you have to be moving to get! How does that work? So it's no points, just a fine.

The kicker is they even lowered the yellow times below NHTSA recommended minimums in order to increase revenue. My conscious for using this thing is clear. The city big wigs can hire more cops if they want to write me speeding tickets.

Red light cameras have been proven to increase rear-end collisions without reducing other impacts.
At first they only made money when the yellow timing was set too low. People are on to that now, so the yellow timing has been fixed in most places. Once that happened, the cameras didn't make enough money to stay in place. To get back to making money, they added tickets for right turn on red without fully completely stopping. Studies have proven that slowly rolling through a right on red is not dangerous. Also, the cameras have false positives.

The whole camera thing has never been about safety. It's a way for the local government to add revenue without requiring a vote on adding a tax. The problem is that the camera company gets a big cut (about half) of the ticket fee ("tax"). So the local government gets an extra $200. Australia (where most of the camera companies come from) gets an extra $200 too. The people are out $400. The local economy loses $200 net. And we wonder why this country is going down...

Me and my business partner have a side project regarding red light cameras: http://www.stpetecameras.org/

We're pretty familiar with all their tricks and flawed reasoning around here. They even include the revenue from the RLCs in the next years budget. Yeah, safety, right. We've gotten closer to getting them thrown out. It's currently a talking point for most of the electorate here. Hopefully soon they'll be gone.

I got a right turn on red ticket for going 13 mph. I was 1 mph over the 'safe' rolling stop of 12mph. Got another one for running a red light by 0.1 seconds. The picture of my car had me in the middle of the intersection.

theres this freeway i have to pass by to go to work everyday. i would have to make a right turn..so they caught on that people just went ahead without stopping when there is absolutely no traffic comming the other way. so they placed a red light camera directly behind that traffic light. if you stopped for 1 sec and went you would receive a $75 ticket in the mail. now they had to remove those cameras(court order) ..im pretty sure they have lost alot of $$$ by now..they are just waiting for other ways to generate revenue.

Well I don't know anything about them so that's news to me, they aren't allowed here in WV to the best of my knowledge. If that stuff is really happening then I suppose that does suck quite a bit. Sounds like a case of crooked municipalities more than anything.

On a side note, here the State Police receive absolutely no revenue from any citations issued, and this is not that uncommon among other agencies, municipalities are usually the ones trying to scrape revenue from law enforcement.

On a side note, here the State Police receive abosoutley no revenue from any citations issued so it always bothers me when people think otherwise.

yea they took them down here in houston since they got sued for them. they are gone now. only towns able to have them are the ones with their own police dept and THEY have to monitor them. here we have the State troopers, constables and Houston police Dept.

I've never got a ticket from a RLC. I've went through quite a few yellows. I always throw the middle finger up just in case.

I'm also the guy who writes "PD FUNDRAISER DONATION" in the memo line on checks for traffic citations.

That's almost as fun as writing "this is a holdup" on the memo line for when the gf asks for money and has to cash a check from me. :)

only been through one... but I was driving a buddies car so he got it Muhahahaha... Still think it will be funny if a strobe bar sets it off

Here these things will flash during rolling red turns on a red. Gotta buy one.

A little note on fitment: The surround of this thing is about 5/8" around the size of your plate. I'm not suite sure if it will it on the LS or not. It does have a standard-sized plate area that sticks out about 1/2" to 5/8" which might make it fit better. I'll take some picks of it held up to the trunk of an LS later to show you what I mean.

It would fit on the front of an LS with no problem. It's the sunken in rear plate that presents a problem. The outside dimensions are 13"x7"x1.75". There is a 1/2" tall section on the back that is the side of a standard license plate.

Are these things set at a specific height? If so, would wonder if recessing the plate, then altering the angle, so the plate can still be read from behind at 6 feet or lower (so the plate can be read by a police car) but not higher than that would work.

The thing I have doesn't obscure the plate in any way. It's completely open. All it does it shine extra light on the plate similar to the bulbs that are already present above the license plate. It just happens to do it in a single flash.

I have seen links to the polarizing rear license plate covers. It only has like a 10-degree vertical viewing angle from the rear or something like that. Although technically that counts as obscuring the plate.

Update:

Found it, it was this thing: http://www.ghostplate.com/GHOSTPLATE_2.html

Although I think it would be a pretty easy argument for the cops to say it visually obscures the license plate.

It's the same way here. The PD's make nothing on any state/city citations, and it all goes to the courts and state/local 'general fund'.

Hmmm let's see ... "Jerk" or "Increased Insurance Premiums"? = Alex, I'll take category "JERK" for $400 please !!!

all red light cameras are mostly for revenue.

Correction; ... are all for revenue.

As pointed out, the yellow triggers were/are set too low to ensure enough revenue generating, meaning when you "proceed with caution" on a yellow, as the Amber traffic light law is written (at least around here) it's stealing money out of your pocket when in fact it produces a picture of a car halfway through an intersection and other lanes haven't seen the green just yet.

Really it's supposed to only trigger when the light turns red and the car enters the intersection and by that it's written "to have crossed the white stop marker".

+1 Too funny, will have to remember these, I may use on my annual insurance cheque I cut them each year paid in full. They tell me it would be easier if I just give them my banking informations and sign to approve monthly premium withdrawal. NO, I don't think so ... here's all the money up front for the year minus interests, now f*ck off!

Kumba, you ever wonder why you provide links to product information with specific "how-it-works" pages and nobody bothers with it ?

thanks for posting this, although I do not and tend not, to run through radar traps or RLC, it's a worthy investment to protect insurance premiums, DL and privacy.

I'll be interested in further "mounting" posts and am interested in ordering one as well. I'd get one for my wife's car but it wouldn't protect her from following a dump truck too closely through a red light and then afterwards attempting to explain she couldn't see the red light because of the height of the dump truck in front of her. Judge warned that perhaps she wanted a "following too closely" situation as well ? Still have that photo. Red light runner was on the fridge for the longest time. Was a real winner! Insurance on her car went up couple hundred for each year for a few years. I was so happy with her!

People: read this page (http://www.nophoto.com/pages/how-it-works)
before assuming the product is flawed. It explains the design/concept in great detail.
