So much for effective red light cameras

It would fit on the front of an LS with no problem. It's the sunken in rear plate that presents a problem. The outside dimensions are 13"x7"x1.75". There is a 1/2" tall section on the back that is the side of a standard license plate.

Yeah, I took a quick look. There's no room for it in the rear surround.

Yeah, left to right it would fit, but I would have to take the surround out and cut it out to fit this top to bottom unless I wanted to put 1" standoff's on it. Then it would look somewhat goofy as it would be sticking out from the trunk. I thought of taking a sander to the case but I would need to shave about 1/2" off the thing over-all and there just isn't enough plastic there to do that. Even if I did do that there would be no room for the back-up camera I want to install. I would have to do something different for that.

It would fit great on a truck or a van or the front plate. If only it was a little shorter top to bottom it would work great. Since it was an "Apple certified" engineer they probably made the bezel the same depth all the way around to look pretty. Nevermind the functionality of it. No real reason for the top or bottom bezel to be anywhere near that thick. Ohh well.

Hmmm let's see ... "Jerk" or "Increased Insurance Premiums"? = Alex, I'll take category "JERK" for $400 please !!!

Correction; ... are all for revenue.

As pointed out, the yellow triggers were/are set too low to ensure enough revenue generating, meaning when you "proceed with caution" on a yellow, as the Amber traffic light law is written (at least around here) it's stealing money out of your pocket when in fact it produces a picture of a car halfway through an intersection and other lanes haven't seen the green just yet.

Really it's supposed to only trigger when the light turns red and the car enters the intersection and by that it's written "to have crossed the white stop marker".

+1 Too funny, will have to remember these, I may use on my annual insurance cheque I cut them each year paid in full. They tell me it would be easier if I just give them my banking informations and sign to approve monthly premium withdrawal. NO, I don't think so ... here's all the money up front for the year minus interests, now f*ck off!

Kumba, you ever wonder why you provide links to product information with specific "how-it-works" pages and nobody bothers with it ?

thanks for posting this, although I do not and tend not, to run through radar traps or RLC, it's a worthy investment to protect insurance premiums, DL and privacy.

I'll be interested in further "mounting" posts and am interested in ordering one as well. I'd get one for my wife's car but it wouldn't protect her from following a dump truck too closely through a red light and then afterwards attempting to explain she couldn't see the red light because of the height of the dump truck in front of her. Judge warned that perhaps she wanted a "following too closely" situation as well ? Still have that photo. Red light runner was on the fridge for the longest time. Was a real winner! Insurance on her car went up couple hundred for each year for a few years. I was so happy with her!

People: read this page (http://www.nophoto.com/pages/how-it-works)
before assuming the product is flawed. It explains the design/concept in great detail.

once again, more valuable insight from BIGRIG!!! how LVC (a.k.a BIGRIG's SOCIAL OUTLET) ever survived before he got here, I'll never know....

You could replace the cylinder lock for the trunk with the camera......

Or, drill a hole centered in the bumper cover, in line with the backup sensors, and use a backup sensor bezel to make it look like you have 5 sensors instead of 4, if the camera will lend itself to modification to fit. If the camera is one of those designed to mount to the two license plate bolts, you might be able to attach it to the metal bumper under the cover with the camera peeking out the bezel hole. It would be a lot of work but would look very factory that way. A person would have to know the LS well to know that something wasn't right, and that's the best kind of modification; the one that people can't see is not factory unless they are experts on the car.

If you go this way, make sure the camera and mounting method will fit before any drilling is done, AND make sure that it's installed in a replaceable manner in case of camera failure.

Yeah, I thought about doing that, or moving the cylinder to the other side and putting the back-up camera there. I'd still have to take the surround trim piece off of the trunk and cut it out and graft this thing back in so that it would be water tight. That's the real PITA to me. Finding a different camera mount doesn't bother me too much.

I'll probably sit it in the garage and go get a color-matched trim from an LS in the junkyard and see about working it in. I don't like cutting on something that's still on my car, I always like having a modified and unmodified piece in case I don't like it. The good part is that if I do that I can just keep modifying the surround trim so that I can fit some sort of camera in there without worrying about it.
