Hey Tommy besides all this Bull Sh1t between you and 98 I was saying that the comparison netween special forces and PRP isn't a fare match up..
Ok I was going to bow out of this discussion because I had said "all that could be said and more", but since I was addressed "directly" I guess someone really does want to hear "more".
you are correct, comparing PRP and Sniper isn't fair, because PRP "just works".
You tell it what to do and it just does it, no runs no drips no errors.
I dont disagree at all...it's not fair to compare a craftsman screwdriver to a chinese screw driver.
PRP is a pro racer set-up.
THAT is merely the NAME if it..it was put together for the "Pro racers" that used SCT tuning, nothing more, nothing less..dont let an internet hyped NAME make you think there is something "special" in PRP.
The only special thing is it "WORKS".
Yes special forces is limited because its the entry level tuner to be safe for idiots like myself and many on the site.
If you think a program that doesnt work properly is SAFE to tune your car with, you are very very wrong.
I would be very concerned with what happens when you tell it to "do something" and it doesn't work.
you MAY be putting erroneous values into other area of the PCM without your knowledge and who know's WHAT that program could be telling your PCM to do.
If sniper gives you enough control to change spark and AF then you have something that in now way is "safe for idiots"..that is just absolute wrong.
With this said yes it could be better.
it would have been much better if it actually "WORKED"..
I've experienced some major issue that should have been worked out before being sold to the public.
Dont get me wrong, it's not that I am SO ANTI SNIPER that I cant or wont listen to reason...but.. so far with the mark 8 platform there has been nothing but constant issues with sniper.
Some of the users accept these limitations and go on with life.
But the users that came in and said "sniper is great, blah blah blah" did you and the rest of the group buy folks a serious dis-service.
1. they KNEW the screwdriver was broken and let you buy it anyways
2. they were more worried about either "driving someone away from SCT" or "making a sale" to give honest and accurate information.
From what I have seen with Sniper, it's like taking a badass Snap-On screw driver and cutting the shank off.
YES.. you have a very very cool ergonomic handle that says SNAP ON but it "wont turn a screw worth a crap"..but HEY, it's a nifty ice pick now!!!!
I gave good information from the start.
YES you may have to pay a little more, but those that think a "bargain price" for a tuning solution, and purchase a product SOLEY based on price, probaby shouldn't be tuning their own cars.
Try not to miss this important issue.
when you make changes to your PCM and changes dont go into the correct memory addresses to work properly, you REALLY REALLY need to be concerned that "where did those values actually LAND"?
Did they land in a innoculous, unused part of the pcms addresses?
or did they land in a place that MIGHT REALLY hurt something on your car.
Who know's, when you change the speed limiter it might be commanding reverse gear to engage at 100 MPH.
The problem IS there is no way to "TELL".
So yea, you pay a little more for PRP, but it can also be "turned down" to level 1,2,3 for a budding tuner to have enough control with limitations.
