I have driven them. Ive driven every model including a V-6 Stick (was only a mile to bring to my other lot) and I like them. I believe I had said that in my earlier post, that I like them and I was just messing around.
If I needed a 4-door then it would be pretty high up on the list of cars to choose from.
So please, don't take me ragging on it seriously, its all in fun. I thought it was funny when I first joined here and saw that there was a rivalry between the two cars here.
I actually had a SC Riviera, was a nice car. The Mark is much nicer IMHO and I hate FWD cars. The Mark is much more balanced and easy to read at the limits. The Riviera, not so much.
So opinions vary, I tend to buy what I like, not what the magazines tell me to. If I listened to MT then I would only own a BMW.
I am a true car enthusiast, I love most cars and I do like the LS (see above reply) and have owned more cars in the last 18 years then most people will own in a life time. I have had BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, 300z's, RX-7s, Supra, 14 different Stangs 4 of which were Cobras and one was a GT350, couple Benzes (older 560 and a S500), Corvettes, F-bodies, Trucks etc etc. I like cars and switch allot. I loved the Mark VIII when it came out but couldn't afford $45K so when they dropped in price and I needed a reliable DD I bought one. Its actually been the most reliable and dependable car I have ever owned. I wont own it forever, I really don't know how long I will own it for.
Now IDK what the mods available for the LS's exist but from lurking here it seems its quite few. My Mark was simple and cheap to modify and can carve a corner excellent and accelerate very nice and I haven't even installed the gears and Trac Lok I have sitting here yet. I have Hemi 300C's and Chargers messing with me all the time and I always walk them. My buddies 04 GT with a 100 shot and full exhaust with a tune can just hang on my rear bumper if I launch it well and if its from a roll I pull a length and a half and hold it till 100 when the car pulls farther away.
I know my car is significantly faster then a LS though.
Hey, lets look at the stock specs:
HP: LS8= 280 VIII= 290
TQ: LS8= 286 VIII= 290
Weight: LS8=3768 VIII=3760
0-60: LS8=7.5 VIII= 7.0
1/4: LS8= 15.7 VIII= 15.2
MPG HWY OBSERVED LS8=19 VIII= 26
So how exactly does the LS have ALLOT more balls?
I drove an 02 V8 LS for a few days when I traded my friend my 93 RX-7 R1 for the week. I drove the piss out of that car and really pushed it. Its a nice car but it is weird at the limits and not very confidence inspiring through the corners. I am sure better springs and shocks would make a big difference though. On my Mark changing them and adding better sway bars made a HUGE improvement in the twisties.
Also a 528i really embarrassed me at a stop light when i had the LS.
So how about this. You like your car and own it. I like my car and own it. They are both very nice Lincolns and very sporty. They each have their weak and strong points and appeal to different people. They are better then their Riviera and Diamante counter parts. We can all be friends and take pride in our American built luxury sports cars and flip the bird to ricers. Sound good?
Also i wont poke fun at the LS anymore as I do like the car and some day may own a LS8.... is the LSE the top one?
