smoking under hood..!

well kinda of a long story but ill try to keep it short..

my girlfriends alternator went out late sunday night i got it home and told her id fix it in the morning but she had to work and the only other vehicle we have is my 94 mark so after debating wakeing up a 3:30am and driving her i just let her take it..i trust her and she never would beat on it shes knows its my baby and she works about 15-20 miles away..

so she drove it to work and the low coolant light came on and it scared her and she didnt no weather to call me or not. she got to work and told her friend at work and told her im probally gonna blame her or be mad and so her friend had the bright idea of fixing the problem ..and her owning a cobalt ss and changing her own oil she thinks she knows cars!!!.so they added coolant.

she came home and i was just finishing up and i seen her pull in the driveway as soon as she parked saw smoke coming from the hood..poped the hood and it looks like tranny fluid is leaking from the tran dipstick it also looked like it poped up a lilttle bit ..the resavoir was completey full..they really overfilled it and after letting it cool down for a couple hours went out and it still didnt go down..so i pulled the hose let coolant out and bleed the system .but it still is leaking on to the exhaust.checked fluid levels and the top of the tran dipstick had burnt the fluid level is good and the actual fluid is good(was just changed 2 months ago)oil is good and coolant is good now.

not sure whats leaking or wrong or if she cause the problem or it just is a freak accident .any input would be great. thanks
 
yea advise noted :) but i got laid off 2 months ago and shes bring home the most money kinda was forced to!
 
umm she filled the trany with what????????? coolant in the tranny is a bad idea, i would get a tranny flush, if she filled the coolant, and it overfilled, is should just be runoff
 
she promises she didnt touch the transmission or add anything besides coolant to the resavoir.so i do belive her we have been together for 3 years and are getting married next summer..but it just seems odd that it she added coolant and now somethings broke!
 
I would talk to her friend figure out what in the hell she did. Just say I'm not mad you won't get in trouble LOL just tell me what you did to my car
 
me and her already had that talk :) and i do belive her and she pointed out exactly where she poured it in(resavoir) and showed me exactly what she used(pre mixed 50/50 coolant)
 
A little spilled trans fluid on the manifold will smoke for a while.

The two are not connected (smoke and overfilling the coolant) unless you have a leaking heater hose which is possiable.
 
I'm so confused...if trans fluid is leaking you should see it...park the car, place cardboard under it...start car..look for spots...
The main thing over the trans that would leak coolant is the Heater Core hoses...of those are leaking you'll need to drop motor down some to replace them BOTH..or just bypass the heater
 
you say your trans was completely full?????? did she pound it so hard the back of the block cracked? lol j/k, something woulda broke before that, does it run alright, did you proplerly fill it up again, in the crossover tube, how much did she have to add?
 
its hard to see back there but it really looks like its coming from the dipstick..dosent leak when cars off or its just so little and it really smells like tranny fluid not coolant pretty easy to tell the differnce in smells.the fluid is isnt low so its not leaking alot.
 
Dipstick tube is prolly leaking at the o-ring and spraying the cat on the passenger side.
 
yea was doing some research and it sounds like dipstick o -ring but it wouldnt explain the top of the dipstick inlet tube being soaked along with when i pulled the dipstick it was all crusty at the top guessing burnt fluid and when she came home it looked like there was so much pressure it poped up a lilttle.it is running good and shifts good havent had it past 50 so not sure about last gear yet didnt wana drive it to much not knowing what kinda damage im doing.and she said that she added maybe a inch or inch 1/2 to resvoir so how much ever that is... i did properly fill it up through crossover.
 
Sounds like she was beating the chit out of it then. Hold too much RPM for too long and the trans pump will push fluid out there as well as kick out the dipstick.

My bet is she put the car in second gear and ran down the highway at 70mph the whole way to work.

ummmmm no thanks on the ls..so i asked her if she was in drive or overdrive and she said she didnt know but when we went out there i showed where the green od light would light up and she said it was on so she did drive it with the overdrive off..god knows how long and she was going at least 60...probally not to healthly on the trans :/
 
even at 70mph without the OD on, that wont hurt anything. im wondering if the fluid boiled over or maybe it got over filled. My Bronco boiled over when i was pulling a big boat. sprayed the whole underside of my truck and the whole hull of the boat with tranny fluid. lucky a fire didnt start.
 
maybe it would if she was in od and droped it into drive goin 60-70..i dont know gonna watch for the next few days just sucks cause some :q:q:q:q:q:q:q recently kicked and creased my drivers door went to a junkyard pulled one for $60 and got a $2600 check from my isurance so i was gonna prime it and get my whole car painted next summer..so i was gonna put that into gears,posi,converter,driveshaft,chip looks like ill be falling short if i need to replace trans.
