see, i knew i shouldnt have touched it

i gotcha now, no 1st gen hood will lift like a gen 2 hood, all i have to do is release my hood striker catch and mine shoots up too, its because the gen 2 hood is so dam light, even brand new struts on a gen 1 hood wont ever open like that, they will open on their own from like a 1/4 ways up, but it wont shoot up like a gen 2.

Yeah Jamie, see I don't have anything to compare it to...so
I would like to see how new ones function...I lift hoods all damn day..every car in my shop gets it's hood lifted, Lasers hood is the fastest hood I've ever seen...so..how fast should a Gen1 open..

You are the expert on this forum for parts..you should know how fast they operate until normal functioning...unlike me, so I asked you

You should see how violently the new Chevy hoods open I almost got punched in the face the other day by a new Denali. No fun, and they are a pain to close. Lift quick and close slow.

my neighbor got knocked out years ago, in his garage working on his 1970 olds 442 W-30. the 455 was at a machine shop getting worked on, and he was taping off the engine bay to paint, he had pushed the driverside hinge down to get it out of his way, well he was leaning over the hinge using his head obviously, and the hinge sprung up, hit him in the chin, flapped back a hunk of meat about 3/4 of an inch square, knocked his ass cold out, and blood was all over his face, it happend so fast we didnt know what he did, then we realized it, his dad was a surgeon and we got to watch him stitch mike up right there at the house, he was white as a ghost when he came to lol!!

Ive taken a few punches (dont know why, Im such a nice guy) that should have knocked me out but didnt but man a set of bad hood shocks almost did! I was working on an Audi 5000, the big old 4 doors from the late 80's and I had a shovels handle propping the hood up. I was under the nose and I slid out and then sat upright on the ground with my back to the cars nose. The shovles handle slid from under the hoods lip and the hood came down while pushing the shaft of the handle down the whole way with the tip swinking in an arc straight for my head. Smacked me right on the back part of the top of my head and I may have blacked out for a split second but was concious to hear my friends both yell "Holy chit!" and run over.
Only time in my life that I actually saw stars, saw them for several minutes too!

Now on cars with bad hood shocks I use vice grips to lock them up.
