Remove oil pan?

If one takes loose the motor mounts, is that all that will be holding the engine? Can you then lift the engine with a hoist say enough to get the oil pan off and out or do you not have clearance because of tyranny and exhaust etc?

Yes. Engine hoist, cross bar, etc.

X2 its kinda easy to. One guy on here lists step by step on how to do it in driveway with pics. My post shows how to do it on lift with engine bar.

mine engines being moved to the side slightly and exhaust came off in front(it needed fixing anyways), bracing engine and dropping sub sounds like the way to go thats how i do it on my 68 plymouth

sucks with exhaust because up here in canada most bolts just snapp off when working on exhaust

Seeing the pan removed and how to clean the old gasket gunk off and how to put the new gasket material would be a real help. Do you know if all that front end stuff had to come off or was that because he was replacing other front end parts?

its been a while since i pulled the pan but there shouldnt be any old gasket gunk. it should be a one piece molded silicone/steel gasket like the trans pan gasket.

That's how I learned. Trial and error.


I do share info, just not the commonly asked/easy to find junk that seems to be coming up recently. I refuse to answer questions that I KNOW can be found by searching through history.

I did search first. Nothing came up using oil pan, oil pan gasket, remove oil pan , replace oil pan gasket. Obviously I'm not using the right search words.

Well anyway to repeat what others have said, there won't be enough clearance to get proper torque values with the oil pan bolts unless you support the engine from above with a hoist or crossbar support via alternator bolts and drop the K member. There is a proper gasket with the '98s.

I just spoke with Lincoln dealership and they say it calls for a little over 5 hrs, so about $550 plus gasket cost and oil for them to replace the oil pan gasket.
