Reinhart Chip

Been from using UV EEPROMS to flashing changes on the fly using the MSII in the SVO.

I have yet to fiddle with the tune on my Mark.

the eec iv vane meter SVO is a dinosaur compared to the Mark8 PCM.

I trashed that piece of junk shortly after buying it. It's been running a MegaSquirt II for 4 years now.

The UV EEPROMS were in the 165/7730/7749 GM ECMs I was using before changing to a flash EEPROM.

Hell, I had the SVO running the 7749 ECM/SyTy code for a year prior to changing to the MSII.

The contradiction was that you spent a ton of money on chips that you really weren't happy with, to burning your own, which was my point to start. :)

I am very picky and a hard to please customer due to various reasons that really wouldn't apply to "most" mark 8 owners.

ET bracket racing has some "ins and outs" and issues that wouldnt affect 99.9999% of mark 8 owners who dont put 5000 passes on a car in 10 years.

I hear ya.

It's an addictive thing once you have control to make changes as you see fit, when you want.

Agreed, that is the reason the OTC guys sell chips... :)

Guess I'm a bit jaded from my GM tuning days. Saw many people selling tunes, that in the end, was a couple degrees of added timing, and maybe lower the cooling fan kick on/off points.. and charging $300 a pop. One dude in general, "Ski dwn it" was his nick, sold many a vette owner that very chip, and yet he could not under stand that he was out of injector when the duty cycle exceeded the "window" to squirt...

for sure....

while I spent a TON of money, first on chips..then matched those funds when I got the stuff to do it myself.. I still to this day, would spend that money in a heartbeat

usually high dollar mods, the "coolness" wears off..and you regret spending that money.. but in this case.. I'd spend it all over again..even looking back in hindsight.

the "new" just doesnt wear off.

Same thing applies here.

there are many sct dealers that simply "apply a canned sct value file" to a base tune file..then go change the fan temps..and maybe a WOT shift point and call it a "custom file".

which is the primary reason I got into tuning my own stuff... to have FULL control, and not be at the mercy of a third party.

If I wanted a 7200RPM WOT 1-2 I didn't have to worry that some "third party" would actually DO what I wanted to happen (7200 shift point is just an example)

Is SCT the only game in town for my 96?

I need to check with Craig Moates and see what he might have available, or at least put a bug in his ear..

I've known Craig since his first offering, an adapter with a quick release EEPROM socket.. He still uses a ECM bench I designed for the OBD1 GM ECMs...

SCT is generally the best supported platform for an OBD2 Ford.

BUT.. if you have a good relationship with Craig moates.. you POSSIBLY could do "as good" with the Moates stuff.

Driller was going to go the moates route, but got tired of waiting for support so he jumped into the SCT pool.

IF the moates stuff was around...and supported the mark 8 platform.. I would have gone with moates.

But..the SCT stuff serves my obd2 car just fine.

Well, I decided to call Dennis today just out of curiousity because he told me that the chip would be here before the weekend (last weekend) I called him this morning around 11ish and he remembered my order and told me something about SCT took an extended holiday vacation(for mothers day?). But he told me to call him back after lunch as he was in a car on the dyno and he said he would have a tracking number for me, just to call back after lunch to get it. So I say no problem, sorry to bug you and he says no, "thank you for your business", and he repeated, no problem just call me after lunch. So, about 1pm, I call him back and say hey, you told me to give you a call back. He said "no I didnt, I told you I would send your chip as soon as I got more blanks from SCT which I did, I havent even shipped it yet", so I said "sorry, my fault... blah blah blah" I was quick, I understand needing to get info quick and get off the phone. I was polite and answered his questions quickly and consicely. I got off the phone pissed because I felt like I was talked down to, I spent the rest of the work day pissed because of the phone call. I didnt want to bother the guy, I'm not trying to rush him, I only checked back with him after the time frame he told me to expect the chip had passed. Just pissed me off, just needed to vent. I'm still going to give Dennis the benefit of the doubt, I just didn't appreciate his tone on the phone.

You guys know how it is, you are told an expensive toy for your car is going to be there on say wednesday, and it doesnt show. You're kinda bummed, but like whatever, its coming. 7 Days go by... Just kinda wanting to know the status...

dawm sounds like a true a hole to me. here i thought you had it all ready and was having fun. i was ck on the up dates and you are on the waitting game that sucks i hope the wait is worse it lol.

It would be nice if he emailed me the tracking number. But I won't hold my breath... So again I will be wondering if it shipped until friday.

Honestly, coming from you Geno, I figured that was your show of confidence coming from a fellow m8 parts vendor. I am not going to say Dennis is a bad guy or anything, I just feel like I am on the same intelligence level and I don't deserve to be talked down to. I was ready to buy a LMS chip a few months back but we weren't able to make that work due to something with SCT that was none of Geno's fault. I contacted Lonnie at BOC and it took him about a week to answer my first email, Dennis just answered me first so I went with him. I have heard some negative, but it seems that the majority was positive. Now, granted I went over to markviii.org in the vendor area, and I got the impression that dummy calvin removed any posts that trash talked a sponsoring vendor. Either way, I'm sure the chip will show, and I'm sure it will work out great, just frustrated I guess with online purchases lately, still havent gotten my HIDs from DDM that I ordered over 1 month ago... :(

he also talked me into buying a 3.5" driveshaft instead of a 4" and I'm regreting that because my car vibrates very bad on the highway but it did before I put the gears in so I don't know

that is kinda how i read genos comment too...and though it sounded odd.

hang in there dan..

Who's story?

KustomizingKid...
year or so ago, I suggested Reinhart to him.
same kind of thing happened

dennis used to heavily support the m8 crowd, his attention of late seems to be distracted by the marauder folks, which IS understandable.

money talks..hes selling, installing blowers, & tuning cars whos owners have very deep pockets.

he can tell one of those guys, you need, this, this, and this, and they BUY IT NOW, which turns a 400 dollar tune, into 1500.00 in sales.

now look at "a chip sale", to an extinct market...VS. A CROWD of marauder guys waving of dollars at you.

which is one of the key reasons I got the software and hardware to do it myself.

Dan, your a sharp guy..with experience in the industry.
you might consider jumping into tuning your own car.

your initial experience is much like mine was..i never could find the right combination of "tune, and tuner"

now if this chip doest live ABSOLUTELY up to your expectations, your "really not gonna be happy"

...sucks

How many Mauraders are there vs M8s?

Anyway, sorry about your frustration, and I again stand by my original post...

Maybe I should look into a MS III conversion for the M8s....
