Rebirth of the Blue Flame

What RPM's are you shifting at with your new powerband?

Started with the 1-2 commanded at 6000 and the 2-3 commanded at 6200. Stepped up the shift points with each position of the 4-way chip. 2nd tune was 6200/6300, 3rd tune was 6300/6400 and finally 6500/6600 for the 4th position. Timing started at +2 global, the +2.5, +3 and +4 degrees global.

I suspect either the shift points were too high or there was too much timing on the 4th run, or both.

It's a B headed modular engine you have to shift that bad boy high specially now I'm sure you power-band just moved up higher in rpms.Did you have it on the dyno after H/C upgrade? My brother shifts his 98 at 7500+ on stock heads and cams.My buddy has N/A 96 Cobra with few bolt-ons ,he improved his times by a lot when went from 6500 shift points to 7700.

Come on John don't be a sissy and shift that bad boy like it supposed to be shifted :D :D

No time for the dyno yet. The A/F was road tested on the safe side.

Hey, we had to start somewhere, LOL. :D

I'm not concerned about the valvetrain. But we're still spinning the stock internals. What's the rpm limit on a non-forged crank and rods?

The plan would be to take the timing and shift points of the 3rd run and start tweaking the tune from there at the track. Hold the timing and jackup the shift points and then hold the shift points and jackup the timing. Once we find the timing she likes, go back to raising the shift points. After all that we have to work on the TC lockup and then finally tweak the A/F on the dyno.

After all, half the fun is the journey getting there. ;)

Shift at least at 7000rpm JP, I would say 8000rpm if you had a forged short block...

We're not far off then, the rev limiter was set for 7K. With the 3800 stall 9" converter and it still building power, there's gonna be a few hundred rpm lag from commanded to actual shifts. I know it was getting close to 7K on the shifts when I would remember to look at the tach. I don't *think* it hit the rev limiter but only the last run should've been close to it.

No doubt the powerband is higher, as you can definitely tell it at the big end of the track.

When it's time for a built bottom end, the sky will be the limit. ;)

go stright and quick jp. keep and eye on the rear sup. more tourqe more stress. have fun. are you going to put a cage in. jd

i'm gonna go kiss my Marks just because of this

Huh??? LOL

JD! How have you been? :D

The rear end is all braced up and I have new bushings in the works. I have spare half-shafts just in case. I really don't think I need to worry about a cage anytime soon. LOL

I don't think you should be worried about rear suspension with your power level .Mike is pulling low 1.5s with best of 1.51 on bone stock 94K mile rear except Cobra shocks [no braces, bushings never been changed either] .

just curious who did you talk to at Fox Lake?... I know a guy that works there that is my 4.6 DOHC guru and his dad is a pushrod guru...
