Rear Window

I'm doing it only to shave my gen one antenna hole, I don’t really listen to the radio but I will be hooking the gen II antenna system up for occasional radio use. I just want her to have clean, smooth body and I want my car to look pretty too! :D

This same thing was done on someones car on here. Turned out pretty good but finding pics might be a chore. I have one but it also includes filling in the gas door and moving the filler neck behind the tail light so that it swings open to fill the tank. The antenna was also being deleted too.

Antenna in the glass is the way to go.

If you live in BFE like I do, I can't hardly get a station with a universal antenna. The ones I find work the best are the powered telescoping like come in Gen1 cars. The reason I know this is the power antenna quit on my TBird and I put in one of those universal ones you buy at the part stores and it sucks.

The in-glass antenna's suck even worse unless you live in the city.

Huh, never pulled that cover before and didnt notice it when Sapper pulled his. Cool, thanks. Learn something new every day. :)

yesterday my antennae stopped going down period...I can hear the little motor trying, but no deal...what up?

Common issue, at least from my experience. Stripped gears, I believe (or something inside the unit isn't getting traction, at least). I had this happen on my black '93 and replaced it with a good working antenna from one of my parts cars, but it eventually happened again. At one time, there was a kit on E-Bay to supposedly fix that issue, but I never tried it, so I can't say whether it worked or not or what was involved with it.

Its a toothed plastic strip that breaks. Years of winding and unwinding. I have rebuilt a couple GM ones with the new strip kit but never tried a Ford one. Shouldnt be any different.

AZ sells a new mast for around $18 to $20 and all you have to do is have the stereo on and then get your new one started down the hole and make sure it's facing the gear inside and push it in a little and then turn the stereo off so that it will retract it back down. Tighten up the hole nut and whatever else came with it and it should be a done deal. Takes about 10 min tops and helps if someone is inside, unless you have a remote control head unit.

After years of going up and down, the Teflon teeth wear out and it will either not come up all the way or not retract back down. A new one should be good for around 10 years with normal use.

yep its easy, I helped a buddy of mine replace his in his lexus ls400, all ya do is unscrew that little "O" nut, turn radio on, while pulling up on the antenna till it comes all the way out along with the plastic teeth. Feed new one into the hole in the same direction as the old one came out while turning radio off to retract the new antenna mast and teeth back down into the motor. Put "O" nut back on and done.

plastic

I've changed 2 of them on my 95. If the plastic broke in little pieces near the bottom, your going to have to open the motor and remove them Easy job. Buy the best mast and it will last. The cheap one lasted 3 months the good one still working 3 years

Interesting. That recalls the fuel filler neck on the '55-'57 Continental Mark II:) On that car, the filler neck was located behind the d/s tail light. Now just make the exhaust exit through holes cut in the rear bumper and you'd have another homage to the granddaddy of all Marks:D

And on topic, the rear window is interchangeable as far as I know. I like the window mounted antenna. Works fine for me but I don't use the radio very often. I'm either watching/listending to Star Trek movies or Captain America or Forbidden Planet or something like that on DVD or listening to Pandora through my phone. I have been experimenting with different types of music and have become fond of Ellie Goulding, Lily Allen, and Kimbra. Call me crazy. But I must be mellowing in my old age...:D
