Will the rear window from a 97 or 98 fit a 95?
Don't use the rear glass antenna.. use your stock Gen1 antenna. The glass antenna sucks
I have heard that before but didn't know how true it was. The radio sucks period lol. I never ever listen to mine. It's been 2 years since my antenna has had the chance to completely extend. I never give it time. I only use an iPod Touch that's hidden in the console or Pandora through BT through the phone. I don't even use CD's either.
Terry and I have the same head unit, it does not extend if you never allow it to use the tuner. While on blue tooth or USB, the antenna stays down.
But antenna's are ugly on cars....aircraft, not so much.
Your post makes me nod and shake my head at the same time. Makes my neck hurt.So let me get this straight. You spend all that money on a sound system then feed it from an ipod?
My home system never plays compressed sound because it sounds bad. A CD is a compromise for me. Straight up vinyl makes the CDs sound tacky and I have trouble understanding why you would feed a nice system with an MP3 for the source.
Perhaps all that matters is the slam and MP3s are adequate for that.
Here I am contemplating putting quite nice wire from the CD player to the head unit and then to the amp just to make the source path golden.

Yeah, AAC is much better. Larger but better. Still a little compressed though. Studio quality in the car is what I am after. I have a little project for the truck this month. Already redid the sub and am about to put something quite special up front. Problem is that the components I am about to use will REALLY show how much MP3 sucks and I am gonna have to switch to full loads on my USB drive. When I get in the car, I know I'm not stepping into "the studio". The sound isn't bad at all. CD's do sound better but not by much. I mean after all, it's only a car but I can say that mine sounds better than any factory Mark VIII system, by a long shot. Then, there is always Pandora, (not mp3) and it sounds excellent. For what I have invested, I have no complaints at all. I might spend and hour to two hours per month inside my car. Many times, the head unit remains on "stand by" just to answer the phone for me. All of my audio is in AAC format and not mp3. AAC has a better sound quality that mp3 does.

Yes, MP3 is compressed music. I can hear HUGE differences between a real CD and a CD with MP3 tracks burned to it. It is compressed data after all.
Now to say a CD is a compromise over vinyl? Yikes. A record needle cannot vibrate at the freequencies a CD can recreate. Records have an inherant high THD because of the limitations of the needle movement. Use the same recording studio and have it burn a disc while scratching an album and you will hear nuances in the CD that the album just can not recreate.
Albums have pops and clicks and a steady whoosh sound that some associate with warm sound quality but its all distortion.
I have heard Dark side of the Moon on album and remastered CD on a system using Infinity IRS V Beta speakers ($62,000), four Carver Silver Seven amps, all NAD and Audio Conrtol components and some rediculous $6000 glass turn table.
The CD made you feel as if you were in the room with them as they recorded where as the album didnt have the sharp attack on the highs or the tight lower freequencies the CD made.
And I am talking the little things that bring music to life. Hearing the pick strike the string before it vibrates, the singer taking a breath away from the mike, a drum stick sliding off the edge of a snare drum etc etc.
Well we'll try to keep this short. I have about $10,000 worth of audio gear sitting around here, my stereo. I don't much like Carver but the silver sevens are OK. I like my Sonic Frontiers Monoblocks quite a bit better although they were quite a bit cheaper than the SSs. I have a Sonic Frontiers Signiture Preamp which has been factory tweaked. I used to know the Chris's at Sonic Frontiers.
Some facts. A CD can do 44,100 samples per second and is cut off at 20,000 Hz. Almost any of my nice records will put out an analog waveform that will happily do well over 100,000 Hz. My system will pass that to the tweeters unharmed.
Now although one cannot hear frequency over say 20,000 Hz for a young man one can hear the lack of overtones which should be resonating about that frequency. It basically makes the music sound ... not real.
I have Zappa's "Man From Utopia" as a CD, A digitally remastered record and the original analog record. Guess which sounds best, yup the analog record.
My test is ... tell me how many rivets are in that cymbal.
You should understand I have been over this ground many times.
Who cares? I mean really, the guy asked about a rear window.
I consider myself an audiophile and have been in the industry for 20+ years, mp3 is fine for the car and most can't tell the difference at home... But that wasn't the question.
If you go to the gen 2 rear window make sure you get the anteena amplifier as well, it will suck less. It's on top of the rear deck behind the third breaklight when you remove the package tray.
Well, I sure didn't know they were the same! My Gen 2s trim, is better then my Gen 1s. I'll fix it one day possibly.
Minor point of interest, just confirming, but I thought the package tray, was the inner sheet metal structure, in the trunk?Sorry for nitpicking, I am just curious, and like to learn new things!

It is but the antenna amplifier he is talking about is actually under the carpet right behind the high mount brake light. So you have to remove it from inside the car by removing the back seat and such.
Personally I like just lisiting to the music my engine makes at WOT.![]()
If the window is out, there should be easy access to all of that stuff without removing the seat. Question is, does the antenna amplifier connect to a Gen 1? Gen 1's didn't come with one because they weren't needed. I'm sure it can be hooked up but not in the same place as the Gen 2...
Wait, Gen 2s have antenna amplifiers? I had no idea. Ima gonna go rip up Sappers trunk.
