Well I live in Florida but was on a trip to New York and got a speeding ticket in Maryland for 83 in a 65 MPH zone. Well I have heard that if you get a ticket in another state, florida or your insurance company would not know or something. I wanna know if I should take their traffic school or not???? What is the difference between getting a ticket in state or in another state?

More than likely everyone involved will find out sooner rather than later. Some can fall through the cracks though. Traffic school may determine the verdict (guilty, not guilty) and therefore may/may not show up on record. Don't know about the other part

Maryland is a beotch! I lived there a year. That and New York are like a complete police state! In my experience although times could have changed, tickets from other states did not effect my drivers insurance, nor did it effect my state license. The only case where this differs is if the states work together like Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania work together.

You should be fine. I live in pa and got one in NY last year and my insurance company never found out. I was doing 74 in a 55.... Oddly slow for 3 lane highway.

It all depends on the court, Maryland can be a pain in the %$#'s! All or I should say most of the state's are communicating with one another if Maryland's court enters you ticket into the national database your insurance will find out about it when they pull your yearly record, if you have had insurance with your present company for a long time with no tickets or accidents they may not bother pulling your record yearly anymore, if your lucky.

a friend of mine just got a ticket in NC and he lives here in florida. by the time he got home, he was already getting the traffic school and lawyer ads in the mail.

I got a ticket in Virginia and let me tell you it went to TX DPS and was on my permanent record. This was back in the early 90's, so what do you think todays environment is?
Yup, things have changed allot. In 1991 I recieved a bunch of tickets in Texas the day before I moved to Maui. Back then they didnt transfer cause the cop was cool as hell and we talked for an hour. I was pulled over for doing 80 in a 55 on a bike and I didnt have a motorcyle license.
I told the cop I was moving the next day and he got excited and asked if he could write more tickets cause he was short on his quota and only had a few hours left. I was shocked they actually do have quotas and let him have at it.
I wont mention his name but we were good friends for a bit after that and when I came back to Houston a few years latter to do a week of PC school I crashed at his place. Man could his wife cook!
Anyway, back then they never followed me to Hawaii and when I moved back here a couple years ago they were not on my record.
I am sure things re different now though.

Being a truck driver I have amassed tickets in 5 or 6 different states.....it is different due to the CDL, but the ones I didn't do traffic school for came back and got me......traffic school for CDL holders is no longer allowed, but it has actually worked out better......the courts are more likely to change the tickets now.........TO NON-MOVING SAFETY TICKETS........it is all about MONEY
I know I have to pay it and I "did the crime", I just wanted to know what the difference was for in state and out of state tickets.

Almost all states are in what is called the drivers license compact (DLC) which means they share records between states. My wife just got an 83 in a 65 following me back in Ohio, we are getting a lawyer because of the chance at 4 points here.
