People that want to do a gen 1 COP swap.

I almost made one like that for the Mark I had when I did the swap. Until I realized that the COP covers have an opening on the back side, not the front. And there would have just been too much cable running around front to back.

Seems like a good solution, but its pretty easy to swap over the first place and properly solder the connections. More work goes into just finding the cop connectors.

Just my 2 cents.

Cleaner engine bay. And no longer a need to worry about coil packs and ignition wires. Not sure if there are any real gains in the HP area, would be odd but then the spark is better controlled.

Or you could just buy a Gen2..and toss a Gen1 nose on it...that's what i did

Is it more reliable, as I've seen far more problems with the cop system than on the older one (the boots mainly, coils not really on either)?...
I can see it cleaning up the bay a tiny bit though and possibly the idle as mentioned, cool to see someone making a kit :)

I could see it helping with blowout on a heavily boosted application, but most of the appeal is that it looks much cleaner.

Also, thanks for posting that today, because I spent like 15 minutes finding that thread again yesterday. :p

The heavily boosted are running other systems /and or with Marine engine coils. I was told to stay with my coil packs by my builder as under 18 Lbs of boost they were more than capable, and that COP could present more of a set of problems due to their design.

I do agree though the looks are much better with a cleaner engine bay, and definitely having a plug and play is a great adder. The picture below shows how Ford ran extra long plug wires for the cross over for this display that is in the Romeo engine plant,

The only problem i've ever had was when I washed my engine. 1 or 2 of them started misfiring due to the water getting down there.. All were original @ 130~k. Bought a used lower mileage set of 8 for 50 bucks, replaced 2 and have 6 for spares if I ever need them.

That being said, If I had a g1 i'd prob keep it the way it was. That's unless you have a engine worth showing off.

I've had to replace COP coils, I've never had to replace a Gen 1 coil pack.

I am one of the few that actually like the Gen 1 engine cover, so I personally would never do this swap anyway.

With 4 Mark VIII's, I have more than enough to do with my time and money anyway.:D

Most heavily boosted apps I've seen are running the stock Ford COP system unless they're running a standalone EMS... But I have too many stock coil packs and a couple MSD packs that came on my car, so I doubt I'd bother swapping to COPs myself...

Anyone know where I can find the male coil pack connectors?? I cant seem to find them. Very oddball connector

I found them on my old engine. They weren't really that hard to find, they're right there on top...

:p

That is the engine that is in the supermark.

That is the engine that is in the supermark.

It's in Romeo Engine, and the drawing illustrates an Inter-Cooler. I did not have enough time oogling it as I was there for a personal tour of the "Niche Line" when they were putting together the engines for the GT that is no longer made. Hopefully I will be getting another chance to get there again, and I will spend more time on it. As everyone knows those were very special setups that were put together with SVT, which is why the Super Mark is so unique. I don't remember it being inter-cooled either.
