Oil filter adapter gasket

this is 94m5 dad you can try andold trick and dipple the sealing area for the gasket and use a light coat of sealent to hold it in place so it dosen't move when you reinstall the housing. jd

i have 10 lifts, and 2 15hp air compressors for the entire building, i do part time work in a "Foreign Car Clinic" we primarily work on BMW, Benz, VWs, Range Rovers ect ect, i have 2 large Snap-On tool boxes and ALL my tools stay VERY organized, air wratchets and impact guns are your friend

also ive never seen one of these get so bad as to where the oil and coolant were mixing from THAT gasket, im not saying its not possible, ive just never seen it

Well, it took me 4 hours believe it or not and I had a lift, snap on tools, air compressors and a heated garage. If I hadn't had another engine to look at I would have never got it loose. I put some gasket sealant on one of the bolts and then slid the gasket over it and got one bolt started and did the same for the rest and game over. If anyone can do it in 25 minutes you are the man.

I just think some of these guys don't know how to tell time. Took me 20 minutes to get the adapter clean to my liking and cleaning off the block. I still don't believe anybody can do it in 20-25 minutes not counting anything else. Sorry, but I'm still calling BS. A friend told me Ford gives 2 hrs labor for this job so all you guys that can do it in 20 minutes, ya'll are missing your calling. Go show those factory techs how its done.

if it calls for 2 hours, that what you get charged, that doesnt mean thats how long it actually takes, if it takes you that much time or longer, then youre losing money, when its done faster you make more money in the time granted,
lift the vehicle, drain both coolant and oil at the same time (use 2 extendable drip pans), while thats draining remove left front tire...then refer to your All Data or the like shop manual for the rest of your step by step instructions

ok first off i have been a mark VIII ONLY mechanic for 11 years, this means i can work on many cars, but i specifically work on mark VIII's and i'm telling everyone on here reguardless of what has been said, there is absolutely no way in hell that adapter can be pulled off and the gasket replaced in 20 minutes. if the car was on a lift, the coolant was already drained, and all you had left to do was unbolt the 4 bolts sure, but from start to finish, meaning pulling a car in, putting on a lift, draining coolant, taking things out, replacing gasket, putting it back together, lowering it down, filling back up with coolant, burping the car, changing the oil, road testing, rechecking to make sure everything is all good, give me a break 20 minutes?????? cant blow smoke like that up my ass sorry!! not happening. there is a difference between start to finish time, and just the actual removal of the part time. there is nothing wrong with a little exaggeration but come on lmao

Wow ... this is a thread from Dec. of 2008 brought back in May 2009 after Thaywood must have searched to find a thread on oil filter adapters replacement

I just replaced my oil filter adapter gasket last Friday. Took me about 2 hours. Getting the old one out was not that big a deal. The one bolt in the upper right was a serious PITA to get out. But the rest were easy. The gasket just fell out along with about 2 gallons of antifreeze. Getting the new gasket in was a little bit more difficult. It took several tries before I got the thing in the right position so I could put the bolts back in. There just isn't enough room in there to get two hands in. And you really need two hands. But it worked and now I don't have that annoying leak and the thing doesn't smell like burning oil anymore. Yay for me!

yup its dead, were selling used econo box crap, cant keep any used 4 cyl pos on the lot. but ford has plenty of stupid stuff, like our "funk master flex expedition" ugly as hell and expensive!! i think its been on the lot for over a year........oh and our bullet mustang ;)

And ended by cadillackman that same day

Aren't there 2 different gaskets out there? I thought I heard somewhere that 1 was crap & 1 was good, 2 different colors? Maybe it was some other gasket.

Then warlock must have needed to work on his and did a nice search ...

love the wheels cadman! checking this thread out because mine is doing it's own oil change too! dang i hate working on cars, but then again, why do i do it for a living? lol

But who the hell starts the rest of this $hit LOL on a old thread .. LOL ...

ok, im hearing all this non-sence about how hard a bolt is to get to, have ANY of you people ever heard of Gear Wrench, sheesh, i had mine apart and back together in 15 minutes
ill keep ya posted on how long it takes me to replace the sub frame next week
and an oil leak would only lead to engine rattling if it was never replaced ! keep your engine topped off and youll be ok, itll be more expensive buyin a quart or 2 of oil every week or 2, but as long as theres oil to lube, there shouldnt be a problem
my front main has been leaking for 7 months, and its not getting replaced until i find a subframe, and im replacing that because my dad ran over a man hole cover as the city of houston was stripping the road up to repave it and the lid was higher than the road surface (SMACK)
then im gonna replace the STOCK plugs and fuel filter in the ol 93
