Oil filter adapter gasket

i bought the gasket too how hard is it to get the bolts off? i tryed but i cant get the car hight enough....pm me directions

I honestly don't see the difficulty of changing the oil adapter gasket. It is a very easy straight forward job. drain radiator, remove wheel, remove oil filter, You can access the bolts through the holes in the frame, remove old gasket & install new one, then tighten stuff back up! You should be able to do this in an hour your first time around. You will need some misc. extensions & a swivel. I would like to know how much the dealer charges for this job? I've done a few for people & I charge $75 bucks + parts.

well i did mine in a couple of hours my first time but i also screwed up and got on the wrongbolt and wanted to get that back together before i took the rest of the bolts out of the adapter....oh and the beer probably didnt help

Its not that its hard. Its just time consuming.I get frustrated really easy and have to step away.I revived this because mine is already leaking again. Its only been a little over a month and its doing it again!!!

Mines is leaking but Im lazy

Oil leaks and air ride leaks are not something you want to "put off" fixing.

Neither will get better over time and BOTH can lead to very very expensive repairs.

Keep being lazy and you'll have a car that wont pump up, the motor will rattle..and you'll be over here getting mad because people offer you less than 500.00 for it when you try to sell it.

like I said in that other thread.. Procrastination is not your friend in this case.

So how many things need to be wrong with your car, before you "pick up a wrench"?

your cruise work? have you had the recall done?

Ok Ok, I went to Ford / Lincoln here yesterday and they had the part and took the car right in and got it done quickly maybe 30 to 40 minutes. Didn't bug me about my rt front shock leaking or the check engine light.
Meanwhile I shopped a little, God I hate new car fever. $85,000 for a mustang????? The new Sable is very nice inside. Oh a loaded out F150 for $48,000 ranch edition?????????? Somebody is nuts for ordering a spec
$48,000 pickup truck! That I would think, would be a special order only???
Oh but what do I know, I have only been driving cars since 1960.

yup its dead, were selling used econo box crap, cant keep any used 4 cyl pos on the lot. but ford has plenty of stupid stuff, like our "funk master flex expedition" ugly as hell and expensive!! i think its been on the lot for over a year........oh and our bullet mustang ;)

I just replaced my oil filter adapter gasket last Friday. Took me about 2 hours. Getting the old one out was not that big a deal. The one bolt in the upper right was a serious PITA to get out. But the rest were easy. The gasket just fell out along with about 2 gallons of antifreeze. Getting the new gasket in was a little bit more difficult. It took several tries before I got the thing in the right position so I could put the bolts back in. There just isn't enough room in there to get two hands in. And you really need two hands. But it worked and now I don't have that annoying leak and the thing doesn't smell like burning oil anymore. Yay for me!

^ Agreed did mine the same way in 20 min, thank God for extensions.

Aren't there 2 different gaskets out there? I thought I heard somewhere that 1 was crap & 1 was good, 2 different colors? Maybe it was some other gasket.

love the wheels cadman! checking this thread out because mine is doing it's own oil change too! dang i hate working on cars, but then again, why do i do it for a living? lol

ok, im hearing all this non-sence about how hard a bolt is to get to, have ANY of you people ever heard of Gear Wrench, sheesh, i had mine apart and back together in 15 minutes
ill keep ya posted on how long it takes me to replace the sub frame next week
and an oil leak would only lead to engine rattling if it was never replaced ! keep your engine topped off and youll be ok, itll be more expensive buyin a quart or 2 of oil every week or 2, but as long as theres oil to lube, there shouldnt be a problem
my front main has been leaking for 7 months, and its not getting replaced until i find a subframe, and im replacing that because my dad ran over a man hole cover as the city of houston was stripping the road up to repave it and the lid was higher than the road surface (SMACK)
then im gonna replace the STOCK plugs and fuel filter in the ol 93

subframe is stupid easy...

and if you think neglecting an oil filter adapter gasket wont harm your engine if you "keep dumping oil in it", then you probably shouldn't be giving advice to people on this forum.

You dont realize that both coolant AND oil share that same gasket, and if it's leaking OUTSIDE the engine it's also most likely swapping fluids inside the engine as well.

ALSO the engine can have issues where it's pulling AIR into the oil system, which will destroy the oil pump gears.

ALSO on some cars, the engine wont build oil pressure because the pressure is getting blown out of the engine before the oil enters the filter due to the leak.

I've seen several issues caused by both procrastination and neglect and the flawed thought process that people THINK so long as you just keep dumping oil in it, that it's OK.

try not to pass bad information around on this board.

One person will see it and it'll become "INTERNET LAW" that you dont have to replace the gasket, just keep dumping oil in it.
all it takes is "ONE" ill thought post to cause hundreds of people (<-stupid people) to have big problems.

With that said... When is the next "rally on the valley"?

20 minutes? I gotta call BS on that one. I've done several now and there ain't no way the job can be done "Right" in 20 minutes. Did you change the oil? I know you had to refill the rad and "burp" the system. If you did all of that in 20 mins, brother you are a better man than I am.

was the car on a lift before you started???...was it on the driveway and you had to jack the car up with the factory jack or a racing jack???

alot of info is missing and if it's 20 minutes I wanna know how to do it in 20 minutes with the steps and equipments and tools that are used to complete the job in 20 minutes...
