i saw on the news they had a nearly 2 mile wide tornado if i heard tv right, and many smaller ones too, lots of damage and bad damage too, i didnt see where these hit but how is madison area? hope you guys are good.

Madison County

Six people are confirmed dead in the Harvest area, according to Madison County Sheriff Blake Dorning. One of the people who died is a young girl. Several homes were taken off their foundations on Orville Smith Road. She was in one of them. Her father was also critically hurt. Dozens more were injured in that are, as well as on Lockhart Road. Huntsville Hospital is treating approximately 50 people in the emergency room. The majority are critical, according to spokesperson Cheryl Davis.

Throughout Madison County, Huntsville Utilities crews are working to restore the feed from the TVA. Currently, that feed is out, meaning all customers are without power. Before this, main transmission feeds and sub-station feeds had already taken a hit, according to Huntsville Utilities spokesperson Bill Yell. There are also power lines down all over the county.

The Madison County EMA says this is the worst storm we've seen in several years, due to damage being all over the county and not in one specific area. Trees are reported down in several areas, one of the being Moores Mill. A viewer reports multiple trees down on Moores Mill Road, across from the Moores Mill Volunteer Fire Department. Also, trees are down and mobile homes are turned over on Schooner Lane, off Mount Lebanon Road. Flooding is reported at Highway 53 and Blake Bottom Road. Traffic lights are out in several areas, and Huntsville Utilities is working to restore power as quickly as possible. The EMA says the National Weather Service is checking to see if tornadoes hit in Monrovia and New Hope. There is also damage at Buckhorn High School, but no one was injured.

Well I just called Terry (6:30am 04/28/11) and he said that he and his son are OK. No power, storms came close and he saw a tornado travel toward RR tracks that is near his house and followed along the tracks and went right by him. Several of the areas around him have either been wiped out or are severely damaged. The utilities company is telling Terry yesterday that it looks as if the power will be restored in 5 or so days. Terry states that the area is quiet and calm right now, and the rains have stopped and no flooding where he is at. He will call me later and keep me updated for all of us.

I told him to call me if he and his son need anything and I would include everyone here at LVC as a group to see if we can help in any way possible.

Glad they're okay.

Watched the news last night and saw the tremendous devastation, holy mackerel!
 
Well Terry just text me and he said that now he was told it looks as if the power may be out for 7 days or longer. He and his son are at the house, he hooked up an inverter with a small 5" tv to it to see what is going on around him and also a little light, anything more and it blows. He has no way to salvage any food stored in fridge and does not know what he is going to do. AT&T 3G is out and has one little area in which he leaves the phone to send out a msg or two.
 
Sounds like he needs a hug, Jamie would be the man for that. :)

Well Terry just text me, he is OK and so is his son. They are running an inverter and has a lil 5" tv and light running off it. He is cooking hog dogs off the gas grille. They are saying electricity may be on Tues or Weds, no luck with help just yet.

He wanted me to let you all know thanks for the comments and prayers.

Thanks to all of you for the comments and Jamie, when you send me about $700 or more, I'll run right out and get that generator. I need to invest in moving somewhere else lol. Right now I am in the parking lot of a Super 8 Motel because they have satellite internet.

I just wanted to say that I'm ok besides the no power issue. Doing without since Wed night and it sucks in a major way. I now have a 19" LCD and I have my DirecTV receiver connected to that. I'm the only one that I know of on my entire street that has TV because most don't have satellite. They have cable and cable internet and tv for all is out. My son went around and told a few kids that I had tv working and here they come, running in wanting to watch cartoons.

I disconnected the inverter and acted like I had to charge the battery so they would move on somewhere else. Sounds mean but the last thing I need right now is a bunch of kids in and out of my house. It's annoying enough to not have power. The main thing is that my house wasn't hit but not very far from me at all, houses were completely wiped off their foundations and some foundations were taken also. Trees are down everywhere and power lines and poles are laying all over the place. It looks like a war zone.

Anyway, it's looking like Tue or Wed before I have power again and I won't be driving all the way to this other city I'm in again. I'm in Athens, AL. right now. They get their electricity from Wheeler Dam and mine comes off Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant. Grids that feed into Browns Ferry are down and some of them took a decade to get up. That's what we're facing but they are working on a temp solution to get us back up. Browns Ferry is in what they call "shutdown mode" until they get some grids back up. Next time you see me, I'll have power again. The phone situation was finally taken care of and I do have 3G back again with full signal. For two days, the phone had to stay in one certain spot jut to get one bar on EDGE network (part of at&t) but it's all working now and I'm assuming it's because of a generator.

All I need is running water, which I have and to keep my extra two batteries charged for the inverter to have tv or I would go insane. I would take a pic of my neighborhood at night but all you would see is BLACK!

Thanks again and I'll be back soon and yes I know, I'll most likely mess up my alternator by charging these batteries off the Marks alt but that's all I have right now. Might be an AZ alt but it's doing the job and if it does mess up, I'll just go get another free one. :)

Jamie, you can send that $700 by money order for the generator. You have my address..... :D I'll hold my breath on that one. I'm sure there will be many on CL in my area close to me after this is all over and I will look into getting one because I do live in a tornado area. I'm sure we have more coming before this year is out. We even have them in Jan lol.

I'm gone and see y'all within a week I guess.
 
Thanks Dan, the power was finally restored and internet and all works now. I'm assuming that Huntsville Utilities were telling officials to say we were looking at maybe Tuesday but knowing all along that it would be sooner. I'm not sure but right now, idc. I'm just glad to have power back. When you have an 8 year old and it's just you and him, it's rough. He's used to playing his X-Box 360 or PS3 online with his friends and then all of a sudden, all of that is gone.

I explained to him that the whole house, car, truck and everything we own could have been wiped out and his X-Box and PS3 could have been floating in the air and landed 5 miles away. After the 3rd night, he realized what he has and what we could have lost but didn't. In all my 42 years of living here besides the three years I lived in Alaska when I was very young, I have never seen anything like this. I was 6 years old when we were pounded in 1974 and I seen a tornado that was 1 mile wide and I still remember that till this day.I don't remember going out and seeing any devastation from all of them that came through but today, I seen some of it first hand and seeing it on TV isn't the same as seeing it right on front of you.

Trees that were 3 to 4 foot in diameter, hundreds of years old were completely pulled right up out of the ground. I saw cars that had been thrown from one side of HWY 72 over to the other side of the HWY in someone's field. I have seen houses that were $300K to $500K made of brick and wood and they were completely removed off their foundations. Some houses were raised up and thrown in whole on top of another house. Wooden sheds that hold lawn equipment were picked up and thrown into homes. Some houses were just shredded like a piece of rotten wood. A pharmacy that I used to go to was wiped out and now looks like twisted metal. There were 11 confirmed tornadoes in Alabama and 4 of those were all coming right in my direction. I was out back and seen one starting to come down slowly but luckily, these things were moving at an average of 60 to 70 mph. The one I saw was trying to come down just behind my house and it had trees going crazy.

All I can say is that I'm glad it's all over and we made it through with only a power outage. Now there all kinds of generators on CL for $400 to $600 because people don't think this will happen again but I believe they are sadly mistaken. I'll get one for cheap before they all sell because I really feel like this will come again and could be even worse. So many people think that just because it's been so many years since something of this magnitude has happened, that it will be a long time before it does again. It could be within 2 weeks but I will be more prepared next time. If I know for sure that my house will be hit, I have a man hole out back that me and my son can climb down into. It's right in my back yard and easily accessible. It goes down deep and then into tunnels. Hopefully they stay away but the way things are going with weather, I'm sure there are more to come.

Thanks Ron and Bill. I'm really glad this happened now because I learned a lot about a lot of different things.

Medium, just a 150 watt inverter and a small LCD TV can keep your sanity more than you know. If the power is out, DirecTV comes in handy too.
 
glad you got your power back on. back in 06 or 07 whatever it was when one of the hurricanes hit my coast just below us in the punta gorda-port charlotte area that knocked our sub station out near my house for almost 48 hours, not that long to go without power, but in the peak of summer when day time temps are 98 and humidity is around 100% i was melting. the first night with no power i had to sleep in our driveway in the econoline custom van we had, i had the van running with the front and rear ac on, i had the bed folded down and i layed there with the news on the tv in the overhead console, the van was moving all night from the wind it was a horrible experience so i know your pain with no power it sucks. glad its back though and glad you guys are doing good.
 
I'm glad we didn't have 98 degree temps or it would have been unreal around here. Not just for those of us without power but for those with nothing but the clothes they had on.

Check out this Mustang that was modded. Now it has to be modded again to get it out of this wreck.

NoLimit,was the 2nd from the bottom full moon BBQ in tuscaloosa?The green tables remind me of it and it was my favorite bbq place around.Glad you are doing ok.
 
Damn. That's some sh*t right there. Back in '01 or so my town had a hurricane come thru and we lost power in my small town for about a week, with the humidity here I think I spent most of my time in the neighbor's pool, but I am sure your situation was NO picnic glad you, and your son, are well.
