My Neon Goes out

Ballast is going out or you have a bad ground.

I see your parking lamps work now. :)

Maybe some sort of power surge is hitting the ballast and it's too much for it because it could be on the way out but I really don't know much about Gen 2's so I really couldn't say what it is but that would be one of my guesses. If you have an extra ballast, try swapping it with a known good one.

I cant believe it was fuses. I even jokingly said that to you.

As for the neon, when you interrupted the power and it turned off it was because it couldnt ignite the neon again. Thats cause the ballast is getting weak or the ground is bad. Turn the lights off, start the car and then turn the lights on. If the neon fires up then that just means the ballast is weak and ready to be replaced.
As for the brake lights.... check the fuse. :p
If thats not it then your brake switch is bad.

Did you just put a stereo in that car? Double check your illumination wire and make sure there are no exposed strands.
No brake lights, burned fuse for parking lights and a failing neon all at the same time points to something shorted out.

No, not that. I but connected that wire. Where is the brake switch by the way?

Well in my mark, the neon would come and go, it finally shorted out and would blow the brake light fuse, could not get it out of gear,So I just unplugged the ballast 2 years ago and it's been fine, minus the neon, but it is no a legal option to have, I just not see spending the money to make it work.

I agree, check your fuses again.

Ballast, thats what my money is on.

Same here, it can only handle the minimum voltage at this point but when it has the full 14+ volts thrown at it, it's unable to handle the surge. It won't be long and it won't even come on at all.

If it's not that, I would say the neon itself is on it's way out. One of the two can't handle the power surge.

No glitch.
not a matter of "IF" only a matter of "when".
do yourself a favor, order a replacement.

the oem ballast's days are numbered, due to how it's poorly designed, and how it's installed, and the fact the housing isn't 100% sealed up.

if you doubt it's not sealed, stick a water hose on the rear lock cylinder and watch how fast the housing literally fills up with water.

(i sure hope someone doesnt do that, because it WILL fill up)

Someone should do a write up on the problems with the Neon or Ballast. I know I need to look into my very intermittent neon show but have no idea what to look for or where to start.

I figured all those people that always "doubt" what I say, would get what's coming to them..LAO

Lol and you love to be there to see it I bet!

.."If you doubt me, fill it up with water" .. "I sure hope nobody tries that"
You may as well be dangling hot food in front of a hungry kid, while saying "don't take it, it's hot, it'll burn you!!" Lol

Glitch does, it's included with his ballast.
There are links to troubleshooting and upgrading/fixing the OEM issues.
