my 2005 ls sport vs 2008 335i....and more

If you want I can solve all your problems,(maybe add a few new ones...) The LSX is currently living in my town and for sale AGAIN,, If you want I can get him your phone number.

WOW! If i kept count right, it's the 4th time in the last 12 months that car went for sale.

anyways, Ive had my 05 ls for about a year now and have only had to replace the front brakes. It has been pretty good to me, and was my daily driver until I picked up a escalade ESV about a month ago. ive noticed taht when i start the car there is a squeaky belt, and a bubbling sound. I know that the cooling system is shyt so I should probably replace that, but wondering about the belt if anyone else had this problem? and if someone could link me a website taht ships to canada for reasonable price...

HAHAHA I have the bubbling from the cooling too. I also have the squeaky belt. Anything under 40 degrees and i hear a loud cranking noise until the car drops back down to idle from a cold start.

I also had that belt snap on me when i first got the car. Bought her with 37k she has about 46k now a year later. (November 2011)

As far as the bubbling sound, I think it has to do with the heating system for the windshield wipers. At one point i did alot of research about it but I'm almost positive that's where it is coming from. There is some component that keeps the windshield wipers heated so that they can do their job and not get stuck in place. You cannot lift them off the windshield when it snows heavily like you can in most cars so it is only logical they added this feature. In the summertime (I live in NY) it's warmer so these things really do not happen at all. It's only when it's cold.

Let me know your thoughts guys. I'll keep an eye on this thread.

The heated wiper park is just some heated elements at the bottom of the windshield. They are electric and there is absolutely no fluid involved. They automatically energize at ~40º.

Two things,

1) I love My LS, I drive it the way I want and it's plenty fast enough for me, there is a custom tune to be installed this upcoming spring, which I already have. I don't expect a 13 sec. LS, I just enjoy what I got and make my best attempts to keep it running smooth without going over board. If I wanted a faster car, I would have bought something different.

2) this guys here ....

Is there anything I can do about it ?

Find the parts that are leaking, replace them, and properly bleed the system.

It can be hard to locate the leaks, and most of the plastic parts seem to fail at about the same time. For those two reasons, it would be best to replace all the known weak parts now and be done with it for five or six years.

If your got the $$$ and wanna make a project go for it, but like most of these guys said its not really worth it. But in the end its your car and your $$ so do what you want lol. The 2013 5.0 is a helluva car, and its not just a straight line beast anymore, this thing can move around the track and take corners. A lot of people think the new 5.0s can't take corners and really handle well but they do, there's a ton of videos and reviews on how much Ford improved everything. If you don't care for the luxury ride, wait till next spring and pick up a left over or low mileage 2013 5.0 for a little under 30k. You'll have a car with 420+ hp, (Ford said 420, but its really closer to 430-440- they underrated it), and bone stock can run low 12s. Theres a video somewhere of an automatic 5.0 vert, bone stock including the tires, ran a 12.8 in the 1/4. But that all depends on if you don't want luxury anymore. You could find some decently mileaged E 55 AMG's in the mid 20's, and maybe even an older C55 AMG. Both 4 doors and they're both rockets, couple mods and you''ll have a beast on your hands. Would be sick to see a coyote 5.0 crate motor dropped in an LS.

That's the cooling system not pressurizing correctly. You'll learn soon engigh the cooling system on this car blows.

You say just about everything blows on this car. Why keep it? Plastic parts were necessitated for many reasons; weight being a rather large one. A lot of the LS systems were designed after German ones (window regulators being one). At least we got a SALA front and not struts.

I could go on, but why? The LS is a piece of crap anyway......

The LS isn't crap but the transmission and cooling system are regardless of the design. Slow confused shifting and servo bore issues. Crap. The brake aren't too bad but not as good as they could have been.

I love how the LS looks drives and feels. That is why I own it. That is why I am addressing these issues. Cooling system has been replaced, transmission will be serviced and replaced if needed and working on a brake upgrade. No I'm not giving it up for a FWD tuxedo lincoln.

Its got tranny issues stock. However, I find the tune fixed the 'confusion' and delay on my 02. In fact, I LOVE the way it shifts, Tuned.

Oh... I re-read his post.. was it because BlackLS06 is always complaining about everything sucking, and he was just saying its crap to mock BlackLS06? .. If not then I dont get the sarcasm

It's not complaining when it's true. I've mentioned it several times but I don't always complain about it. And I'm not driving something else and bashing the LS all day.

Totally sarcastic. I just get tired of all the "experts" complaining about the design/execution of the machine which is the LS. Why not complain about the crash-worthiness? The car could be made much, much safer. Couldn't afford it but it would be safer! The LS, as are ALL cars, was made to a price point. EVERY car is a compromise. When the car was put into service it was designed the best it could be (as are ALL cars) within certain parameters. The transmission guy got the enviable task of trying to blow-up the transmission. Yup, he "had" to push the transmission beyond it's limits to make sure it would last Ford's requirement of 150K miles without service. Nothing like driving as fast as you can in 2nd (or 1st or 3rd) waiting for the implosion. Modifications, like bigger, heavier wheels, will take it's toll on all systems.

I learned a LOT talking with the engineers, watching the testing and watching the car actually being built. Interacting with the REAL experts.

Woah..

Ya I totally understand! The DEW 98 was the most expensive platform (aside from Ford GT) that ford had out right? Sully had told me once that the transmission in the LS was very very good, in fact its used on Mustangs. Its suppose to be a very good transmission - at least thats what im old.

As for problems, consumer reports shows the LS is a blunder with issues. Pretty well all years, including 2006. But, it is what it is I guess. If I wanted a flawless car, thats fast but very reliable and AFFORDABLE, I would but a 3.5L Nissan Altima.
But I didn't. I bought a second Gen. These cars drive so damn amazing. If they didn't break down like they do, they probably would have sold alot better, maybe still in production, and likely would not have a bad value drop. Therefore one would spend alot more to buy one... And not pick it up for 6 grand with only 70K miles like I did.

02 is not second gen. Do you have another LS and are holding out on pics?

^^

Yup. I bought a 2005 2 months ago. Ive made a few posts mentioning it.

It had around 75K miles. (Just around 130Kms). I paid $6500 for it. My guess is, I prolly would never have gotten such a deal if this car was
A) Still in production and doing well
B) In high demand.

No works been done for performance. Just that big Audio drop I did. Ill repost pics of it when im on my comp (im on my mobile)

It's not complaining when it's true. I've mentioned it several times but I don't always complain about it. And I'm not driving something else and bashing the LS all day.

The transmission programming could be better. However, I actually think that the cooling system design is very good. I can idle for hours in 100+ degree weather in the summer here and never have the engine get hot. Yes, the plastic parts fail every five or six years, but they can be replaced. Even when the system fails, the engine protects itself fairly well.

I have a 325i. Those have even more plastic parts that commonly fail every five or six years. Unlike the LS, when those fail if you don't stop before the gauge hits the red, you will be replacing the engine too.

I'm sure there's a car out there somewhere too that never has cooling system problems. Whatever it is, apparently we all thought that the LS was a better buy for what we wanted.

Joegr, I totally agree with everything your saying.

Thing is, that the LS's engine bay isn't very accommodating for the engine size. So it seems to me that heat can build up because its so crammed under the hood. Like, my 93' Honda accord had a 4 cyl engine and there was enough space in there for another 4 cyl engine!

Plastic parts fail, but thats not really Fords fault for using plastic. Its the manufacturer of the plastic pieces, and what grades of plastic are used. Stencil strength varies, and so does quality.

So Ford sends the word out "We need reservoirs for coolant".
Several companies will come in with their prices. Lowest price usually wins, and they get the job of building it. They're price could be so low for a reason, even tho they 'assure' Ford its top quality. And not just plastic, absolutely anything and everything that goes into the car. The Leather, the dashboard, the struts, the springs... All 3rd party companies place their 'bid' on what they can build for. Some of them, LIE about the quality they're supplying. Ford can only learn the hard way sometimes with these guys.

Results show when you constantly give the lowest bidder the job. What you wound up with is a car with failing components one after another.
