The transmission programming could be better. However, I actually think that the cooling system design is very good. I can idle for hours in 100+ degree weather in the summer here and never have the engine get hot. Yes, the plastic parts fail every five or six years, but they can be replaced. Even when the system fails, the engine protects itself fairly well.
I have a 325i. Those have even more plastic parts that commonly fail every five or six years. Unlike the LS, when those fail if you don't stop before the gauge hits the red, you will be replacing the engine too.
I'm sure there's a car out there somewhere too that never has cooling system problems. Whatever it is, apparently we all thought that the LS was a better buy for what we wanted.
