Mod Grocery List Item #5 - Window Tinting

That 35% looks just right! (good thing, as that's the max allowed for me in NC)

I really do think other factors come into play if you get a ticket for tint. I have been running very illegal tint on both my wife's and my cars for years, no front plate too. I have even been pulled over for speeding and been (unfortunately) in accidents in tinted cars and cops have never said a word.
Neither she nor I hot rod our cars around regularly though.
However as soon as my buddy put a 10" W7 and flowmasters in his G8 he had a tint ticket within one week of getting the tint. He got pulled over for a roll stop... They ticketed him for tint.
I just think you have to be a little cautious but if you want to get tinted I say do it!

+1 I've never been pulled over in IA or MN for dark tints on my 98 Cavalier (wasn't my idea - done by the previous owner and I think it looks like 35% all round minus the windshield).

I called a couple of local shops today, and it looks like it will be around 180 clams to have it done for me. One shop uses Vista tint, and the other uses Formula One tint. Anybody have experience with either of these types of film?

Thanks,

TRU

NYC, you're like the magic LS picture Genie (Pek won't be happy). Your pics did it for me - 35% is what I want. Now I've got to track down a local shop for an estimate.

Thanks,

TRU

You bastard! How can you not absolutely love every single mod I've done to my car! :D

I think 35% looks better too. I just didn't want to give the cops a reason to pull me over. If it were legal here, I would've went darker.

LOL, Pek! For once NYC got more pics in than you did! ;)

If my baby comes half as close to looking as good as yours, I'll be happy!

Don't worry, though - I think your status of Legendary Pic Whore is still intact!

Yeah, around 200 seems right. They wanted 25 per window and 100 for the back glass but the back was done all in one piece. I guess it's easier to do the backglass in 3 pieces and make the seam on the defrost lines... I guess it's more common than not. Thats something they don't tell you at the cut rate tint shops!

Thought that I would share some pics too.

Lincoln Luebbe, that pic of NYCs car looks way lighter than yours. I had mine measured at the DMV and it was 35%, just as NYC's looked the same.

Yours on that SUV is way darker in my opinion.

Looks nice, might be darker than 15%.

Thanks J,
I'm pretty confindent that it is. 3 separate shops as well as all online references I have been able to find seem to uphold my position. I know for a fact the only darker option was 5% and that was virtually pitch black no matter how you look into it. I know that there is 1% available in some areas supposedly. But I am not trying to jump on Lincoln Ave's toes.

AND that was with the dual moonroof shade open. The rear one is normal size but the front is like 3 X 3! When it's shut is darkens up more than that.

Mine had some raggedy 35% when I bought mine. I had 20% put on about 3-4 weeks ago.

35% is the darkest legally you can go around here on all windows.

That's scary how far you pulled up there. I'd wreck my bumper for sure.

I'll have my 06 done up here in about a week or two and I'll post some pics. After having it on my 02 I feel naked without it!!

BIG +1 I cringed when I looked at that pic. To the OP I think $180 is right for the area, but that could be because I paid that for mine. I can't remember what tint film brand they used though.

180$?

Thats damn good.

No matter where I went, in NJ, PA, lots of shops it was 240$ for all windows except the windshield.

Anybody know why it keeps telling me invalid post when I try to upload pics on here?

No idea. I upload mine to photobucket, then just copy and paste the IMG link into my post here.

I had that problem last night. I use Image Shack.

Yup mine was $180 on the dot.

280 with the windshield... so I said eff that

Just make sure they use a metal film, anything but a dye and you will be good to go.
