Mark VIII vs Conti.....really ?

contis are a little heavier than mark 8's, have 260hp, and i think 3.7X gears( not sure its actually a 3.73,maybe)

Man that video is old, it seems just like yesterday I was racing my mom there... lol. I did have a better R/T then her I think, and was able to beat the conti. Back then my IMRC were stuck on the Mark VIII (makes a HUGE difference), could have beat the conti by much more than that.

The 99 and up Conti's have 275 HP vs the older ones which only had 260 HP. So the newer ones might be able to run with the Mark VIII but I don't think it would beat one... IMHO. Also Mark VIIIs are a little harder to launch then the Conti, so maybe that's why he lost (seemed like his R/T wasn't as good as the other driver either).

In all honesty, stay away from the Conti. It has taken a lot of money to get that car to 226K (bought with 72K). While my Mark VIII had few problems here and there but still solid (160K now, bought with 59K). And I gave my car hell every time I drove it while my dad drove the Conti like a granny. KEEP THE 97 UltimateSVT!!!

That pretty much sums it up in my experience. It was pretty even when I raced an 02 Conti back in my stock Mark8. The Contis will generally launch better.

Because you also started out with the wrong Mark. :D

Hind sight is always 20/20. That's what I used to think being fed all of this opinionated information until I actually ran my Gen2 at the track and hushed all of the naysayers. ;) And remember, I am still two steps behind the fastest Gen2. I'm pretty sure its a matter of time before history will change. A 12 second all motor Gen2 will arise. ;)

Wait wait wait, who is up ahead of you in the Gen 2 world? :shifty: Think hard now and btw, this is all in fun. Never take me for being serious or a smartass because I never mean anything that way at anyone. If so, I'll let it be known. Ok now, who is ahead of you?

1. Doug
2. Mike Shultz and Doug is behind him.
3. Burbank and I believe Mike is behind him. Seems like I'm missin a couple...

Yeah, now I know who you're talking about but really, can a Conti seriously outrun a Mark? I know the stock Mark isn't going to run off and leave it like it's standing still but damn, it should do better than that. Let me guess..... his traction assist button was probably on and bogged it down for the Conti to take the win.

Isn't that what Mike did wrong with THEMARK during this televised run?

I was referring to the fastest all motor Gen2 and that would be Doug and only Doug. The gap between us is almost 4 tenths and that is pretty substantial. I'm certain I can shorten the gap with tuning and a couple of other things, but I'll likely never catch him. With a trap speed of almost 105mph I think he is capable of a high 12 with mineshaft air. That has never been done on any all motor Mark8 whether Gen1 or Gen2. The dyno numbers hint to that. If you have seen his dyno thread, he put over 300rwhp down. He's at about 360hp at the crank which is a whopping 70hp over stock with holeshot mods. If he hits 12s, I will be impressed because at that point he is entering power-adder territory on his car in terms of 1/4 mile time with the kicker being he is still all motor.

He accidentally left the traction control on. When that was televised, I'm pretty sure at the time his car was running a very low 12 or high 11.

"when it turns green, as soon as it turns green!"

"and remember, dont wait on me"

these are my cars.. and i said that because my friend isnt exactly a fast driver. and he would hesitate ( as seen in other video.) 0-30 ish the conti IS faster. the mark has the advantage because it can go longer before it has to shift. and the shifting itself is better in the mark.

wow i didnt know this would turn into a whole 2 page thread. i was just defending the conti.

and just saying, i bought the conti at 80K it has close to 150k now and ive only done the power steering lines and waterpump. car has been rock solid. and you all can see how its been driven.

people underestimate the continental. they think just because its a FWD more de-tuned 4.6 that weighs more, its gonna be slow and that just isnt the case. im willing to bet if i dyno tune the conti it would be just as fast if not faster than a 98 LSC

Ok, now I gotchya. All motor and Gen 2. I don't even believe Mike has a 4.6 anyway but as I don't really get into engine modding, that's one of those things that I wouldn't care to read about but it seems like he has something other than a Mark VIII engine. Some kind of stroker motor or something and as for Burbank, I don't remember what he has in his but now I understand what you're saying.

All Mark VIII motor with bolt on's only. Doug is close to 12's and possibly with the perfect DA, he just might get the high 12's. Now lets say you were at the same track he was at, on the same night. What do you think the time difference would really be?

With a dyno tune and underdrives, I am going for 13.20s-13.30s. The night that I do that though is the night that he likely runs a high 12 though if I was at the same track. :p

Since you two are so close in numbers, I'd really like to see about three heads up runs with both cars but I guess the distance will likely keep that from happening. Ya never know, you might be hanging right there with him if he was on your track with your temps, same asphalt, and all that other good stuff.
