Alright, after the Rose mist Mark VIII was kinda crap, heres the next one. Seem to be in good condition, 78k miles, almost no rust (no rust on the rocker panels). The frontbumper isnt in the best condition, the grill is broken but theres a replacement included. It also needs a new front air shock on the right side and the windshield has a crack and it was parked for 6 years.

He says its a 1993 but the interior color indicates its a 1994 isnt it?

I am not sure yet where I could get a replacement windshield, any help to find a cheap one would be appreciated. The shop doesnt have to ship to Germany, the seller says he got a US address, he would ship it from there once it arrives I guess. I am not sure if the front shocks are still usable in my parts car, so links to recommended sellers of these would be nice as well. I think I've seen a couple of places over the last couple of weeks that were still selling Motorcraft ones which seem to be a good choice, not sure if there are any current offers though. The price of the front shocks and windshield will decide my final bid on the Mark VIII.
 
Here in the US this would be a $1000 car at most, especially with the blown front suspension and rust, it would need a new grille obviously and probably a bumper since that one looks pretty destroyed, and then paint. It all depends what you want it for, if you're using it as a driver just put in a new front air shock and call it a day. Otherwise I wouldn't bother with it. And BTW yes its a 94 with the saddle tan..also has the Lincoln emblems in the seatbacks which 93s lacked.
 
Well, like I said the grill is included and theres almost no rust at all. Prices are different in Germany and people are ready to pay more for a rare car, at least if its a low mileage V8 Lincoln. I only plan to replace the windshield and front shock, everything else seems to be in good condition (I probably still have to replace the tires, fluids and stuff). I have a parts car so it shouldnt be a problem to get most parts, but I need to know how much I need to spend on a windshield to know how high my bid should be at the end.

windshields are usually fairly cheap. $150-$200 on average. The shipping charge and packing a windshield well enough to get it Germany might be the killer...
 
Haha yeah, some of the stuff the seller wrote in his ad is quite interesting, you shouldn't believe everything I guess :D

The guy seems to have several cars from the states so its quite likely he orders parts all the time. He offered the buyer that he could ship the front shocks from his US address, I dont see any reason why he shouldnt do the same with that windshield. That means we could split shipping costs, and the whole replacement crap shouldnt be too expensive at the end. Still couldnt find any site thats selling a '93-96 Mark VIII windshield though.
 
If you want a nice Mark VIII from the U.S., you should have a forum member on the East Coast help you with the shipping. Choose whatever car you want, and then ship the whole car over. That way you get exactly what you want.
 
Yeah, the main problem is getting it registered here in Germany. You'd have to switch out the lights (you arent allowed to use red indicators on imports since 2008 or so) for example, its alright if the car was registered here before 2008 though. I dont want any cheap aftermarket crap on my car (or even worse, stuff from other cars) so importing it isnt an option right now. Otherwise Id get a car from the Netherlands, there are plenty of cheap Mark VIIIs there.
 
So many silly laws on cars nowadays. They should leave us alone and worry about real crime, lol.
 
Might actually do that sooner or later. Canada is more likely though.

Anyway, also tried to find some good front shocks. There are plenty of threads around so right now it seems like the Motorcraft ones on amazon are the best deal? The seller of the car says only the passenger side shock is leaking but it would make sense to replace both I guess, especially if they are both still original?

I clicked on the ad... I see the "Cobra Motor" thing is not just a US thing, the entire world uses that as a selling point on these cars!

Heh, that things 3 times as expensive as the ebay one and and the mileage is almost 30k miles higher.:D And yeah, not sure about the rear bags.

The thing is, it doesn't matter where I get the car from. If it wasnt registered in Germany with red indicators before 2008 or so, Im not gonna buy it because its too hard to make it road legal without messing things up too much. I found a '95 LSC in almost perfect condition in Chesterfield not too far from my British address (engine overheated a while ago, thats the only problem I found though). The guy wanted 2600 pounds but Im sure he would go down with that price. But I cant bring it to Germany in original condition and I cant register it in the UK because car insurance costs are insane (!!!). Thats why I try to get a German Mark VIII and this one seem to be a good deal, at least for the moment.

The auction ends in 7 hours, if any member here on the board reading this thread knows a site where I could order a windshield from, please drop a link, it'd be very appreciated. I couldnt find any sellers yet for some reason.

It's about the same in Sweden, on import cars you need to have amber turn signals.
What I do on my Mark Viii is that I have an extra set och amber tail lights that's usually on caravans and stuff (you know, these big squares ones you want to puke on) and every year for tech inspection I put those on at the tech inspections parking lot and when I'm done I just take them off right there and keep driving with red turn signals until next time I need to do tech inspection.
On my Thunderbird I don't even have that, I'm going through inspection (only done it once since it was finished though) with red tail lights. I have next tech inspection in June so we'll see what they say. They will complain about the supercharger so hopefully they wont notice that the rear turn signals are red :rolleyes:

Are you talking about windsheild for the mark viii? Then your standard glass replacing place should be able to do it. Here in Sweden they can order for any car we have (Mercury, Mustang, Thunderbird etc) so I'm sure atleast here in Sweden they can get Mark Viii glass for me. have you tried calling them? I bet they can get it fairly easy.
 
Yeah thought about just replacing them with some random amber crap before getting it through inspection, might be a way to do it. There are still extra costs for emissions testing and all these things though. License plate sizes are usually a problem too...

The problem with the windshield is, the car isnt inspected yet (its got no TUV). I will need to replace the windshield to do that. As long as its not registered, I cant insure the car so I will have to pay for the windshield, shipping and replacement all by myself. The repair place would just order it through Ford I guess, which means its gonna be very expensive. Thats why I want to order it myself, and try to save shipping costs as well. I need a place to order it from though.

Btw: Does anyone know if the canadian Mark VIIIs got better rust protection or other minor differences compared to the US cars?
 
Well, turns out some idiot kept pushing the price up, the auction ended yesterday at almost 4000$ converted. Since thats totally ridiculous I decided against it, guess its time to wait for another one again...

I'm suprised there's quite a few Mark Viii's in Sweden. There's almost always 1 out for sale in all of Sweden and sometimes up to 3 or more at a time.
I can imagine there are quite a few of these cars in Germany too ;)
 
Yeah, there are 3 or 4 for sale right now. Ones a very clean 98 LSC for 14500 Euros!!!, one that goes for about 6900 Euro which seems to be nice as well (low mileage) but it has one of those ugly "panther edition" dealer packages with landau roof and all.

Ones for sale for 4800 Euros which probably was in an accident the seller doesn't want to know anything about (bad shut lines, and filler visible), also had (?) electrical problems, so way too expensive as well.

Then theres the rose mist one I opened a thread about like a month ago which is a total beater even though the exterior was quite nice for abut 1900 Euros (needs new transmission, has rust on the rocker panels, electrical problems, leaks oil everywhere).

Theres another one for I think 3500 Euros that comes with a parts car (seller doesnt want to sell them separately and I already have 1 donor car) and then theres the last one for about 4000 Euros which seems to be the only reasonable offer right now. Not sure if its still for sale though. It was the option if I hadnt bought my champagne Mark VIII. Theres a video of it here lol:

What would it cost you to ship a car from North America? Would it not be worth it to get what you want here like a nice Florida Car and ship it?
 
Dont think so, its probably one of the 1000000s US car meetings, could be wrong tho. The current and previous owner of the car is German, I think the guy behind the wheel is the previous owner, he currently has a '89 or so Caprice.

Importing a car from the states can be quite expensive. The transport alone should be about 2000$ + I think 20% import taxes on the purchase price of the car and transport. Obviously the cheaper the car, the less taxes you have to pay. Getting the car from Bremerhaven once its there does cost a bit of money as well of course (mainly gas lol), not sure exactly what other fees youd have to pay. Then of course the whole inspection crap. As long as Im not desperate enough to buy a Mark VIII for 14500 Euros, its probably cheaper when I look for a European car.


I thought about it. I might buy that 1995 Ivory Pearl Mark VIII LSC here in the UK if I cant find another reasonable offer in Germany until April. It looked super clean and Im sure I could bring down the price from the 2600£ (about 4100$) the seller wanted for it. I can drive it back to Germany myself when Im getting down there the next time, guess Ill have to go through the inspection struggles though. Good thing is that both countries are in the EU, no taxes there. Just need to get a new taillight for it, the previous owner glued some horrible looking orange covers on it.
