My mark VIII was stolen in front of my college:rolleyes: so that got me thinking how hard is it to steal a Mark VIII? can people just pull those wires they do in movies an start them up? That would be the worest day if my car got stolen.

Its not hard to steal a Mark, but the person would have to know what to do. There are several systems. First when you lock the doors with remote or door switch and even the key its security system is armed. From that point on if the doors, trunk, hood or anything is forced open the alarm goes off and the car will not start. If they do manage to get inside they would have to break the steering lock anyway. Also, if the key cylinder is popped out the alarm will also go off.

And thats just a Gen I, Gen II has PATS (Passive Aggressive Theft System - ok, so I made up the aggressive bit). The PATS requires the right key to be in place for it to start making things even harder yet.

Pats - Passive Anti Theft System. ;)

But yea, it's fairly hard to steal one of our vehicles, so I wouldn't sweat it.

so I am guessing if they break the window, the car wouldn't go off.

Mine was stolen in April.

yea.. the alarm..doesnt make much noise when they reach under the bumper cover and yank the horn wires out.

They broke the column and drove the car away...

They tried to steal my girlfriends 94 mark 8 three weeks prior, but the broke the column up so bad the car wouldn't start.

MINE.. GONE... NP..

So.. "I" would worry about it.

IF a crackhead from La Marque Texas can steal one, it cant be that hard.
"Google La Marque Texas", you'll get my drift.

They found the car at a crackhouse in La Marque pretty much destroyed.

It felt so real, I was thinking about you how you had your Mark stolen. I mean you are helpless while some dumba$$ is ripping your baby apart.

I had a nightmare about mine yesterday too. I was buzzed driving it and got home fine. Then it showed up at a garage like the one in the dark knight movie and the whole thing was scrapped. I woke up so upset that my car was ruined then I went downstairs and saw it safely tucked in the garage.

All of these newer vehicles have some sort of special key or something to start them, right? Then how in the world do the thiefs steal them without the key? How do they bypass the starter kill? I know they easily do it but how? You would think it would be harder to do.

I would hook up a simple kill switch to the ignition or to one of the relays needed to provide power to the engine, fuel, etc. Hide the switch away out of site. This is often the very best solution. If they don't know there's a kill switch they will be stumped & probally leave it. I had a kill switch in a trans am I used to own. Someone tried to steal it, but didn't get it. Sure they busted up the steering column & stole the stereo but couldn't take the car!

IDK if its real but have you seen the movie gone in 60 seconds? when they are stealing the jag, they put in a special digital key which is reading the codes till it finds the correct one and then they start it and drive off. I am pretty sure that jag uses the same technology as lincoln, since they were owned by ford.

97-98's use the PATS key system

but my 95 that they stole is one of the "smash and grab" cars.

We used a couple of techniques to secure tiffs 94 after the fact, the easiest is to unplug the EDIS module and the car wont start.
Also you can take either the PCM or the Fuel Pump replay in the house with you.

ANYTHING you can do to make the car "not start" will give you a much better chance of having your car "not stolen"...BUT.. REST ASSURED they are gonna destroy the steering column before they "give up".

Reckon i might start taking the pump relay out, as i live far from the car.

I assume if you were to remove the PCM each time, car would have to 're learn' its settings each time you put it back in. That right?

If you pop the hood and unplug the EDIS module, (on top of the driver side shock tower) then just place the cover back over it.. Chances are they'll never find it.

Remember you only need to make it "difficult" and 9 times out of 10 they will leave your car if it wont fire up and drive away.

..
I want to open and dump a box of treble hooks in my drivers seat to give them something to "remember" this little occasion.

You can also open your door, then open the fuse panel in the door jamb, and find a fuse that will disable the car.

THEN it'd be easy to wire in a switch to turn the power on or off to that particular fuse.

For instance.. I "think" the starter soleniod fuse is in there.

Its always been habit to move the horn and wires to a hard to reach place just in case someone trys to rip out the wires before they disable it. I used to know repo guys:cool: . Kill switches in wierd places are always cool too.

yep that fuse is in there.I pulled mine and the car woulnd't start. Thats the fuse i plan on using.

In my old 1949 Ford, you couldn't start it unless the cigarette lighter was in the car.

No one would think of that!
