LS Section Suggestions?

True but very unfortunate. For those who do and come ask questions it would surely help make answering easier.

Did we lose HyeLife as our main LS Mod? He hasn't been around much lately. I see you're listed as a staff member now Rollin. Congrats :)

HyeLife is still with us.:) I just volunteered to help out in the LS section. I have been member of the community long enough. I wanted to be able give back anyway I could.

It's a tough 'want' I know....

but...

What I would love to see is a linking of common topic threads where the correct/detailed answer was given and then the 50 'sortof' correct threads spawned over the years. It stems from people trying to be helpful but often it is reposted by people who have 'not done it' or 'use it' themselves so some of the detail is re-quoted incorrectly and then it's a big 'who posted last' kinda thread.

It's tough to manage - but what the LLSOC did is move the actual tech threads into a seperate branch of the forum - so all the knowledge of the group is in a 'library'.

just a thought.

Another sub-section item. I will check with the admins. Worse thing they could say is "no". Right?:)

how about a feature that automatically bans you if you start a new thread about something that was already on the first page?

How about everyone gets to kick them in the nutz REALLY hard. If we banned every new member for asking or posting silly questions. Our community would be cut in half. I'm pretty sure I would be banned too.

Holy freaking hell, I just flipped through 938274918274321735 pages of the same thing on "zomg offset" "OMGWTFBBQ will it rub?!?!?!!" More than several of the threads were about the SAME HEIGHT, WIDTH, AND OFFSET! The best part is that 99.999% of those people got very useful insight and input from experienced members NEVER bought the rims! Are you just starting threads to show off your amazing Googlez and Ebayz interwebz ability?!
I got sooooo fed up with it, I just ordered a custom set of rims, size, offset, width, bolt pattern. That's right, just spent a bunch of money out of frustration, haha.

Answer to your question is in the "Real Official Lincoln LS Owners Guide!!!!! Basic tips and info". Off-set no higher then 60, no lower then 40. One member did manage 38. You just needed to look into the right thread.

Finding my offset and everything wasn't the issue, it was the multiple duplication of threads without the member performing a basic search. For example: 19x8 specific to the Lincoln LS subforum had about 15+ threads, some with the same offset, at least 2 with the same ebay link/wheel.

What exactly were you wanting to know? Not much I can do about multiple threads with the same info. I could delete them all. If I did that with every topic, I would never be able to leave my computer. It would be a fulltime job.

Thanks rollin, now u made me think of my old rims, that were 38mm offset :(:)

Got a response from admin about it. Most members will not fill out the area.

True but very unfortunate. For those who do and come ask questions it would surely help make answering easier.

Thanks for trying Rollin!

Wonder if they could auto populate the area to the left with the "Ride" field (or Vehicle 1) from the User CP Details (but only displayed if there were contents in it)? i.e. Use existing data from Details to the area below the Avatar. Just like the "Location:" field that is already displayed from there... People would get used to seeing it and filling it out. Also maybe move "Ride:" to the "Registration Required Information - All fields are required" section in the User CP Details, where the field "Location" is at.

Example field:

Exactly, just like the ZIP code field that you have to fill in, which in my mind is useless and even intrusive (but that's a different point altogether).

It would be cool to have a photo thread for each color LS individually as a sticky. An SVT forum I used to frequent had that and it was cool that you could see photos of a particular color without having to search through dozens of pages.

Were they group by color in the thread?

Not to sound creepy but I think a chat section would be kinda cool, like a chat room type thing.. it might filter out some of the threads like "quick I need help: where is the fuel filter located?"
People can just shoot the sh!t and give out quick answers or tips/whatever

And sorry if someone already suggested this I was too lazy to read through all this forum.

There were 4 stickies near the top of the page that said something like "The Official Black SVT photo thread" or something. There were only 4 colors offered. Maybe an official photo thread sticky that has subfolders of each individual color inside that would work better since there were more colors offered for the LS.

I would love to see an unlimited edit feature. This would tremendously help with how-to guides, especially when new information needs to added, as well as individual progress threads. vBulletin can be configured to make the "Last Edited By" line mandatory once a specific time has passed after the initial posting:

I can also offer to correct the YouTube embed code. Each video get posted twice and some unparsed HTML code shows up inbetween. I have years of web design and forum (Invision Power Board) skin coding experience, so it should be a no-brainer.

YES. I would love this to get corrected.

It also would be nice to somehow have a "picture" show up in search results. Like when doing a Google search. If somehow we could tag posted pictures with tags such as "DCCV", "degas", etc. Sometimes I want to just see a picture of something I am needing and many post have no pictures or the pictures posted may be in a post with a misleading thread title. Maybe every picture post should require 3 "meta tags" for search abilities.

Here's a thought... I just found the "Log Out" on the "Home" page (only took me 10 months)...

Can we add "Log Out" where it says Welcome, yourname... after you signon... in the upper right? (Like where they have a "Log in" button in the User Name/Password/Log in field in the upper right?)

In other words, the "Log in" button should change to "Log out" and be in the same general place once signed on.

Using other peoples computers/public or customer's/work computers etc... I always had to clear out the cookie(s) or delete browsing history etc to make sure someone else couldn't use LVC after I left with my ID still logged on.

Of course now I know it's on the Home screen, once your signed on.

(I guess this is more of a LVC site suggestion, more than a LS section suggestion).

I am a global forum Moderator on another site on the web. I help take care of 3000-4000 members a week with ages ranging from 13 all the way to 60, I know for a fact that a "shout box" did not work well for us, but because of the mature audience here it might help. We do have a shout box for higher paying members though, as they spend more and have their own private general and help section, which might be an idea for paying members here. It would give them an added benefit of being a paid member here. Also a large FAQ condensed into one sticky would help. We just did that for one of our sections, and condensed 5 years of FAQ into a few short pages. Like a what works and what doesn't sticky for Gen I and Gen II would keep a lot of the same posts from popping up everyday, i.e. performace parts, interchangabilty of parts, etc, etc. Have someone like Joegr head that up with a few other very knowledgable members here. Also a condensed DIY sticky would help. Then you would have a link to provide to new members here, and keep the hijacking of threads down as well. We have the ability to lock threads and or move threads to other sections if it has nothing to do with a certian topic, as I would believe you have those options as well. I would also suggest a downloadable full repair manual for each Gen of the LS for only the paying members. Make it downloadable from your server and not an rapidshare link, to avoid any issues, that is if your server admin can make that possible. I can go on more of a long winded reply but I'll stop here, lol.

I love the idea of an FAQ thread, but this won't work. Most new members register, and create a new thread without even looking at the site (I know I was guilty of this when I was new). You did bring up a lot of good points though. There would have to be some type of lock where you have to read a how to on internet forums before posting...

The way we do it is if there is a question that is a part of the FAQ thread, we just respond with a link. Usually they won't ask questions after that, and within 24 hours we lock the thread so it doesn't get hijacked. We still have a problem with hijackers, even though we have 12 moderators. Useless threads get trashed and any really useful ones get added to the FAQ or get their own sticky. We also have a global announcement thread to let the whole site know if there is something special is going on or there is a place to save money. I don't know how many active users there are here, but my site has about 100,000 active users, and around 175,000 registered users that aren't active. Usually we see around 1000-1500 daily online. It's tough trust me.
